It was a five formula event on Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway, with some good grids of cars, and good racing as a result throughout the evening. The Superstox had one of the best turn outs domestically, in quite some time, with over 20 cars taking to the track, including the returning Stewart Crookston.
The Service Central sponsored Ninja Karts kicked off the evening’s entertainment with their whites and yellows race, which seen a morale and confidence boosting win going the way of Blair Innes – holding off Cameron Mason and Aiden Bell for the last couple of laps of the race. Christopher Lattka made his debut, and finished in fourth place, after a few others spun in the closing stages, with Lattka benefiting and avoiding the trouble. It was a great night for the Hunn brothers, with both Henry and William picking up race wins, with William picking up two of the three heats. Heat 1 of the night seen a great race with Henry Hunn leading home Clark Ferris by just over half a second. Behind these pair, Louie Hendry survived a last corner attempt from Stuart Shevill to take the final podium place, with Shevill spinning around and being collected by the oncoming Rayah Burns. Heat 2 was an even better race from the youngsters with close battles throughout the race. The race leaders, battling superbly. The race would be decided on the final lap, with William Hunn this time taking the victory – albeit, by the narrowest of margins. Clark Ferris took the lead of the race around the mid-way stage of the race, but Hunn to his credit, stuck with him and on the final lap as the drivers negotiated back markers, Hunn managed to make a move on the inside of Ferris, crossing the line only 0.033 seconds ahead! Jaxon York brought his kart home in third place ahead of Layton Cairns. Heat 3, and the final race of the night for the Ninja Karts seen another good performance from the youngsters. William and Henry Hunn found themselves sitting in first and second for long periods of the race, with Stuart Shevill just behind. The Hunn brothers came mighty close to making contact at times but did well to avoid each other and keep Shevill at bay. Behind the lead three, Jaxon York was closing the gap with the race finishing with less than 1 second between the top four karts. William Hunn took victory, with Stuart Shevill second, and Henry Hunn in third. Sophia Allan drove a strong race to bring her kart home in 5th position. Cole York made his Lochgelly debut as well and looked assured in the whites and yellows race, completing race distance.
The National Hot Rods competed in the final round of there 12 World Qualifying events ahead of the World Championship at Ipswich next month. With lots still to play for, including the quest for the Scottish Series Champion, and qualification for the main event. Ross McWilliam started the night off in pole position, however, didn’t compete with his World Final prep already underway. This opened up the door for William Hardie to claim the top spot, having started the meeting only a handful of points behind. 11 cars took to the track on the night, including the returning Scott Devine. Heat 1 would see Hardie take to the track and score enough points to secure top spot in the rankings. Marc Spence had a great night of racing, taking a heat win in the opening race ahead of Gordon Alexander, and finishing in second in heat 2 behind Doug McLean, having seen 2nd place finished Gordon Alexander docked a couple of places for perceived contact. Alexander himself was a man on a mission, and was in determined mood as he looked to reel in the 142 car of James Mooney for the final qualification place for the World Championship. Alexander started the series off on the back foot having missed a couple of rounds through injury, but will have been pleased to close up the gap to give him a chance in the final round. Doug McLean continued his steady improvement in the formula, taking another race win for his efforts in heat 2. Ian Donaldson will be hoping he has put an end to his troubles, having had a nightmare of a time in recent events. A third place finish in heat 2 will be a satisfying result for the 700 pilot. The meeting final would see the cars gridded in ranking order – Hardie and McWilliam were both missing from the front row, so John Sibbald would inherit pole position for the race. Sibbald would take victory, hanging on from Gordon Alexander who pressured for much of the race, but couldn’t find a way around the outside of the 629 car. James Mooney finished in third spot ahead of Doug McLean and Steven Armit. Congratulations to the four Scottish Qualifiers – William Hardie, Ross McWilliam, John Sibbald and Gordon Alexander – Alexander claiming the position ahead of Mooney with the battle going down to the final race! We would like to thank all of the tyre sponsors at this event, Armits Autos sponsoring a tyre for the final winner (Gordon Alexander) and RMH Motors sponsoring a tyre for the top white or yellow graded driver in the final (Scott Devine).
The Stock Rods have had some great racing of late, and Saturday was no different. Graham Booty was a welcome visitor from Spedeworth territory in England. Ian Christie has been in good form of late, taking a few race wins over the last couple of meetings, and he started the night off in the best possible fashion, as he claimed victory in heat 1, finishing just ahead of the recently returned John Lee Green. That was as good as it got for the 170 car of Ian Christie however, as he ran into problems in the remaining races. John Lee Green showed good pace all night, and took a deserving heat and final double, although, he was pushed all the way in the meeting final, hanging on having sustained a strong challenge from Siobhan Martin and Gary Dean. Gary Dean claimed second place ahead of Siobhan after Siobhan was caught on the outside line. Former CC Rod drivers, Thomas Brown, Kyle Hutchison and Raymond Brown all had good results on the night with each of them picking up a top three finish for their efforts.
The Classic Hot Rods welcomed Tony Moss as a visiting driver, with 6 cars taking to the track on the night. John Buchan was in dominant form, as he swept to a convincing hat-trick of victories. A coming together between Tony Moss and Adam Low soured the event slightly with some damage occurring as a result of the incident.
The Superstox seen an impressive 21 cars take to the track, with a few visiting drivers bolstering the numbers. Graham Meek from Northern Ireland, Eric Walker and Bobby Davis Jnr from England were the three that made the trip to be with us on Saturday. Meek faired the best of the three, picking up a runners up spot in heat 2. There would be no stopping Lee Livingston though, who dominated the evening, picking up a fine hat-trick of victories. Jack Turbitt took 2x 2nd place finishes as he continued his impressive form in 2023 which currently see’s him sit top of the track points chart. Mirran Adams had her best meeting in the formula to date, putting in some steady laps, and despite not scoring any points, she’ll be happy with the progress she has made.
We are back in action this Friday (16th June) with the CC Rods, 1300 Stock Cars and Junior Productions taking to the track. Our final event this side of the summer break takes place on the 24th June.
