Meeting Preview

The first speed weekend of the 2025 season at HRP Lochgelly Raceway takes place over the weekend of Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2025. It promises to be an action packed weekend of racing with THREE major championships up for grabs over the weekend.

The David Philp Commercials National Hot Rods European Championship will see the top drivers from the sports premier non-contact oval racing formula take to Lochgelly Raceway as they aim to wrestle the title away from Northern Ireland’s Adam Maxwell. The formula has seen a number of new silhouettes of car take to the track over the last few years – Lotus, Ginnetta, Mazda, Fiesta – with such models moving aside the likes of the Tigra, and it’s great to see such variation on track. The Nationals will compete in qualifying heats which will determine the grid for the 2025 European Championship race, which will take place on the Saturday night under the lights. The Sunday will see the Scottish Open, Malcolm Chesher Memorial & Stephen McDiarmid race feature. A star studded line up of drivers is expected to be in attendance, with drivers participating in 2 out of 3 qualifying heats, with the grids determined on the day at the drivers briefing. Ross McWilliam has been in excellent form of late at Lochgelly Raceway and will start as one of the front runners for success - Gordon Alexander will have spent a bit of time on his car getting it prepped for this weekend as he looks to put himself in contention too. Dave Casey leads the charge from the south of Ireland. Casey has been a regular at the European Championship event and has always been there or thereabouts, and will certainly be one driver to watch this weekend. From Northern Ireland, we can expect Jeff and Ian Riordan to be battling for race wins throughout the weekend. Jeff currently leads the Northern Irish point series. Shane Murray has been a regular front runner at Lochgelly over the years too and will no doubt find himself in the mix for success once more. The English Series will have a number of high profile drivers in attendance - Series points leader Billy Wood, World Champion Robert McDonald, and Perry Cooke have all regularly found themselves qualify in the first few rows for the European Championship.

An expected 30+ Stock Rods will take to the track as they race for the 2025 Spedeworth TV British Championship. John Smith will no doubt be in attendance as he looks to defend the title he won in 2024. The Stock Rod formula has delivered some exceptional racing domestically this year, and with the formula’s top drivers from England, Scotand and Ireland expected to be with us, we anticipate a ferocious British Championship! Saturday night will see the drivers will compete in qualifying heats to determine the grid for the British Championship race, which will be held on the Sunday afternoon. Drivers from throughout the UK and Ireland are represented this weekend - World Champion and reigning British Champion John Smith leads the field as he looks to defend the title once more. Former British Champion Johnny Cardwell joins us from Northern Ireland as he looks to get his hands on the title once more, whilst Dan Shannon represents Southern Ireland. Shannon has always been quick around Lochgelly Raceway, and will no doubt be on the pace this weekend as he aims for championship glory. European Champion Robbie Armit leads the Scottish field of drivers as he looks to add another title to his roof. Sean Naismith, Dean McGill and Teri Linden have all been in good form in 2025 and will all fancy there chances on home tar.

The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars will contest their 2025 Specialist Roofing British Championship. Lee Pearce is the reigning champion and will certainly be in the mix of the action as he looks to defend his title. World Champion, Darren Rae will also be looking to take the title on home soil, whilst Scottish Champion Jamie Stewart will also fancy his chances. But with 40+ drivers on track throughout the weekend, the hard hitting, metal crunching formula will deliver some superb racing, where any driver can come out victorious!! Qualifying heats on the Saturday will see the drivers take to the track for the British Championship on the Sunday afternoon, with the top point scoring drivers starting at the front of the grid, whilst the Scottish Open will be an all comers event following the British Championship race! World Champion Darren Rae will be looking to add the British Championship to his accomplishments this weekend, whilst Lee Pearce will be looking to defend his title. European Champion Jimmy Morris will be with us as as he looks to put himself in the mix. Morris is more accustomed to racing on shale, but is a regular attendee at Lochgelly championship events. Matthew Milliken is consistently one of the front running northern Irish drivers on their travels, and he will be hoping for a good few results in the heats to put him in contention for the British Championship. Scottish Champion, Jamie Stewart has been making victory lane his own personal space at Lochgelly over the last year or so, and will certainly be in contention this weekend. With around 50 drivers in attendance though, it may not necessarily come down to who is quickest on the day!

The Classic Hot Rods race for their Chesher Memorial – a prestigious title that the drivers love to race for, and it will be the first time the classics have raced at Lochgelly this season – so it really can be anyones!

The ProStocks join in on the action on the Sunday afternoon – the nudge and spin formula have delivered some great on track action this season here at HRP Lochgelly Raceway, with grids averaging around the 20 car mark.
