Chalmers In Autism Awareness Victory
In the midst of some dire weather around the country, Saturday turned out to be unexpectedly dry and sunny for the majority of the day – but a cold track, with damp patches made driving conditions challenging for each of the formula in attendance on the night.

The Ninja Karts raced in their annual Autism Awareness event, with donation points on site, with just under £400 raised to be donated to charity. The racing started with a whites and yellows event for the youngsters in the Ninja Karts, with Bobby Whyte storming to an excellent victory. Alfie MacLeod has improved hugely throughout the season, and is now beginning to find himself racing for point scoring positions, and in the whites and yellows race, a delighted young Alfie MacLeod took 2nd place, finishing just ahead of Mathew McIntyre, with the top three all hi-fiving each other after the race! Heat 1 of the night went the way of Louie Hendry, with 2023 novices Rory Wilson and Christopher Lattka finishing in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Heat 2 would see the starting positions reversed for the start, and this time it would be Rory Wilson that came through to take victory, finishing ahead of Abigail Chalmers and Katie Lee Smart. The points from the 2 heats would see the drivers lined up in graded order, with the top point scorers at the front of each grade. From the outset, Abigail Chalmers broke clear of the blue grades and opened up a gap to those behind as she moved towards the front of the pack, and soon into the lead of the race, having closed down and overcame Louie Hendry. Rory Wilson found himself in a race, with Katie Lee Smart in close contention too. Neither though, would be able to find a way past Hendry for 2nd place, with Wilson taking 3rd ahead of Smart.

The Stock Rods seen a decent turn out of cars, with Rory Naismith and Teri Linden both making their season debuts – on the final meeting of the season, as the numbers begin to swell in the class, with excitement building for the 2024 campaign already. In the last few months, there has been just under 10 new drivers enter the formula, which has added a lot of excellent competition on track. Teri Linden was in great form as she took a win in both heats, with Robbie Armit and Lee McGill finishing 2nd and 3rd in both heats. The meeting final was an excellent race, as Robbie Armit took the lead early on and held off the pack behind until the final lap of the race. Siobhan Martin would be making a move around the outside of Armit, with Armit giving her room to race – this bunched up the drivers behind with James Robertson, Gary Dean and Teri Linden all there looking to pick up the pieces. Going into turn 1 for the final time, Armit went in a little deep, which opened up the door for Gary Dean to take full advantage, and Dean wasn’t for backing out of it with the door being left open – just. Dean put his car in the gap and moved into the lead of the race, though Armit would find himself on the outside and drop down the order on the final lap. Siobhan Martin slotted in behind Dean for 2nd, and James Robertson into 3rd, with Armit finishing in 5th despite leading for the whole race other than the final lap.

The Superstox seen an extra date added for them, with 14 cars able to make the event having had an excellent season so far. Dean Johnston was in form as he swept to a hat-trick of race victories on the night. Mark Brady would be grateful to come away without any damage, given he has had a lot of bad luck throughout the year, and rounded off the evening with a well earned 2nd place in the meeting final, finishing ahead of Kenny McKenzie and Ciaran Adams. Natalie Mason made an outing in the Connor Mason car, with Connor on the sidelines.

The National Hot Rods seen a couple of late cancellations, but did also see Alan Kirkaldy make his debut in the formula – and a winning debut it was, with the 795 pilot taking victory in the opening race – by the narrowest of margins to Gordon Alexander. Alexander would go on to take victories in the remaining races though, taking a heat and final double for his efforts. Ian Donaldson and Marc Spence both were in attendance, and the pair had some good close racing throughout the night.

The 2.0 Hot Rods welcomed Chevy Mills north of the border, with the Englishman enjoying his visit, taking away a race win and a couple of runner up spots. Kieth Brown took victory in a heat, as well as the meeting final as he wrapped up the track points championship in the process.

We are back in action this Friday, 7pm.
