It was a fast and furious Friday night at Lochgelly Raceway as three great formula took to the track as they looked to entertain the masses, and despite damp greasy conditions throughout the night, they put on a showing with strong car numbers for a Friday night event.

Over 20 Junior Productions and over 20 1300 Stock Cars took to the track, with just shy of 20 CC Rods also participating.

The Junior Productions kicked off the evening with the first race of the night, and with a couple of stoppages along the way, it felt like it was going to be ‘one of them nights’, where things just didn’t go the way you wanted them to go. That however thankfully, wasn’t the tone for the night, as much of the races went flag to flag with very littles stoppages or time delays, despite hard and fast racing on a difficult surface. Nicole Innes and Aiden Duffy both made their debut’s in the Junior Production class, with both drivers doing their best to stay out the way from the rear of the grid. Three different winners on the night bodes well for the formula this year, with plenty of competition and a number of now experienced drivers in the formula looking to step up. Liam Loggie was arguably the most consistent driver on the night, taking a heat win in the opening race of the night, before scoring well in the remaining two races as well. Kaden Connor brought out his new car for the first time, and immediately looked on the pace, taking a commanding, and relatively comfortable race win in heat 2, despite having to fend off from a race caution during the race. Hollie Ritchie looks to have settled her racing line down, and is now reaping the rewards for it. A second place finish in heat two, rounded off with a win in the meeting final would have sent her home delighted. A coming together between James Slater and Aiden McKinnon would be the talking point of the night, with varying opinions on the coming together. A nudge on the rear bumper of Aiden McKinnon from Slater would see the McKinnon car snap the wrong way and spin around, only to be collected by the oncoming Jack Baird. There was also strong showings throughout the evening for William Plenderleith and Baillie Glencross, with both drivers in the mix of things in each of the three races for the Junior Productions.

The 1300 Stock Cars seen a number of drivers turn up, that weren’t booked in, bolstering the car numbers to over 20 cars for the first time this season. Danny Whyte and Chris Gold made their season debuts, with David Farrell making his first outing in the 1300 Stock Cars. There was a father and daughter moment on track, with Harry Adams and Tori-Leigh Adams both sharing the track together for the first time. Danny Whyte started his season off in the best possible manner, tromping to a fantastic race win in the opening heat of the night from the blue grade. However, it wouldn’t get any better for the 126 car, as he failed to score in any of his further two races. William Stawiarski was the driver of the meeting as he made the most of his ‘heavy’ car in the damp conditions. A third place finish in the opening race of the night, was bettered by two race victories in the remaining two races – that will see him move up the grades with immediate effect. Kyle Hegg, Fraser Clark et al found the going tough from the rear of a competitive pack of cars, with the star graded drivers often found striking blows with each other in the early stages of each race as they all tried to break clear to make a charge on those ahead. Kyle Hegg and Steven Gold managed to take a second place finish each from the rear of the pack. Dean Abercrombie was in good form yet again though, holding his own throughout the night, and taking away a podium finish in the meeting final for his efforts. From the novices on track, there was strong performances from Michael Stewart and David Farrell, both of whom were a tad unlucky not to take away a better set of results having both challenged at the sharp end of the pack throughout the evening.

The CC Rods were the final formula in attendance on Friday night, as they continued their impressive start to the 2023 season. Natalie Mason and Graeme Hardie both made their first outings of the campaign. Hardie appeared to struggle with setup throughout the night, and often found himself on the wrong side of the kerb around the raceway as a result, dampening his efforts for success on the night. It was a night for the 2023 newcomers to the formula though, with Ryan Love and Garry Roberts sharing the wins between them from the white grade. Ryan Love would take a heat and final double, with Roberts taking the other heat win. John Gorman put in his best performance since joining the formula, taking away 2 runner up spots in the opening two heats, an effort both he and his dad will be proud of. Richard Cairns looks to have found a sweet spot in his car setup and is continuing to perform well in his car, showing good pace in both wet and dry conditions. Richard appears to have got to grips with the handling, with his racing line looking better with each passing race. Lee Scott and Robert Conway were the top performers from the rear of the pack, scoring well in the heats to put them in contention in the meeting final – though a third place finish for Lee Scott is all that was possible with a lot of quick cars still ahead of him. A regrading at the end of the March will be sure to mix things up and spice up the racing even more from the ever impressive CC Rod formula!

We are back at Lochgelly Raceway this Saturday (25th March) for more great racing. A five formula line up is planned, with 1600 Rookie Bangers, Classic Hot Rods, 2.0 Hot Rods, Superstox and Ministox set to entertain! 5.30pm start time!
