Spectacular, fast and relatively cheap; the 2.0 Hot Rods offer drivers all of the thrills of hot rod racing without the large financial commitment of National Hot Rods.

2.0 Hot Rods are an incredible sight on the short ovals of the UK as the drivers rely on their skill and guile to slice and dice their way to the front in this non-contact class which can be seen across the UK from Scotland to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to the Midlands and the South of England as well as Holland! With 25 cars often on track at the same time; the 2.0 Hot Rods offer some fantastic close racing action.

2.0 Hot Rods are designed around a space-frame chassis which offers strength and safety for the drivers while being light enough not to affect performance. The majority of cars are based on small hatchbacks such as the Vauxhall Corsa and Citroen Saxo and two engine options are available to drivers including the ubiquitous 2L Pinto and the recently introduced 2L Zetec which helps to reduce the costs to drivers.

The rules for the formula are strictly controlled with the rules on chassis options, power-plants and tyres being controlled to reduce costs and maintain fairness.

Second hand cars range from £5000 to £10000 ready to race. New cars can range from £15000 to £25000 again ready to race. You can also build your own car as per the formula’s rulebook which can be accessed through the various promoters’ websites.

Race it. Unlike circuit racing, 2.0 Hot Rod racing generally sees the stars of the sport start at the rear of the grid; to win they have to make their way through a field of often over twenty cars. It is a non-contact sport and officials monitor the circuit closely and take action against those committing misdemeanours!

For 2021 onwards, the drivers will be required to log tyres on the drivers tyres website - Click Here, these tyres MUST be uploaded within 2 days of the event, otherwise the driver will not be permitted a new tyre at the next event they attend.

National Points run from World Final to World Final, and from 2021-22, the cut off being 1 month before the actual World Final date. This is to give drivers time to prepare for the World Final, and know who the qualifying drivers will be. National points are available at all domestic events throughout the year, in addition to roof grade championships (both days if applicable), as well as the Midland Championship and Ipswich Speedweekend.

Additional Comments and Rules

As discussed at the 2023 drivers meeting for the formula, the following will be implemented for the 2023 race season.

- The Scottish Championship will be contested from an out of the hat draw and the grid will be determined by two reverse grid qualifying heats. The top point scorer from the heats will be at the front of the grid for the Scottish Championship race. In order to be eligible for being gridded for the qualifying heats, drivers must have participated in at least 50% of the HRP race meetings in the season to date OR two of the three previous meetings. Any driver that has done at least 1 meeting previously in the year, but does not meet the grid criteria may be permitted to race, but MUST start at the back in ALL qualifying races. Any driver that has not raced, may be permitted to race on a full licence, from the rear of the grid in all races, at the promotors discretion.

- Any driver not booking in will be required to start from the back of the full grid for ALL races on the night.

- Grids will be pre-determined the day before the event. Drivers MUST be booked in by 12pm the day before the event - Championship meetings may vary.
