It was great to be back in action following a few weeks away.
We returned to some great weather, and some great racing as well! Each of the five formula provided entertainment and close fast racing.
The Back 2 Basics Van Bangers headlined the event with a great mix of easy to build vans taking to the track. Michelle Murdoch returned to action for the first time since 2019, and got off to a perfect start, taking a win in the opening race of the night, tearing away from the pack, with the Scrap A Car Scotland sponsored William Stawiarski taking his van home to a second place finish. Throughout the race, the bumpers went in, with Barry Jarman, Lee Clarke and Ryan Love getting stuck in and putting on a great showing. Heat 2 of the night, seen race 1 winner fail to get going as her van run into issues. Stav took full advantage of the missing 244 car, as he stormed to an emphatic race win – lapping the majority of the grid. Gav Broadbent took second place in this race, followed by Drifltand’s Stuart McLellan – making his debut in oval racing! The final seen Stawiarski take yet another race win – possibly his most ever in any one night? CC Rod pilot Kev Hutchison rodded his way to second as he avoided much of the carnage, but got stuck in as soon as the green flag dropped for the DD – although, found himself in the wall in the process! A number of vans did the DD, though, a few seemed to forget it was a DD and it took Stav to turn his van around and go for a head-on as he killed both his van, and the competition’s!! Though, Stu McLellan came around to finish things off with a hit to end his van as well!
The 2.0 Hot Rods provided some great non-contact racing throughout the night, despite a few cars missing from the action. World Champion, James Morris looks in fine form as he aims to defend his title in less than 2 weeks time, as he took a heat and final double. Gerry Hendry looks to be finding consistency again as he looks to maintain a challenge over the next few months. Keith Brown looks up to speed in the 2.0 Hot Rods now, and is looking like a driver with a lot of potential – as he took his first win from blue grade at the weekend. Jock Campbell made a return to action having missed a few meetings due to work and holiday clashes, whilst Lewis Willacy had an outing in the Cameron Willacy car as Cameron missed out due to illness.
The Superstox formula seen Dean Johnston sweep to an excellent Hat Trick of race wins, taking away the Hoosier sponsored tyre as a result of his efforts – opening up his lead at the top of the National Points in the process, with only a few point scoring meetings remaining. Aaron Riddell did his best to keep tabs on the hat-trick driver, taking 2x 2nd place finishes on the night, with only Kenny McKenzie preventing Riddell from a hat-trick of 2nd place finishes!! Jordan Black made a return to action in the ex Jack Turbitt car, with Jack having a new car on order. David Lumsden, a name from 30+ years ago, made a return to racing in the formula, having last raced them at Newtongrange!! Lumsden showed some great pace, though was caught up in a crash in the opening race, and didn’t quite show the same pace in the further remaining races.
The Junior Productions continue to excel, with another strong field of cars in action. Dale Sutherland made his debut, whilst Kaden Connor took his first win in only his second meeting. Connor St Aubyn looks to have found his confidence in the formula as he managed to lead for a good proportion of the meeting final – and held onto to take a top 5 finish as well. Aiden McKinnon is a driver that looks destined to do well in the remainder of the season as he moves up the grades – Aiden took away a hat-trick of top 3 finishes on Saturday – a first, a second and a third place. Olivia Krzyzanowska has had a tough few meetings, though looks to have regained her confidence, as she took home a second and third place in each of the heats. Further back, there was some great racing from the red grades, with Lennon Grant, Koddi Wright and Jase Walle all racing bumper to bumper throughout the night, with Wright securing a win in the meeting final.
The Ninja Karts again had another excellent showing – a meeting that almost had no stoppages which would have been a first had it not been for a yellow flag in the third heat of the night!! Louie Hendry took the win in the whites and yellows race, whilst Dougie Kidd took another hat trick of race wins. His third hat trick of the season. British Champion Kenzie Bell kept Dougie honest throughout the night, as he managed to finish 2nd in each of the three races. Jenson Fish and Artur Ware were welcome visitors, as well as Rosie Tuppen, who made her first appearance at Lochgelly Raceway. Abigail Chalmers became the latest driver to join the ranks in the Ninja Karts as she made her debut in the class. Aiden Bell drove well in the whites and yellows race, leading for the majority of the race, before spinning out in the latter stages.
We are back in action this Saturday night (23rd July) as we welcome the National Hot Rods, Classic Hot Rods, CC Rods, Ministox, 1300 Stock Cars and ProStocks.
