The 2023 season seen an excellent conclusion on Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway, with it being our annual charity event, alongside some fantastic racing.
The charity event seen a number of ‘novelty races’, including a ladies race for 1300 Stock Cars, a mechanics race for 1300 Stock Cars, and an adults race for ORCi Ministox. Alongside these charity races, we also had a number of drivers give up their time to participate in 2 seater experiences throughout the night. A grand sum of over £5,000 was raised, to be split between the three nominated charities – Andys Man Club, Strathcarron Hospice and Glasgow Childrens Charity Hospital. Well done to everyone that took part – and thank you for your support of these great charities.
The 1300 Stock Cars raced for their Michelle Freck Memorial event, with almost 30 cars taking part. A closed grid start for the race seen the bumpers fly in no sooner than the green flag had been dropped, and the first couple of laps of the race were absolute mayhem, with cars everywhere! As the race settled down, Cardenden’s Danny Whyte found himself leading the way, with Rosyth’s Brant West chasing him down in 2nd place. Beyond that, there was some fantastic driver, with Craig Haxton making great progress from the back of the field at an early caution, the Lochgelly driver bringing his car into the top 5. Brant West soon moved ahead of Whyte and into the lead of the race, and opening up a gap that Whyte would be unable to close once more. West capped off an excellent season with the victory in the Michelle Freck Memorial race, with Whyte finishing 2nd and Steven Gold in 3rd place. European Champion Darren Terry Brand was the first of the visiting drivers across the line, finishing in 5th place, just behind Craig Haxton. The prior two heats seen Jamie Stewart take victory in the opening race, before Danny Whyte took a win in heat 2. An end of season Dash for Cash took place, with Danny Whyte once more taking victory just ahead of Gary Nicholls.
The Ninja Karts were in fantastic numbers, as over 40 drivers descended upon Lochgelly Raceway to participate in the Scottish Masters event. The heats would be split, with the final set to be split as well, however, a number of drop outs during the meeting meant that the final was able to be run all in. Louie Hendry took a fantastic victory in heat 1, whilst Rayah Burns claimed victory in heat 2, and the only English winner of the night, Charlie Weston took victory in heat 3. The Scottish Masters race seen 36 karts take to the track, and a mid race stoppage seen the pack bunch up, with Charlie Weston at the front of the pack. Louie Hendry continued his excellent form, as he soon found himself challenging the former British Champion, before moving into the lead of the race to take the win in the inaugural Scottish Masters event. Charlie Weston finished just behind Louie in 2nd place, with Rory Wilson coming through to take 3rd place, just ahead of the outgoing National Points Champion, Stuart Shevill. Many thanks to each and every Ninja Kart team that made the visit to us at the weekend on what was a very cold night!
The ORCi Ministox raced for the HRP Ministox Disco trophy, with 2 qualifying heats taking place, to determine the grid for the meeting final. Dougie Kidd, returning to action for the first time since a big shunt at the British Championship event in October, was in excellent form, as he took race wins in both of the heats, putting him on pole position for the meeting final. Charlie Hardie started alongside the 45 car in the main race, and Hardie got the better of the starts, moving into the lead of the race and never looked back thereafter. Behind him though, there was plenty of chopping and changing of positions as the drivers battled it out for the final time in the 2023 season. Jake Wilson battled through for 2nd place, with North of Scotland based Ethan Gemmell coming through for third in what was an excellent night for the youngster.
The Micro Bangers were the final formula in action, and served up some hard hitting racing throughout the night, with a few interesting moments! Barry Jarman looked to liven things up early on, and set about after another driver, though, didn’t make any contact except with the wall! Sean McConnachie has been in great form at Lochgelly of late, and once more took another couple of victories, including the meeting final. Martin Loggie took a race win in heat 2, before Jamie Sangster took the win in the DD – and scored enough points to claim a seeded entry into the 2024 Micro Banger World Cup as a result!
That’s all from us for the 2023 season, but we’ll be back in late February for the start of 2024!!
