It was a dry but cold night on Saturday 7th March as the drivers took to the track to provide lots of superb on track racing, great entertainment and a whole lot of carnage!
The Van Bangers raced in round 1 of the Dhoom Indian Streatery Cash Chasher Series, which doubled up as the Shaun Walsh Memorial event, and we seen 25+ vans take to the track on the night. With this amount, it was certain to be action packed! The plate took a battering, the traffic lights even took a hit, and the crowd was delighted with what they seen from the vans. The drivers got stuck in, very few overtook anyone without hitting them, and only 5 vans finished the opening race, with Kai McNulty coming out on top in the Shaun Walsh Memorial. Barry Jarman brought out what appeared to be an old fish van, and it soon found itself scattered across the track! Connor Jones looked to be in the mix as well, though, he found himself caught up with only a few laps remaining and lost ground in the process, eventually finishing in fourth position. The first ‘heat’ of the night in the vans was another entertaining event, with Ryan Martin coming away victorious – though, that was in doubt too and he only held on thanks to a large lead that he had built up prior to getting caught up in a pile up midway through the race. McNulty finished in second, whilst old timer William Stawiarski secured a third place finish. The final race of the night for the vans would turn into a demolition derby, and it was the impressive looking van of Iain Tait that took the win in the race, before Ryan Martin took the win in the DD.
The Ninja Karts joined us for the first time in 2026 and it was pleasing to see a couple of newcomers take to the track – Sophie Love and Brett Sneddon being two such drivers, with Love opting to only do the whites and yellows race whilst she finds her feet, and Sneddon taking to the track in all races. We welcomed a couple of visiting drivers from across the water as numbers were boosted somewhat. A big plus from the night would be seeing a number of the lesser experienced drivers really step up, find confidence and be competing for long period in each of the races – Denni Farrell was one such driver, and the youngster being a tad unfortunate not to come away with some points. Further back there were some excellent battles in all races – Christopher Lattka, Henry Hunn, Rory Wilson, Jayden Jeffrey, Ryan Love, Jaxon Cairns and Eddie Fowler all having some brilliant battles, whilst Alfie MacLeod had an excellent meeting too. Race wins on the night went the way of Alfie MacLeod, Rory Wilson and Jayden Jeffrey.
The 2.0 Hot Rods were in attendance for the first time this year too, and it was good to see plenty of close, quick and competitive racing from the formula. Charlie Hardie was the driver to beat on the night though, as he raced to a hat-trick of victories. Mark Dews and Allan Gibson both showed some really good pace in all three races, but were unable to challenge Hardie who made the moves quickly and efficiently. William Buller looked to be improving in each passing race having appear to struggle for grip in the opening heat. Buller looked to be in with a chance of success in the final, and took some catching, but as Hardie made a move, both Dews and Gibson followed through with Buller dropping down to fourth.
The Superstox seen some very good racing, and it looked like Aaron Riddell was going to dominate proceedings after the opening heat as the 119 pilot drove to a comfortable race win. However, heat 2 seen Bryan Forrest and Jordan Black find improvements. As the laps wore on Bryan and Aaron had a fantastic battle with both drivers using the front bumper to good effect as they battled for the lead of the race. The meeting final was another good race despite challenging track conditions. Bryan Forrest would take the win ahead of Adam Low and David Lumsden.
The Junior Production class completed the line up, and it was pleasing to see a few new drivers make their debuts, with a number of drivers retiring in the winter months. Millie McGill, Tamia Aitken, Jayden McKie and Scott Thomson all raced for the first time in the formula, with all four showing improvement throughout the event. It was a great start to the season for Leeland Dearn as the youngster appears to have put his bad luck behind him as he took two race wins in the opening heats, before finishing just outside the top 3 in the meeting final. Louie Hendry looks like he will be one to watch in the years to come – the former Ninja Kart driver already starts from the yellow grade, and took a win in the meeting final on Saturday to once more showcase his talent. The Junior Production formula, as a whole, displayed lots of very good racing, and all of the drivers are worthy of some recognition. It certainly looks like it is going to be another very good year for the Junior Production formula!
