The Van Bangers Demolition Derby was the highlight of the night, with one of the best DDs that we have seen in recent times. The majority of vans in attendance made it out for the final event of the night, and boy, did they put on a show. There were some destroyed vans come the end of things, with Englishman Callum Hall reigning victorious in the DD, whilst Lee Clarke stole the entertainer award after refusing to let his van die, despite the best efforts of those on track around him. Scott Dubickas also took home a nice wreck of a van, whilst Zak Murdoch raced his way to glory in the Van Banger Scottish Championship earlier in the night. We would like to thank Scrap A Car Scotland for their contribution to the HRP National Banger scene throughout 2022, and all those that have supported us throughout the year!
The National Hot Rods competed in their sixth World Qualifying Round - which was also the Lawrence Inglis Memorial event - resurrected after a few years with the ever increasing car numbers. Steven Armit was again in good form in the wet and greasy conditions, and took a deserving race win in the first heat of the night, before William Hardie swept to a heat and final double - with Steven Armit collecting a tyre on behalf of meeting sponsor - Armits Autos!
The 2.0 Hot Rods seen a strong number of cars on track with some great racing as a result, despite difficult track conditions. Gerry Hendry and Jock Campbell were both welcome returnees, and both drivers seem to enjoy the more difficult track conditions. Mark Dews continued his impressive run of form, with another heat win in the opening heat of the night for the 2.0 Hot Rods. Jock Campbell took a commanding victory in heat 2, before Marc Honeyman took another final win. Former World Champion James Morris claimed the track championship.
The Superstox found themselves using various different lines - some drivers opting to run the wide line as is common in wet conditions, with others opting to choose the normal racing line - this allowed for some interesting racing, with cars on the inside gaining an advantage around the corners, but having less speed on the straights. Bryan Forrest and Dean Johnston exchanged blows in the opening race, with Forrest retiring in heat 2 with mechanical issues, that also kept him out of the meeting final. Kenny McKenzie was in great form - claiming a heat and final double that will see him move up to red grade for the next event. Ciaran Adams also took a win in heat 2 after looking on course for a win in heat 1 before a diff issue forced him into retirement. Dean Johnston claimed the track championship on the night, adding to his National Points and Scottish Championship titles.
The Junior Productions were again in great form - another healthy field of cars on track, and some excellent performances from a number of the lower graded drivers. Maia Thompson was extremely unfortunate not to take a race win on the night, as she led the way in each of the races before seeing her progress thwarted by yellow flag cautions. Liam Loggie took a win in heat 1, with Northern Irish visitor Leyton Hughes taking a win in heat 2. Koddi Wright took victory in the meeting final, with Liam Loggie and Maia Thompson rounding out the top three. Koddi Wright put enough daylight between himself and his challengers to claim the points championship for 2022.
We are back in action this Saturday, with the first race taking place at 4pm, with some charity 2 seater races starting at 3pm. The 1300 Stock Cars race in their Michelle Freck Memorial event, whilst the Micro Bangers, ProStocks and Ministox all also feature before a Caravan Race rounds off the evening.
