Saturday 27th May Results
It was a warm and dry Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway, with 13 great races on the night.

The ORCi Ministox started off the evening with their JusBounce Whites and Yellows series event. Kerr Paterson started from the red grade having moved up the grades recently, and with less cars on track than a normal race, it was always going to be a tough task to come through to get a top 3 finish, and that was the case. Some fast moving cars on track meant there was little between the pack, and Kevin Graham drove excellently to his first win at Lochgelly Raceway, holding off an ever improving Finlay Gemmell for the best part of the race. Rhys Anderson would bring his car home in third. The first main heat of the night would see 21 cars in action, with some great racing from the Ministox drivers. There was plenty of pushing and shuving, with drivers racing three abreast at times. 51, Finlay Gemmell would find himself pointing the wrong way midway through the race following a coming together with another driver. The youngster quickly got his car spun around though, and carried on. Charlie Burgoyne has been a driver that has shown great form here at Lochgelly Raceway in 2023, and looks set to mount a challenge for the top three in the track championship for his efforts – another race win in the opening heat of the night did his cause no harm at all. Charlie Hardie finished second, with Rhys Kelly completing the top three. Heat 2 would see another great race. Northern based driver, Rhys Kelly would continue his good form at Lochgelly, having took a race win last time out, he took a win in heat 2 on Saturday as well. Charlie Burgoyne brought his car home in second, and Kevin Graham in an excellent third position. The meeting final seen the fourth race winner of the night in the Ministox class – Finlay Gemmell taking his first win at Lochgelly Raceway ahead of Robbie Scott and Jake Wilson. Sam Cavanagh completed his Ministox career with the driver turning 16 shortly, and finished off with a hard fought 4th position in his final race. We’ll hopefully see Sam back on track in the not too distant future in another formula. At the other end of the scale, we seen Lucas Whyte make his debut in the Ministox, having moved on from Ninja Karts. Lucas did excellently to stay out of trouble, and managed some steady lap times throughout the evening.

The Stock Rods seen a few drivers missing from action on Saturday, however, the racing was nevertheless entertaining, with a lot of drivers up for the challenge. Ian Christie was in exceptional form in the heats, storming to race wins in each of them, before finding the track conditions tough in the opening laps of the final, dropping him down the order. James Robertson was in good form on the night as well, and despite a couple of comings togethers, he managed to come away with a second place finish in the opening heat, before holding off Brett Sneddon in the meeting final to take a race win. Thomas Brown was another driver that had a successful race meeting, managing to complete each of the three races without incident. A third in the opening heat, and a second place in the heat 2, put him on the front row for the final, although, like Ian Christie dropped back in the opening laps of the race and the pack charged through. Darren McAlpine has had an intermittent start to the 2023 year, but found good pace on Saturday coming from the red grade. A third place finish in the meeting final would have sent McAlpine away satisfied with his performance on the night, and a decent haul of points. John Lee Green made his season debut, and looked to be on the pace, despite starting from the rear of the grid. A few good results for the returning 194 car will have him optimistic for good results over the next few months.

The National Hot Rods competed in Round 11 of 12 on Saturday, with all to play for in the series as yet. Ross McWilliam looks to be on course to claim the Scottish Series, however, it isn’t a sure thing as yet, with William Hardie not too far behind. James Mooney, Gordon Alexander and John Sibbald are all in contention for the third and fourth places respectively, with Sibbald sitting in third before the event ahead of Mooney and Alexander. Doug McLean has been improving as the campaign has grown on, and has seen a few podium places go his way as a result. A third place in heat 1, before an excellent race win in heat 2 would see the 65 driver leave with some more good points. Gordon Alexander was the driver in form though, as he took an impressive heat and final double – narrowly missing out on a hat-trick of race wins after Doug McLean put up a sterling fight to keep Alexander behind in heat 2. World Champion Robert McDonald joined us for the evening as he did started off a three day tour, taking in Lochgelly, Tullyroan and Hednesord at the weekend!

The 1600 Rookie Bangers were the final formula in attendance, with pole position in the Scottish Championship up for grabs. The top point scorer from each of the three races would be the driver to take pole position slot. Ryan Martin was the top point scorer on the night, and will take pole for the Scottish here at Lochgelly in August. Several English based drivers made the trip north to be with us, with Rocco Trench also making his debut in the class after progressing from Junior Bangers. Dylan Ward took a race win in the opening heat, with Grant Barker claiming victory in heat 2. Danny McMullan took the win in the meeting final, before Barker took the win in the end of night ‘DD’. Thanks to all the drivers in attendance for making an effort to be with us at Lochgelly Raceway.

Thanks to everyone that came along, and we look forward to seeing you this weekend for two epic days of racing!! More information at www.hardieracepromotions.co.uk.
