2024 National Hot Rod Weekend Preview

Join Our Facebook Event Our April speed weekend is coming up on the 13th and 14th April 2024, and we cannot wait to extend you all a warm welcome to HRP Lochgelly Raceway!! It is a pleasure to host the 2024 David Philp Commercials National Hot Rod European Championship, where we anticipate lots of fast paced, adrenaline fuelled racing from the sports top drivers. The sports top drivers will race around the Lochgelly Raceway oval of speeds around 70mph, just inches apart. Feel the wind as the cars race passed, feel the vibrations as the engines roar. It is a spectacle not to be missed!

2023 seen a Scotsman finally get their hands on the European Championship on home soil, with Robert McDonald coming out on top. McDonald will be looking to retain that title for a further year, but with a grid packed with champions, past present and future, it will be a difficult accomplishment. Very few drivers over the years have been able to retain the title and McDonald will be hoping to join the elite few that have! World Champion Derek Martin, British Champion Adam Maxwell and an array of former champions add to an ilustrious grid of cars. The qualifying heats take place on the Saturday night, with the 35 lap race European Championship taking place on the Sunday afternoon, alongside the Scottish Open, Malcolm Chesher Memorial and Stephen McDiarmid Trophy race.

The Classic Hot Rods join us in their annual Scottish Championship weekend event as they support the National Hot Rods. Drivers from throughout Scotland and England are set to be with us including the likes of Hughie Weaver and Kenny Purdie - some of the most experienced and committed drivers to grace the ovals over the last 40 years! The Classics will also be racing for their Malcolm Chesher Memorial trophy on the Sunday afternoon.

The Stock Rods are with us the 2 days as they race for their Lochgelly Masters - World Champion Dan Shannon makes the trip over to be with us, whilst Darren McAlpine is set to make his first HRP appearance of the season. Alec Cunningham and Lennon Grant are both looking to make their Stock Rod debuts, with almost 25 cars currently booked to race - it looks set to be an excellent weekend of racing for the Stock Rod formula.

The U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars join us on the Saturday night for an additional meeting with the drivers relishing the opportunity to showcase the formula in front of a speed weekend crowd - as they look to give a glimpse into the on track entertainment they provide on a regular basis here at Lochgelly Raceway.

The Ministox provide support on the Saturday evening, whilst the Junior Productions provide support on the Sunday.

A pre-meeting grid walk will take place on Sunday morning, with the National Hot Rod European Championship grid forming at 11am with the cars pushed to the track by race teams. The grid walk will take place from when the grid is formed around 11am, and the track will be cleared from 11.45am for the race getting underway at 12pm. We will have a posters available that are free to spectators with drivers able to sign them during the grid walk, whilst you may also pose for a photo with your favourite drivers! Drivers will be asked to be ready for 10.45am to commence loading the track ahead of the European Championship Grid Walk.

We will have a limited number of souvenir race programmes available for just £3. These are full colour 24 page brochures. These will be available from the main reception or from the drivers sign in office - but when they are gone, they are gone!.

We would like to extend our thanks to David Philp Commercials for sponsoring the National Hot Rod European Championship, and to all race teams, officials and spectators for joining us across the weekend.

A reminder, that practice will take place on Friday afternoon, 12-4pm. This is £50 for drivers to partake in, whilst it is free for spectators to attend.

Spectator gates will open at 1.30pm Saturday and 9.30am Sunday.

2 day trackside parking passes are available for those camping only. These must be displayed on your dash throughout the weekend..

Large free onsite car park available, with overflow on the drift track if required.

Wristbands cannot be purchased from the drivers sign in office.
