The action resumed at Lochgelly on Saturday 15th July, with the KN Transport Junior Productions British Championship taking centre stage. The drivers would pull a number from the back before the meeting to determine their starting positions in each of the three qualifying heats – each driver competing in two each, with the top point scorers starting at the front of the British Championship race. The attendee’s started off their evening with a parade lap, before the racing got underway. Heat 1 would go the way of Scottish driver, 352 Koddi Wright, having started near the front of the pack, with Wright finishing well ahead of second placed driver Daniel Stewart. Aiden McKinnon started off well with a third place finish after starting mid-pack. Heat 2 would see Northern Irish driver Calum Doak claim victory ahead of fellow Northern Irish driver Jack Devlin, with McKinnon again finishing in third position. The third and final qualifying heat would go the way of 262 Matthew Weir, with Joshua Murray inheriting second, and Lewis Duffy third. The British Championship race would see the drivers come out on track in grid order, with Wright and McKinnon on the front row, with a number of Northern Irish based drivers just behind. Wright got away well, with 441 Aiden McKinnon dropping down to fourth of fifth place on the opening lap, allowing Joshua Murray and Callum Doak through, with Jase Wall also managing to get through. Callahan Bremner 10, was another driver that had performed well in the qualifying heats, and found himself in the mix for the British Championship race, hanging onto the front running back for the duration of the race. Wright would lead and appeared to have things under control with Murray behind not able to sustain a challenge, who himself, was under pressure from Jase Walle. Wright however, found his race hampered having come across a few back markers, with 232 Nicole Innes and 321 Billie-Summer Glen tangling in front, and Abe Adams 576 just outside, Wright tried to avoid the cars on the inside, but couldn’t avoid the Abe Adams car on the outside. Adams and Wright both careered towards the infield, and this opened up the door for Joshua Murray to move into he lead, with Wright hanging onto second place for the time being – however, a damaged car would see him fall back the order, with Walle, Doak, McKinnon and Bremner all passing him fairly quickly thereafter. Joshua Murray would hold on to take the victory ahead of Jase Walle, who put up a strong fight despite having a couple more back marker issues to deal with throughout the race than Murray ahead. Doak would take third position ahead of McKinnon and Bremner in what was a fantastic race from the youngsters – although a pile up as they crossed the line further back, put a dampener on the race!

The CC Rods were with us as well, with the ‘non-contact’ formula having everyone talking about a number of comings together throughout the night – a big impact for Als Adams and Scott Ewans in the opening race seen both cars suffer major damage, although the Adams car did make it back out for further races on the night surprisingly. Ewans, wasn’t as luck however and his night was over. Before this, Brandon Gourlay on his return to the formula, found himself clatter the wall following a slight coming together with John Gorman, combined with a wet patch on the track! Gary Nicholls has been in impressive form in the Emma Muir car this season, and has moved to within a number of points behind Lee Scott in the points championship following last weekend event. Nicholls took a heat and final double, with Steven Adair claiming a heat win in the second heat in convincing fashion! Natalie Mason will be one of the front runners for the novice of the year, or most improved driver of the season awards come the end of the year, with the female race improving week after week. Two top 3 finishes in the heats put her up the front for the final grid, with only Nicholls ahead of her. Natalie dropped back through the order after a couple of bumps along the way, whilst Nicholls stormed to victory. Kevin Hutchison took second place finish, with Lee Scott inheriting third position as a result of the penalty handed to third across the line.

The 1300 Stock Car have long been one of the best formulas to watch, and they kicked of their evening with another great race – with many pushing and shuving throughout the race, and at times, it was three and four cars wide as the drivers jostled for position. Sam Cavanagh made his debut in the class following his retirement from the Ministox, and held his own for much of the first half of the race, before the pack caught him up and he dropped out of contention. Danny Whyte continued his impressive form of late, with another race win in the opening heat, ahead of Darren Rae and Michael Stewart. Stewart himself has been in great form since coming into the formula, and didn’t look out of place starting from the yellow grade at the weekend. Fraser Clark, another driver that has been in good form, took the race win in the second heat of the night, with National Points Champion, Kyle Hegg finishing behind him – in a race that would see Hegg retire from the night thereafter after oil pressure issues plagued him. The meeting final would see Ryan Muirhead take a commanding victory – the third different winner on the night – with Michael Stewart challenging him throughout the race, but unable to make a solid move for the race win. Stewart finished in second, just ahead of Danny Whyte, who overcame Fraser Clark on the last corner of the last lap. Kyle Hegg has once more been confirmed as the 1300 Stock Cars National Points Champion.

The Bangers were the final formula in attendance – the van bangers cancelled due to numbers were replaced by 2.0 bangers.. However, a couple of vans didn’t get the memo, and turned up anyhow. We gave them a race, and they went out and put on a fantastic showing – Zak Murdoch and Michelle Murdoch wowed the crowd with their on track antics! The 2.0 Bangers themselves, were buoyed by the Jokers, with the Ryan Martin and Grant Barker in non green cars! Barker was quick himself, and took victory in the opening race, despite being a target throughout the race. Ryan Martin took a heat and final double, before Dayle Linton took victory in the DD, following a good showing from Rocco Trench, Douglas Linton as well.

Many thanks to KN Transport for sponsoring the Junior Productions British Championship.

We are back in action at Lochgelly Raceway this Saturday, 22nd July, with the Superstox Lochgelly Masters taking place, alongside round 1 of the new National Hot Rod series. The Junior Productions and ProStocks both also feature – 6pm Start time!
