An eventful Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway seen 12 action packed races take place on a dry and sunny evening.
The Ministox were back with us for the first time in several weeks, and as always put on an entertaining display of racing. Hamish Plenderleith made his first appearance from the red grade, and didn’t look out of place at all, whilst Eevie Ford grew in confidence as the evening progressed as she started out her Ministox career. Heat 1 of the night seen Jake Wilson lose a wheel an clatter the armco early on in the race. National Champion Charlie Hardie take victory, after coming from the rear of the grid, with Hamish Plenderleith take an excellent second place, with ORCi Champion Robbie Armit rounding out the top three. The second heat of the night seen a brilliant battle throughout the race between the two leading drivers in the formula at the moment – Armit and Hardie, with Armit getting finding his way to the front of the pack, closely followed by Hardie behind. Once at the front, the two drivers had a great battle, with Hardie making a move to overtake the Robbie Armit car, and Armit following in close succession for the remainder of the race. A last lap lunge by Armit seen both himself and Hardie go wide, but Hardie would hold on to take the flag, with Armit finishing just ahead of Lewis Burgoyne and Jamie Dawson. The meeting final was an action packed race – with Jake Wilson finding himself spinning up the back straight and clattering the wall, following a push from Lewis Burgoyne and a coming together with Cole Ford. As the race wore on, the drivers battled vigorously for positions, with Robbie Armit finding himself pointing the wrong way during the race, as well as Lewis Burgoyne. Charlie Hardie swept to another victory on the night as he claimed his first hat-trick of the season. Rian Mitchell and Demi Ritchie both drove superbly to round off the top three in the meeting final.
The Superstox battled it out for the Mick Taylor sponsored Lochgelly Masters. David Lumsden and John Rankin made an appearance on track as they both look to get to grips with the formula. Rankin was bothered by engine troubles throughout the night which seen him retire to the infield on various occasions. Bryan Forrest was in scintillating form as he looked to retain the title won in 2021, and ultimately swept to a hat-trick of victories as he looks to have finally got his new car upto speed and handling to his liking. It wasn’t all plain sailing though, as Scottish Champion Dean Johnston put up a brilliant fight in the Masters race, closing down Forrest throughout the race, and putting in a strike onto the back bumper of the 309 car, forcing 309 wide as a result. However, it appeared that the 446 car jumped out of gear in the process, meaning that Dean couldn’t take advantage of the hit, and dropped back from Bryan again. Dean Johnston and Aaron Riddell both took away a couple of podium finishes on the night, but neither would take the win they would came for. Following on from the Lochgelly Masters race, it was great to see Bryan celebrate it with some victory donuts… with race sponsor Mick Taylor joining in on the fun and completed some donuts himself, much to the delight of the onlooking spectators.
The Junior Productions were in action for the final time ahead of their Scottish Championship this weekend – and again had 20+ cars take to the track. Delcan Dixon, Lewis Duffy and Jack Baird all put in strong showings from the lower grades, with Declan Dixon taking away a runners up spot in the opening heat of the night – Led home by Koddi Wright and followed across the line by Scottish Champion Jase Walle. Heat 2 of the night see Jase Wall take victory from Koddi Wright, with Jack Baird finishing just behind. The meeting final seen a great race for second place, Jase Walle, Lennon Grant, Lewis Duffy, Jack Baird were all in contention as they went into the final laps with nothing between them – Walle trying to go around the outside of the pack as he chased leader Koddi Wright. It would be Wright that would take victory, with Walle just managing to cross the line in second place ahead of Lennon Grant and Lewis Duffy.
The CC Rod were the final formula in action – and were eventful throughout the night – none moreseo than in the heat two. A coming together involving John Gorman and Kenny Pitcaithly seen the 195 car of John Gorman snap towards the wall before coming to a halt. The oncoming back had nowhere to go, and the unfortunate Raymond Brown, careered into the back of the 195 car, with another car running into Raymond as well. A substantial amount of damage to a few cars would see their night come to a close. Race wins would go the way of Kenny Pitchaithy and Jack Robertson in the heats, with Dean McGill taking the win in the meeting final.
We are back in action this Saturday night (17th) for what should be an excellent night of racing. The CC Rods and Junior Productions both battle it out for their respective Scottish Championships, whilst the 1300 Stock Cars race for the Craig McNicoll Memorial. The Stock Rods and Ministox both also feature. First race will get underway at 5pm!
