The 1300 Stock Cars were in sensational form last Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway as 30+ cars took to the track as they battled it out in sodden conditions for their 2022 Scottish Championship.

An out the hat draw would see a randomised grid form for the Direct Car Care sponsored Scottish Championship race itself, with defending champion Kyle Hegg starting nearer the back. Two attempts were required to get the race going with a car stalling as the green’s came out for the first time! Once we got underway, there was plenty of action, with cars spinning all around the raceway, cars running wide, bumpers going in throughout the field. Fraser Clark would find his window net dislodged resulting in a technical disqualification from the race much to his disappointment. Blair Robertson found himself break clear at the front of the grid, having managed to avoid much of the early race chaos. Darren Rae, Craig Haxton and Ally Strachan were all in the thick of the action, with Rae surviving a few scares throughout the race before charging back through the field as well. Defending champion Kyle Hegg found himself with a puncture, but despite his best efforts to carry on, the tyre was almost off the rim, resulting in a technical disqualification for the 715 car. Brant West found himself settled into second place, with Dean Abercrombie behind. The front three drivers seemed to have found a way to survive the drama in the race, meaning that Blair Robertson would be crowned the 2022 Scottish Champion, with Brant West finishing second, and Abercrombie in third. A fantastic race which started with 30+ cars, and just over 10 cars completing race distance come the chequred flag! Heat 1 of the night would see William Stawiarski take victory, with Dean Sievwright finishing second – in what was arguably his best meeting in the formula this season. Kyle Hegg, despite an earlier spin in the race, came back to finish in third place. Come the final race of the day for the superb 1300 Stock Cars, Regan Watson took another fine victory – his second in successive race meetings! Watson held on from a hard charging 715 Kyle Hegg car!

The Stock Rods would battle it out for their own Scottish Championship too – and with 2 reverse grid heat to start things off, it was reigning Scottish Champion Darren McAlpine that got off to a perfect start. McAlpine scooped an assured win in the opening heat, before bringing his car home in second place in heat 2, finishing behind Niall McFerran. McAlpine would find himself starting pole position for the main race. As the green flag dropped, McAlpine got away in front, though was soon under intense pressure from Siobhan Martin, with McFerran, Gary Dean, David Crichton and Brett Sneddon in close contention. On a wet and greasy track, drivers took various different racing lines as they looked to maximise their grip and speed on track. McAlpine took a wide line around the raceway, with Siobhan Martin trying a slightly tighter line. There wasn’t a lot between the drivers as Siobhan appeared to be quicker through the corners, but McAlpine able to stretch the gap up the straights. Eventually however, the former World Champion, Siobhan Martin would find a way to keep her car on the inside of the 721 car, and despite a brilliant effort on the outside of the 25 car, McAlpine would soon have to forfeit the place and then defend from the pack behind as well – given that he had committed to the outside line. A gremlin in the car though would see the McAlpine car slow down midway through the race, and out of contention, before being given a ‘push’ from the John Bremner car – for the second week in succession! Siobhan Martin would extend her lead at the front, whilst Gary Dean and Brett Sneddon had an epic battle for second place behind as well, with Gary Dean managing to overcome the Brett Sneddon car in the closing laps to take the runners up spot away from Sneddon.

The National Hot Rods had one of their best meetings in decades in Scotland – domestically at least – with almost 15 cars taking to the track on the night. A returning William Hardie, and a couple of visiting drivers in the shape of Barry Limer and 16 year old Ashley Shaw bolstered the grid, with Matt MacPherson dropping out due to illness before the meeting. Heat one would go the way of Scott Devine – who made his debut at the previous meeting, finishing just ahead of the charging William Hardie car in dry conditions. As the heavens opened during the meeting, the 469 car wouldn’t make it back out on track. William Hardie took full advantage of this, and went onto claim a heat and final double. Steven Armit, Ross Alexander and Roy Anderson all put in strong performances in the treacherous conditions, with Anderson continuing to be a driver that always thrives in such conditions!

The 2.0 Hot Rods seen Mark Dews in emphatic form – sweeping to an excellent hat-trick of race victories which will see him move up a grade for the next outing! Gerry Hendry made a return to racing having sat out the last meeting due to a clash of events, and struggled with conditions throughout the night – surprisingly given Gerry is usually excellent in wet conditions. Keith Brown put in an excellent showing again in the meeting final, overcoming Marc Honeyman and Jason Secker, with the trio putting on a proper showing to the crowd – with the drivers 3 abreast at one point as they diced for position in the wet conditions!

The Ninja Karts again, had some great races with the youngsters on track. The evening got underway with the whites and yellow race for the formula, and Blair Innes did his confidence the world of good, as he took an race win – finishing ahead of Jayden Roff and Louie Hendry. The night got even better for Innes though, as he took yet another victory in the first main heat of the night, finishing ahead of Jack Jones and Jayden Roff. Katie Lee Smart would also take a double – claiming race wins in the 2 further heats for the Ninja Karts. Katie Lee Smart is in impressive form right now, with some great results around the country.

We are back in action this Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway – a 5.30pm start time.
