April Weekend Information

April Weekend Information
The time is almost upon us for the 2022 DPC National Hot Rod European Championship weekend!

An action packed weekend of racing lies upon us with FIVE formula rammed into each day of racing, with over 30 races scheduled across the 2 days!

A strong turnout of National Hot Rods are expected – around 30 of the sports top drivers – as they attempt to muscle the European Championship title away from current champion, Shane Murray. The Northern Irish drivers were in dominant form in 2021, and the DMC drivers will be hoping for another bout of success this time around. Northern Ireland has consistently provided top quality drivers in the rod classes, and the Nationals are no different. An array of past and present champions from across the Irish sea will be with us for the weekend, including the likes of John Christie, Derek Martin, Shane Murray and Glenn Bell – amongst others! The English series drivers will likely make up the bulk of the field – Again, with a host of current and former champions heading north. Jason Kew, Billy Wood, Robert McDonald, Chris Haird et al are all expected to be with us at Lochgelly Raceway for the European Championship weekend. Gordon Alexander and John Sibbald, who have both been fairing well in the English Series, will both likely be with us as they have a ‘home’ meeting to attend! Ross McWilliam will lead the Scottish series charge having claimed the Scottish Series Championship in 2020/21. Roy Anderson, James Mooney and Marc Spence will likely all be in attendance, whilst John Maver hopes to also be on the grid.

The Classic Hot Rods are with us as they contest the Scottish Championship, and despite a difficult few months for the formula, the early signs are that car numbers are promising, with Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland all expected to be represented.

Both the Nationals and the Classics will also contest the much sought after Malcolm Chesher Memorial on the Sunday afternoon. Chesher was a legend in the sport, and we are eternally grateful from the Chesher family to continue to being able to host the event.

The Stock Rods, Ministox and 1300 Stock Cars will play a support role over the weekend, with all three formula expected to provide some excellent on track entertainment!!

The DPC National Hot Rod European Championship itself will be a 40 lap race, as per previous seasons, with the drivers permitted upto 4 new tyres for the weekend (for those participating Saturday). The drivers will be required to submit the tyre log on the Saturday which will be valid for both days. Any drivers only doing Sunday will only permitted 1 new tyre.

The Classic Hot Rods will be permitted 1 new slick and 1 new treaded tyre as per normal events – the drivers will be required to hand in the tyre log sheet on the Saturday, and it will be valid for both days.

A pre meeting parade will take place for Classic Hot Rods, Stock Rods, 1300 Stock Cars and Ministox – with only the driver being permitted on the car with the mechanic. The National Hot Rods will have a parade lap ahead of the European Championship, where the drivers will be lined up on track as the parade lap concludes.

Admission costs for the weekend are as follows, and is to be paid upon arrival (there is no pre-booking);

Saturday – Adults £20, Concessions £16 and Under 16s £10.
Sunday – Adults £15, Concessions £13 and Under 16s £9.
Under 12s GO FREE both days, when accompanied by a paying adult.

The action gets under way at 5pm on Saturday, and 12.30pm Sunday.

Practice will be available for drivers on Friday, from 12pm until 4pm at a cost of £50 per driver.
