It was a season opener that had a bit of everything!! Saturday 1st March seen the 2025 season get underway at HRP Lochgelly Raceway, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Despite the cold weather, a large crowd was present as they witnessed some super racing, entertaining banger action and plenty of on track action!
The Van Bangers were the headline formula as they raced for their Shaun Walsh Memorial event – an event that has seen several different winners over the years, and 2025 would see Zak Murdoch claim the win for the second time, leading from almost start to finish, and managing to avoid all the chaos going on around the raceway. 78 Aundre Adams was certainly entertaining throughout the event – hitting almost every van in site, and being hit himself a fair few times in the process. Adams was always smiling, and got a few deserving cheers on the night. Scott Allardyce found himself on his side at one point, having hit a kerb and into another fan, flipping the van in the process! Murdoch took a win in a further race, before Chris Watson took the win in the final race of the day, with James Slater taking the win in the DD. Chris Watson has to be commended though for his efforts, putting in a massive hit on the Slater fan that was across the track in his somewhat smaller van!
The Stock Rod formula raced in their first APEX Garden Buildings Rounds, with the points accruing from the series to give an overall winner come the end of the season. Despite a few drivers not quite being ready as yet, the action on track was up there with some of the best racing we have seen. Extremely competitive racing, with little to nothing between much of the drivers. It was bumper to bumper throughout the event, with numerous drivers making the outside line stick, with drivers giving enough room to be challenged without making it easy! This provided some brilliant battles, 5, 6, 7 cars all in close contention at regular times throughout the day. It was the McGill clan though that would come out on top – Lee McGill taking a win in both the heats, seeing him move up to blue grade for the final, before Dean McGill raced to victory in the meeting final. The Stock Rods are back in action this Saturday, and we hope to see more great close racing from the formula!
The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars never disappoint at Lochgelly Raceway. Even with a few drivers missing, the racing on Saturday was certainly exciting – the top drivers raced hard throughout the night – Fraser Clark, Jamie Stewart, Matthew Milliken and World Champion, Darren Rae – The four drivers dualled endlessly in each of the three races, pushing each other out the way, lap after lap, swapping positions and having everyone watch the fantastic battles. Kai McNulty had a strong evening, scoring well in each of the three races, whilst newcomer Connor Jones didn’t look out of place, and scored a hat-trick of top 3 finishes on his debut. Jamie Stewart took a heat and final double, whilst Northern Irishman, Matthew Milliken took a win in the further heat.
The youngsters in the Junior Productions were out in force, with just over 20 cars participating. Candice Smart made a return, whilst Adam Donnelly and Caden Wotherspoon both made their debuts. Wotherspoon drop superbly all night, and will be a difficult one to catch once he starts from the front. Wotherspoon kept close to the field throughout, and made some good overtakes as he moved up the positions during each race. There were new cars for some, and refurbed cars for most, as the opening heat seen some excellently prepared cars. A great race from the youngsters seen Scottish Champion Lewis Dickson come through to take the honours, followed home by Aiden Duffy and Nicole Innes. Kenzie Kopacz and Marley Montgomery both look to have found confidence, with both drivers racing excellently, holding there own, and scoring some good points on the night. Lee Moore was another driver that scored well on Saturday, the relative novice in the formula, improved as the night went on, accumulating in a 2nd place finish in the meeting final, only beaten by hat-trick driver, Lewis Dickson.
The Scrapco Metal Recycling Ninja Karts were the final formula in attendance, with a mix of drivers from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland in attendance, with Rudi Arcari making his racing debut in the process. The evening got underway with a race for the whites and yellows. Alix Martin ran away in this race as she drove to an excellent victory ahead of Ryan Love and Harley Wilson. The first main heat of the night seen all karts on track. The Ninja Karts never fail to disappoint when you consider the age of the drivers participating. The racecraft and ability to react is at times, second to none. Throughout the evening, there were few incidents – a few spinners, and a few coming togethers, but the rest of the pack did well to avoid, and in most cases, the drivers managed to get away under there own steam, without the need for a race caution. Rory Wilson took a victory in the opening heat, with Jayden Jeffrey crossing the line in first in heat 2, though, the race win was awarded to Henry Hunn, whilst Jeffrey made sure of things in the meeting final, finishing ahead of Parker Smtih and Henry Hunn. It was great to see the likes of Ryan Love and Alfie MacLeod score well on the night, as the youngsters continue to develop in the formula.
This Saturday (8th March), we see the Superstox, National Hot Rods, Stock Rods, ProStocks and Ministox in action, with the first race getting underway at 5.30pm.
