Saturday 3rd October seen some brilliant fast and furious racing at Lochgelly Raceway. The Ninja Karts headlined the event as they contested their Scottish Open Championship. The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars, CC Rods, 2.0 Hot Rods and Superstox completed the line up for the 16 race event.
The Ninja Karts Scottish Open was kindly sponsored by Still Barrell and Planters with all the kids getting some pre-meeting treats courtesy of the sponsor. The youngsters started off the night with their traditional whites and yellows race. A couple of visiting drivers bolstered the grid for this race, with around 10 of the lesser experienced drivers taking to the track. Six year old Brett Sneddon took the win – his first in the Ninja Kart formula ahead of Sophia Allan and Alix Martin as the two girl racers chased Brett for the lead. Harry Ford looked quick but a mid race spin dropped him back the order as he looked on track for a podium finish. Two all kart heats followed – 25 of the sports youngsters from throughout England, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland. The grids were pre-determined from the pre-meeting booking list through a random draw. With a number of race cautions throughout, things were never clear cut with both heats providing excellent battles all the way to the checkered flag. Max Armit took the win in the opening heat before Rory Wilson was awarded the win in heat 2. The points were tallied up and the grid was formed for the Scottish Open. The race had it all – superb battles – drama and front runners falling by the wayside. Jayden Jeffrey, Rory Wilson and Jaxon Cairns had a fantastic battle for the lead for long periods throughout the race – Cairns didn’t look the quickest of the trio, but kept himself in contention as the three karts battled within inches of each other for a number of laps. Wilson and Jeffrey battled soon battled for the lead and came across a back marker, which seen both Jeffrey and Wilson spin out of contention gifting the lead to Jaxon Cairns. Cairns went on to take the win in what was his final ever Ninja Kart race before retiring, ahead of Matthew Lake and Harry Hoy, with Alfie Shevill finishing as the top Scottish driver. For Jeffrey and Wilson, it was also the final time we’ll see both drivers in a Ninja Kart at Lochgelly Raceway.
The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars raced in the final round of the SP Utilities Series – with the points across the three rounds determining the series winner, with a tyre for the top point scoring driver within each grade (as the grades were at their first meeting within the series). The racing was action packed throughout the night, with the drivers saving their best til the meeting final! Heat wins went the way of Brant West and Kevin Baird before things spiced up in the meeting final. The cars were gridded in points order as per the series points. Brant West got away first and was looking comfortable at times – though a quick Craig Haxton soon caught him up and moved into the lead of the race. Behind Haxton, the bumpers started to go in – Brant West, Darren Rae and Gary Nicholls in the thick of the action and sparks were flying as the drivers took each other hard into the wall, allowing Fraser Clark and Sam Cavanagh to take advantage and move into second and third places respectively. Clark chased down Haxton up front, but the gap was too large to make any real impact. Joshua Machin, Chris Innes and Callum Sturrock all crossed the line within feet of each other too as the battles ran on throughout the field in the final.
The CC Rods produced some great racing throughout the night – Connor st Aubyn made his debut in the class having stepped up from Junior Productions, whilst Dylan O’Donnell made a return to racing in the ex Keira Wotherspoon car. Both drivers took some catching from up front, with st Aubyn taking two wins, and Donnelly taking the final.
The Superstox competed in the final round of the RS Motors Series, with Mirran Adams taking away a tyre courtesy of RS Motors as the top scoring white or yellow graded driver on the night. Gary Chisolm took a heat win, before Aaron Riddell took a heat and final double.
The 2.0 Hot Rods seen Olivia Kryzanowska take two race wins in the heats before Gary Dean took the win in the meeting final.
Congratulations to all the winners and podium finishers, and a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported racing at HRP Lochgelly Raceway.
