Meeting Preview
Saturday 19th October 2024 will see a DOUBLE SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP event take place at Lochgelly Raceway.
Two of the biggest domestic championships of the season are up for grabs this weekend with both the Superstox and Stock Rods battling out for the honour of wearing the Saltire for the year ahead.
The Superstox formula will see Ciaran Adams doing his utmost to retain the title that he won in 2023 and has worn with pride throughout the season. ‘Spud’ hasn’t been able to commit as much time to the car as he would have liked this year, but we are sure that the 128 pilot will have the car dialled in come Saturday and won’t let the title go without a good fight. Ciaran often excels in damp conditions, so we expect him to be doing a rain-dance ahead of the event! Aaron Riddell has been in fantastic form since the mid-season break, and will likely start as the pre-meeting favourite, however, these cars have bumpers, and we have no doubt that given Aarons form, he’ll be a driver that nobody will want to break clear, so he may find himself having to stave off a number of challenges if he wants to come away with the title. Kenny McKenzie has been consistent there or thereabouts this season, and has been actively tweaking his car over the last few months to try and find a balance that is quick and stable. Kenny has plenty of experience, and will fancy his chances of success this weekend. National Points Champion Dean Johnston has proven he has what it takes to win over the years. Consistent and never afraid to put the bumper in when required to do so, he’ll be one to watch. Deano will be hoping for a good grid draw, and if he finds himself upfront, he’ll certainly make both being caught, and overtaken difficult! Adam Low needs no introduction – possibly one of the biggest hitters in the formula here in Scotland, he also has the pace to compete. If Mr Low does find himself in the reckoning, he’s likely to strike a blow on anyone who comes in his way! Jordan Black has found himself getting quicker with each passing meeting since he acquired the ex Lee Livingston car, and will be keen to be involved in the battle to become Scottish Champion. An array of other drivers are set to be with us, Campbell Scott, Josh Duff, Benjamine Erskine and Dom Currie to name a few! This is an event that could bring plenty of fireworks on track!
The Stock Rod Scottish Championship will be defended by Gary Dean. Gary Dean has been a stalwart in the formula over the last decade or so, and has found himself come away as Scottish Champion on a number of occasions. Gary is a relatively smooth driver that often manages to avoid any incident, and will more than likely find himself in the first couple of rows come the Scottish Championship race. The Stock Rod formula is littered with talent though – Sean Naismith has been one of the quickest drivers in recent meetings and is a driver that certainly has the pace to be challenging up from. Dean McGill – he is a driver that is generally in victory lane, or has a DNF with little in between! Should everything fall into place for McGill on Saturday, he will be one to watch. Any one of the drivers booked to race are in with a chance of success giving the outright talent amongst the current crop of drivers – it’ll be hard racing, where keeping things clean in the heats will be the ultimate priority for much of the drivers to put them as far up the grid as possible come the main event later in the evening.
The CC Rods are with us for the penultimate time this season – the ‘non-contact’ formula has seen a resurgence in numbers late in the season which has been pleasing to see, though, there has also been a few issues along the way! The introductory formula has provided a great deal of entertaining racing – both for the correct reasons and for the wrong reasons at times! It is a formula that is always hard fought, with a lot of drivers capable of churning out victories – Lee Scott and Ian Christie have both done well coming from the back of the grid throughout the season, whilst aiming to overcome some emerging talent. Craig Mason has shown good form of late, though, an engine blow up last time out will have put a bit of a spanner in the works for the 703 driver. John Downs, Brooke McMullan, Ian Donaldson, Graham Pow, John Gorman and Brian Allen have all found themselves battling for the podium places recently, and many of them will be looking to be continuing that into the closing stages of the season.
The Ninja Karts are also with us for the penultimate time with just the Scottish Masters remaining in November after this weekend’s action. Rory Wilson has already claimed the track championship, and will be aiming to extend his lead in the National Points. Jayden Jeffrey has been in good form of late and has taken a couple of wins along the way, and he himself will be aiming to keep things tight at the top of the National Points chart. Alfie Shevill has had a great first season in the formula, growing in confidence and showing great pace and he will certainly be one to watch in the not too distant future. Shevill has taken a few wins across the course of the season and doesn’t look out of place in the blue grade. Rayah Burns is one of the quickest drivers on track, though often finds herself caught up or scoring a few DNF’s that has hampered her progress this season. Rayah has had a consistent few months though, and has been scoring well which has seen her move up the points chart as a result. Jamie Balfour completes his Ninja Kart career this weekend, aging out before the Scottish Masters in a couple of weeks time. The youngsters always provide nail-biting action, with quick reactions and close fast and exciting racing a thing that has become the norm in the Ninja Kart formula.
