The 1600 Bangers rocked into town last Saturday night as they contested the 2022 Scottish Championship. Just under 40 bangers took to the track on the night and provided some great racing, with some big crashes as well!

The Scottish Championship race was the first race of the night for the formula. From the moment the green flag dropped, the action started as the bumpers flew in from the outset. Local driver Lee Clarke would find himself in the back of another car on the exit of turn 4 following a big hit, with Clarke himself finding the Sam Duckett car joining him in the corner as Duckett took a shot at the Clarke machine. Further on in the race, more carnage would see more cars join the train of cars parked on the outside of turn 3 and 4. Jake Stewart, Chris McNeil and Mark Shaw all heading into the wall as well, and ultimately, into the back of the Sum Duckett car! A great battle for the lead would see Danny Grady and Korben Quinn battle it out for the duration of the race, with little to nothing between the two cars. A last lap attempt from Grady would not be enough to dislodge the Quinn motor though, as the youngsters took the win in the Scottish Championship race, adding to his Junior Banger crown he won here at Lochgelly previously. Heat 2 of the night seen much of the same, with various drivers having a good crash, whilst others found their way around the raceway without getting into too much bother, with Danny Grady taking a race win in the first of the 2 all comers, before Joey Reynolds took the win in the second of the two all comers. Around 6 cars participated in the end of the day Demolition Derby, with Jordan Ellwood putting in a great showing as he hit everything he possibly could, and in the end took a joint win with Dylan Ward, with both cars grinding to a halt at the end of the race.

The ProStocks were down on numbers, though the first heat of the night did provide some action with a big impact for Graeme Fleming which would see both his night, and that of Gavin Ritchie come to a halt before it had got off the mark. A hit from Robert Conway and Ryan Martin, seen Ritchie and Fleming become tangled and both cars then head for the wall, with nothing either driver could do to get out of the situation. Ian Christie would go on to take a win in both heats, whilst Mark Boyle took a win in the meeting final.

The CC Rods had a good field of cars on track, considering they were only added to the schedule a few days before the event took place. Just under 20 cars provided some great racing throughout the night, with the non-contact class showing just how good they can be. James Robertson took to the track, and from white grade, was perhaps a little under graded, as he swept to a hat-trick of race victories, which will see him elevated to blue grade this Friday night. Scott Ewans had one of his best performances since joining the formula earlier this season, and took away an excellent 2nd place finish in the opening heat of the night, as yet again, the lower graded drivers proved difficult to catch for those starting at the back of the grid. John Bremner had an outing in the formula, and had a good night, taking away a couple of top three finishes for his efforts, whilst Raymond Brown and Kyle Hutchison continue to lead the way at the top of the points charts in what looks set to be a titanic battle until the end of the season. Both drivers have shown great consistency throughout the season and deserve to be up there battling it out. Ian Christie put in a strong performance from the rear of the grid, as he looks to build up momentum before defending his Scottish Championship in the coming months.

The Junior Productions continue to go from strength the strength, with more and more drivers joining the ranks and getting up to speed as the season progresses. Maia Thompson made her home debut, whilst Candice Smart was set to make her first appearance in the class but dropped out after practice. Connor St Aubyn really looks to have found himself in the formula, having made the switch from Ministox early in 2022. It has taken Connor some time to find his feet, but is really starting to come good now, which meant him taking away a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd place trophy at the weekend, which will likely see him move up the grades at the end of the month. Aiden McKinnon, Lennon Grant, Koddi Wright and Jase Walle all look to be similarly paced at the moment, with McKinnon taking away a win in the opening race of the day, and Wright taking a win in heat 2 before Connor St Aubyn took the meeting final. Jase Walle was unfortunate on the wrong end of a couple of black cross offences on Saturday, which seen his results show as worse than they actually were following a couple of dockings. Walle crossed the line in first place in the second heat, but was deemed to have had 2 offences upheld dropping him down the order, in what was a disappointment for the Scottish Champion.

We are back in action this Friday (12th August), with the CC Rods, 1300 Stock Cars and Ministox taking to the track in what should be a quick fire exciting race meeting!
