Van Bangers Shaun Walsh Memorial Van Bangers Shaun Walsh Memorial
The Big Van Bangers rock into town this Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway.

With over 10 BIG vans expected to be in attendance, there will be no shortage of on track carnage as some attempt to win, whilst others will be out to cause havoc on the raceway! The Shaun Walsh Memorial is up for grabs with Neil Naismith out to defend the title he won at the beginning of 2020. He will face some competition though, as the likes of Sean McConnachie – who loves a van meeting – and Lee Clarke will be out to stop him and take the glory themselves! Lee will be racing this weekend in aid of CHAS, and with a few collection points at the entry to the stadium, he’ll be hoping to raise as much money as he possibly can! The night will be finished off with a Demolition Derby – an event that often lasts a while with some of the non-destructible van bangers!!

Away from the Van Bangers, there are 4 other formula in action that will no doubt be out to entertain – the 1300 Stock Cars seen 33 cars take to the track last time out, and whilst we do not expect that amount of cars this weekend, there should be well in excess of 20 cars on track as they bumper boys set about to put on another exciting showing. Euan Mathieson has been a bit of a surprise package in 2021 as he looks to have regained his mojo and finds himself as being one of the front runners in the track championship at this early stage of the season. Fraser Clark has shown consistency coming from the back of the grid, whilst Kyle Hegg and Patrick Calderwood have all shown they have the pace to battle for race wins! Callum Sturrock and Blair Robertson both had a good meeting last time out from the white grade, and they’ll both be looking to build on that on Saturday night!

The CC Rods will have another decent turnout of cars – the non contact formula provided some exciting racing last weekend, with a few spills along the way! Kevin Hutchison swept to a hat trick of race wins last week, but will find the going a bit tougher this week as he fights his way through from the back of the grid. Raymond Brown, the current points leader, missed out last weekend, and will be looking to make his first outing from red grade this weekend, whilst Scottish Champion Brandon Gourlay looks to continue his impressive, consistent start to the season. Emma Kirk has proven to be a stern challenger for those around her on track – she holds a solid line and won’t be intimidated out of position by those challenging while showing good pace herself!

The 2.0 Hot Rods will see a number of new drivers make an outing this weekend – Ian Donaldson Snr makes an appearance in the 2.0 Hot Rod class, whilst Stewart Paterson is also expected to make an outing. Kevin Stewart will return to action in the car that he used in 2020, as he looks to take away a decent haul of points. It’s all to play for in the 2.0 class, with just one more meeting after tonight ahead of the 2021 World Final over in Northern Ireland, and with just 6 drivers qualifying, many drivers can still stake their place on the grid!!

The Junior Productions are the final formula in action this Saturday night. The youngsters have provided some scintillating racing this season already and will no doubt carry that on this weekend. Jensen Bell has been the driver to beat so far, however Jack MacLeod and Jase Walle will claim they are the ones to beat and will be looking to take away a victory or 2 on Saturday night. It won’t be plane sailing however, as a number of the lower grade drivers have stepped up over the first few meetings of the season – Declan Dixon, Lewis Dickson and Leona Anderson are just a few of the lesser experienced drivers who have made their mark in 2021 already, and will be looking to continue that form on Saturday night. Dylan Smart has been up there, or thereabouts most meetings in 2021 as well, and with a bit of luck, he should be challenging for race wins as well given the pace that he has shown so far this year.

It will be lively Saturday night – ensure you join us. First race 5pm!
