Last Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway seen the final meeting of April take place, in a meeting that seen it all – controversy, hard hitting, and great non-contact racing!

The youngsters in the Service Central Ninja Karts competed for the final time ahead of their 2023 World Championship here at Lochgelly Raceway on the 20th May, with positions still up for grabs for the event. Jayden Roff got off to the perfect start as he claimed victory in the whites and yellows race, with Rayah Burns looking in impressive form, as she raced to second place. 339 Henry Hunn looked to be on for a win in the first main heat of the night, before a yellow flag was brought out following a coming together between Jayden Roff and Sophia Allen. This reduced the healthy advantage at the front that Henry had opened up. As the race re-commenced, Hunn got off to a great start came ever so close to claiming victory, almost holding off HRP points champion Stuart Shevill. Shevill pressurized the Hunn kart for the closing few laps, and managed to get his nose up the inside on the back straight of the last lap of the race, to take victory. Heat 2 of the evening would see William Hunn cross the line first by narrow margins, though, he would later lose the win due to an infringement, elevating Abigail Chalmers into first position – her first win here at Lochgelly Raceway. The final Ninja Kart race of the day was heat 3, which seen a couple of infringements during the race from several drivers. There would be no stopping Jayden Lee Jeffrey up front though, who stormed to a fantastic race win ahead of Charlie Weston and Abigail Chalmers.

The Superstox were in fine form likewise, with another good field of cars on track, including a couple of visiting drivers. David Beattie from Northern Ireland and Gary Chisolm from England both made the trip to be with us. Neither driver managed to secure a race win on the night, but both will have left satisfied with their performances, acquiring some good track time in the process, ahead of the Superstox World Championship in August. It was, as has often been the case this season for the formula, a challenging night for all with a lot of fast drivers on track – three different winners on the night would see win’s go the way of Dean Johnston, Mark Brady and Jack Turbitt. A big talking point was the flash point between the top two in the National Points – Dean Johnston and Aaron Riddell in the meeting final. A couple of early nudges on each other seen Riddell take a big hit at the rear bumper of the Johnston car, with both cars clattering the wall at force, resulting in significant damage for both cars. Riddell would be unable to get his car clear of the wall to rejoin, however, Johnston managed to do so, and crept home in the remaining laps of the race to secure some valuable points in the battle for silver.

The CC Rods were back with us, with Scott Ewans making his first outing of the season, and Connor Mason having a go in the ex Graham Hardie car. Heat 1 of the night would start in dramatic fashion, with a coming together in the early stages of the race between several cars – Scott Ewans was deemed to be at fault and subsequently disqualified for his part in the action. Ewans was deemed to have made contact on the Graham Campbell car on turn 3 and 4, forcing Campbell into the wall. A domino effect followed, with Gary Nicholls taking evasive action and a coming together with Brian Allen as Allen moved back across the track, seen the 68 car spin around and hit the wall at the end of the home straight! Nicholls would go on to take the race win ahead of Ian Christie and Connor Mason. Heat 2 of the night seen Natalie Mason lead the way for the majority of the race, and it looked like she was putting up a good fight for the race win, holding a sterling inside line, and forcing anyone who wanted to challenge, to take the long way around. However, with the laps running down, Ian Christie managed to find a gap on the inside on the exit of turn 4, and squeezed his nose in, with Mason coming back across, there was contact between the two drivers. This unfortunately seen Mason retire from the race. Christie would go on and take the race win, followed by Connor Mason and Lee Scott. The meeting final would be lined up in points order following the results of the two qualifying heats, and it would be Ian Christie on pole position. Christie took a race win following a flag to flag victory, despite intense pressure throughout the race from Gary Nicholls, who didn’t seem to have the pace to make a move on the outside stick. Alec Cunningham finished in third position behind the front two, again, holding off the pack behind.

The 2.0 Hot Rods were the final formula in attendance, and like the Superstox, had a couple of visitors. Ben Murray and Mitch Soutar both made the trip north to be with us, ahead of the European Championship in June. Heat 1 of the night would see a rare yellow flag caution with Keith Brown and Scott Pratt tangling on the back straight with the cars stricken mid-way down the straight. Both cars were forced into retirement, whilst Ryan Mackie continued to show good pace, and take another race win. Ethan Doull would take the first of his race wins in heat 2, in another eventful race – an incident involving Keith Brown, Ryan Dunbar, and Gerry Hendry would see the three cars tangle into turn 3 and 4, with Hendry coming off worst. The meeting final would see Cameron Willacy and Ethan Doull start on the front row, and it was Willacy that got the lead in the early stages. However, a clip of the kerb would see a gap open up for Doull, who was helped through the gap by the train behind, would then move into the lead of the race. Doull would go on and take (an eventual) victory following an initial docking which was subsequently overturned upon further review. Mark Dews finished in second place, whilst James Morris brought his car home in third after a difficult night.

We are back in action this Saturday 6th May, with another great line up of action. The 1300 Stock Cars, Junior Productions, Stock Rods and National Hot Rods all feature. 6pm start time!
