It is the final meeting of the 2023 season here at Lochgelly Raceway this Saturday, and it looks set to be an excellent night.
We will be raising funds on the night for a number of great causes – Strathcarron Hospice, Andys Man Club and Glasgow Childrens Hospital Charity. From 2 seater passenger experiences, to charity races, we hope to raise an excellent amount, for each of the causes. There will be a 1300 mechanics race and 1300 ladies race, as well as a Ministox adults race, with each participant donating/being sponsored a minimum of £75.
A reminder, that 2 seater passengers must purchase an admission band from the main reception, or they won’t be able to sign in for their passenger experience. Sign in for passenger experiences will be available from 1pm, at a cost of £30 per run. Limited availability remains. Any drivers participating in the charity races must also have an admission band from the main reception prior to signing in, and must sign in at the drivers sign in office. The main event itself, is headlined by the 1300 Stock Car Michelle Freck Memorial event, an event that we are proud to host, and thank the family for their continued support and allowing us to stage the event. The event is one that means a lot to us at Lochgelly Raceway, and one that means a lot to the drivers too. There has been 4 different winners of the event and with 25 drivers aiming to become the 5th – will Kyle Hegg become the first driver to defend and win it on successive years? Darren-Terry Brand and Luke Gordon are both set to make the trip north to join us, with Gordon being a regular attendee in the first half of the 2023 season. Ally and Kyle Strachan are both set to make the trip south from there North of Scotland base with Kyle having picked up some good results in recent events. Former Ministox driver, Sam Cavanagh has found his feet in the formula, and has been difficult to catch over the last month or so, and could well be a dark-horse for the event. The evening will round off with a 10 dash for cash for the 1300 Stock Cars – with the leader on each lap winning £10, and the overall winner claiming the cash kitty fund!
The Ministox will be racing for their inaugural HRP Ministox Disco Trophy, with the final winner taking away the trophy for a year. The meeting final will see the top point scorers start at the front, ensuring that the qualifying heats are vitally important for every driver! The ORCi Ministox have consistently been an entertaining, action packed formula throughout the 2023 season, and we expect the formula will provide some great action once more. A multitude of champions are once more with us, with the Scottish, ORCi, British and Irish Open champions all set to participate. Rian Mitchell secured the Racewall track points last weekend, and he will be looking to round off an excellent season with more success at his home track. Shaun Boyle took away a couple of race wins last time out here at Lochgelly, and will be hoping to repeat that form on Saturday night. South west based driver Lewis Middleton is once more making the trip north to join us – it’ll be his 4th meeting at Lochgelly in less than a month!
The Ninja Karts were an addition to the program midway through the year, with the Scottish Masters up for grabs. The event has attracted huge interest from around the UK and Ireland, with almost 40 karts set to make an appearance. It’ll be the final outing in the formula for a number of drivers racing this weekend, and we hope that it goes down as a memorable event for many – who we wish the best of luck in the future. A 2 thirds format will be used for the heats, with each driver racing in 2 out of the 3 heats, with pre-determined grids in graded order. The points will be accumulated from the heats – with every finishing driver scoring points using the Longhurst formula, with the meeting final (Scottish Masters) grid determined on points – with the top point scorers in each grade, starting at the front of their grade for the final. Subject to numbers, we may need to restrict the grid size for the meeting final… Format is subject to change!
The Micro Bangers complete the line up this weekend, with a place up for grabs in the 2024 Micro Banger World Cup.
