It was a damp night at Lochgelly on Friday, but the rain stayed off for the majority of the night. This gave the race teams a track that was greasy, but also allowed for some great racing from each of the three formula.
Over 20 1300 Stock Cars took to the track, with a number of Northern Irish based drivers joining us. Matthew Millikan faired best of the visiting drivers, as he took away a 5th place finish in the meeting final for his efforts. Jamie Stewart made his first appearance in quite some time, and was on form on the night – racing to an unstoppable hat-trick of race wins, securing the Mr Gunn shield in the process. Behind Jamie though, there were plenty of battles, with each race seeing some great bumper work and race craft throughout. Fraser Clark continued his good form, as he took away 2 more runner up spots in the heats, with Brant West also scoring well on the night. It was good to see a number of drivers make their first appearances in the formula, with Brett Dawson being one such driver. Although he struggled throughout the night, he did manage to survive a few big pushes and did well to avoid a stationary car with one of them! We would like to thank the Mr Gunn family for their support of the event, and helping to ensure that it was once more, a memorable event for drivers and spectators alike. There is one more meeting for the 1300 Stock Cars are Lochgelly, taking place on the 11th November, as the formula race for their Michelle Freck Memorial.
The ORCi Ministox have had a great season once more, and again, put on another fantastic showing. We welcomed south coast driver Lewis Middleton once more, and he managed to take away a well deserved third place finish in the opening heat – but that’s about as good as it got for him, with a 9th in the 2nd heat, and a DNF in the meeting final following a coming together with Shaun Boyle. Shaun Boyle himself, had his best meeting of the season, and one that was possibly unexpected following a bruising weekend a couple of weeks ago at the British Championship. Boyle raced to a race win in both of his heats, before a DNF ruled him out in the meeting final. Charlie Hardie showed off the British Championship roof for the first time following his success 2 weeks ago, and the car suited the black and white checker. Caitlin Mitchell raced for the first time at Lochgelly, and what a debut it was for the youngster in difficult conditions. Leading the way for spells during the meeting, Caitlin capped off her performance with a superb 3rd place finish in the meeting final, helping her achieve driver of the meeting in the process. Kevin Graham and Nicole Allardyce both had great meetings as well, with the pair racing well and taking away some well deserved points for their efforts. A roll-over for ORCi Champion, Kerr Paterson on the last lap of the final seen the race halted as a result with the leaders having completed race distance. Dean Heeps made the most of his blue grade start, as he claimed victory in the meeting final, following steady improvements throughout the event. Thanks to WMH Developments for the tyre sponorship for the meeting final.
The CC Rods completed their season, and there was plenty to race for with the points championship still to be decided. Scottish Champion, Alec Cunningham was the quickest car on track throughout the night – but was maybe a little too quick as he found himself penalized on several occasions having run into the back of a number of cars. Cunningham certainly found the ideal setup for the conditions thought, and will no doubt be making a note of them for use at future events!! Brandon Gourlay was another driver showing excellent pace, taking a heat and final double for his efforts. Brandon has shown great pace since returning to the formula, and would no doubt have been up their battling for the points had he had a full season in the class. Kevin Hutchison and Gregor Whyte both scored well on the night, with Whyte making solid progress in the formula throughout the season, which has seen him move up into 2nd place in the points championship – finishing narrowly behind Ian Christie who has secured the CC Rod points championship for 2023. We would like to thank Specialist Roofing for their sponsorship of the meeting final.
We are back in action this Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway, with a 5pm start time. The event will feature the Van Banger Scottish Championship, Superstox, Junior Productions and National Hot Rods WQR 6.
