The wait is almost over - the 2021 National Hot Rod European Championship - sponsored by DPC Commercials - will go ahead on 22nd and 23rd May. The main event will be a 40 lap challenge on the Saturday night as they nations top drivers battle it out for the chance to leave with the European Championship - currently held by Jason Kew! The Sunday afternoon will see the Nationals battle it out for the prestigious Scottish Championship and Malcolm Chesher Memorial - Currently held by Northern Irelands Adam Hylands. A host of Scottish based drivers will be looking to acquire the titles from Kew and Hylands respectively - with World Champion Robert McDonald leading the challenge, although Gordon Alexander, Ross McWilliams and John Sibbald will all be looking to put up a worthy fight. James Mooney has has improved since taking ownership of his 2021 car, and will be looking to enjoy the experience as he looks to gain some valuable track experience amongst the sports biggest names! A host of former European Champions will be with us across the 2 days, with Chris Haird, and Carl Waller-Barrett amongst the entrants in what really is a star studded line up! Northern Ireland are well represented as well, with Derek Martin and Carl Sloan amongst a handful of Ulster driver! The racing is sure to be fast, close, and will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat!!
The Classic Hot Rods will race for their 1KE Motorsport Scottish Championship on the Saturday night well, with the Malcolm Chesher Memorial being contested for on the Sunday afternoon - two titles the drivers will want to take home. A healthy field of classics is expected to reign upon Lochgelly Raceway, with several visiting drivers including Andy Stewart, Craig Boyd, and the ever present Hughie Weaver. The Scottish based drivers will be hoping to make local experience count and Kenny Purdie will undoubtedly start as one of the favourites for success across the 2 days of racing. Graeme Allister, John Campbell, Graeme Callendar and Keith Chesher are amongst the Scottish drivers hoping for a successful weekend!!
The Stock Rods will compete in a round of qualifying races on Saturday night with 2 heats and a final counting towards the make up of the grid for the inaugral Lochgelly Masters on the Sunday afternoon. to be contested for on the Sunday afternoon. A couple of tyres are also up for grabs across the weekend, with the final winner on each day taking away the rubber! Thanks go out to our tyre sponsors - Lee Smart Racing and Crane Transport. The Lochgelly Masters race will see a grid formed based on the points scored over the two days. The format for this grid is yet to be confirmed, though one possibly option is a reverse points order grid. We will confirm this before the weekend.
The Ministox will feature on both days as they continue to be an impressive formula here in Scotland. 2021 already looks to be a fiercely competitive season with several drivers all showing super pace and consistency!! Robbie Armit, Scott Allardyce, Charlie Hardie and Lewis Burgoyne will be amongst the favourites for success this weekend, however, the likes of Rachel Kidd, Jay Paterson, Bailey Millar, Demi Ritchie and Koddi Wright will never be far away and will work as hard as they can to keep the star graded drivers at bay for as long as possible! The youngsters are never shy with the bumper, and will certainly put on an epic show over the two days of racing!!!
On Sunday, the 1300 Stock Cars are added into the equation, and with over 25 cars on the grid for our season opener a few weeks ago, we are expecting much the same, or more this Sunday afternoon. The bumper brigade are no strangers when it comes to stealing the show from the headline acts, and they will be looking to do the same on Sunday! The 1300 Stock Cars are often worth the entry fee alone!!
