The Superstox headlined the event last Saturday as they contested their 2022 Scottish Championship. The formula provided some great racing throughout the night, with lots of pushing and shoving, with a few rivalries continuing to get people talking. The hard hitting Superstox have put on some good display’s of late, and it was great to see some more of that, without a huge amount of damage incurred by the drivers. The Superstox Scottish championship race was the first race of the night for the formula, and it seen Ciaran Adams start on pole position following the earlier, out of the hat, grid draw. Reigning Scottish Champion Aaron Riddell started alongside Ciaran, with the new National Points Champion on inside row 2 – in what looked to be a mouthwatering first couple of rows! As the green flag dropped, it was the pole sitter Adams that got away first, opening up a gap of 5-6 car lengths on those behind in the first lap or so, as the bumpers went in behind the 128 car. Dean Johnston would soon find himself in second place, chasing down the Adams car, with Riddell a following. Bryan Forrest made up ground as the race went on, having dropped back in the opening lap of the race, as he avoided the first lap chaos. Johnston would soon catch and pass the 128 car of Ciaran Adams, with Aaron Riddell following in close pursuit. All eyes were on the lead 2 as the gap seemed to close up, before opening back up again, throughout the race. Riddell wouldn’t be able to get close enough to the 446 car of Dean Johnston however, and it was Johnston that took the win from outgoing champion, Aaron Riddell. Bryan Forrest would make his way up into third place, overcoming Ciaran Adams with several laps remaining. The further 2 heats would see Riddell and Johnston exchange blows in first heat, with Johnston failing to finish as a result, whilst Bryan Forrest would take the first of his two victories on the night. The final race of the night for the Superstox seen arguably one of the best races of the season, with some great racing going on as the drivers battled for the lead of the race. Adam Low got things underway as he put a big hit in on Dean Johnston with Johnston having moved him wide the corner before. The hit from Low would see Dean go wide, allowing Bryan Forrest to move into the lead of the race. This lead wouldn’t last too long though, as Johnston again came back at Forrest with a big hit of his own, with Forrest going wide and sitting on the outside of the 446 car for a lap or so, before tucking back in behind, with another hit of his own to take the lead of the race. This seemed to energise the 309 pilot, who raced a solid last few laps to keep a steady gap behind, with Johnston unable to strike back. Aaron Riddell brought his car home in third place.

The ProStocks have had better days, with car numbers just breaking double figures yet again, though, that didn’t mean that they would be a boring watch – infact, quite the opposite, with some great racing in each of the three races. Ryan Martin was in the mix of the action throughout, as he put in some good hits, though was also on the receiving end at times as well, though, all within the rule book and not a lot of damage sustained by the drivers. Ian Christie would be the driver to capitalize on the misfortunes of others as he cooly moved his way to the front of the pack, followed home by the most experienced driver on the grid, John Mason. Heat 2 would again see some more great racing, with bumpers being put in throughout the race, and cars being spun around and pushed out wide – again, it would be the 170 pilot, Ian Christie that would keep himself out of trouble and come through to take his second race win of the evening, with Graeme Fleming taking second place, following a great battle with Ryan Martin. The meeting final, was perhaps the tamest race of the night for the class, with most of the drivers completing race distance!! Scott Gardner broke away from the pack, and never looked back, and never looked like being caught as he took a flag to flag victory. Behind him, Ryan Martin, Gavin Ritchie, Becki Ritchie, Ian Christie and Robert Conway all had some great battles, with nothing given between much of them, though Becki found herself drop back. Christie couldn’t shake off Conway, with both drivers exchanging places throughout the race, whilst Richie and Martin broke away and had a good tussle between themselves, with Martin taking second place, and Gavin Ritchie having to settle for third, though, second through to fifth all finished within a few car lengths of each other!

The Stock Rods were in action as they competed for the final time ahead of their Scottish Championship next weekend, and it was National Points Champion Siobhan Martin that would dominate proceedings, taking a heat and final double, though, a resurgent Brett Sneddon would also take a heat win, and put Martin under pressure in the closing stages of the final. Sammy Pate had one of his best meetings in the formula to date, taking away a fantastic second place finish in heat 2, whilst Stewart Aitken also made a return to racing following a period on the sidelines due to illness.

The youngsters in the Junior Productions continue to go from strength to strength, with more and more cars taking to the track on a regular basis. Saturday night was no exception, as the youngsters had just under 25 cars take to the track on the night, with a couple having to drop out before the meeting. There is a very real possibility that we could see 30 cars take to the track before the end of the 2022 season – an amazing achievement considering the formula has only been racing for several years. However, as with anything, the more drivers on track, the more competitive the racing becomes, and the more accidents will occur on track. Connie Anderson, made a return to action following some damage in Northern Ireland a few weeks back, but her return was short lived, as she found herself on the outside of three cars going into turn 3 with her becoming stranded mid corner in the opening laps of the race. Without too much time to react, another car would run into the Connie Anderson car resulting in some damage, that would end her night of racing. The star graded drivers at the back of the field are finding it more and more difficult to navigate their way through the grid as more and more drivers become competitive. Connor St Aubyn was the stand out driver on the night, taking wins in 3 of the 4 races, that will see him move up the grades in the coming meetings, whilst Jack Baird took a win in the meeting final. There were also excellent showings from Dale Sutherland in only his third full meeting – A couple of podium positions for his efforts. Baillie Glencross, in her first meeting starting from the front, also had an excellent meeting, rounded off by a fourth place finish in the all comers race at the end of the night. Liam Loggie, Lewis Duffy and Hollie Ritchie all continue to show great speed and are beginning to pick up some good results as a result of their continued efforts. A coming together between Ritchie and Declan Dixon in the final race of the night, marred what was an excellent night for the youngsters.

We are back in action this Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway, as the 1300 Stock Cars contest their Scottish Championship, sponsored by Direct Car Care. The Stock Rods also race for their own Scottish Championship, whilst the National Hot Rods, 2.0 Hot Rods and Ninja Karts all also feature.
