The weather did it’s utmost to put a dampner on the racing at Lochgelly Raceway on Friday night, but all three formula put in a good showing, with some great battles in all races despite the conditions.
The Superstox were a little down on numbers with a couple of no-shows from drivers, however, the rain certainly levelled the pack out somewhat, with some great performances from some of the lower graded drivers. Keith Brown, starting from yellow grade, made an outing in the Bryan Forrest car, and took a win in the opening heat of the night, fighting off an excellent Adam Low who at one stage, looked to have the beating of Brown. Heat 2 of the night seen Low again put in a solid performance, though, there would be no matching Dean Johnston who run away with things in the race. Low held his own though as he overcame Brown and held off Aaron Riddell in the process as he took away another second place finish. The meeting final again seen Dean Johnston come out on top, however, a gallant performance from Ciaran Adams seen Johnston kept honest for the best part of the race as Adams seem to be able to keep in touch with the Superstox superstar. Riddell, Brown and McKenzie meanwhile all battled it out for third position, with Riddell managing to overcome Brown to take third place.
The CC Rods seen a good field of cars on track, with just under 20 drivers on the night. Brian Allen made a return to the formula, making his first appearance of the season in the CC Rod. Dexter was straight on it, and stormed to a remarkably comfortable race win in the opening heat of the night- finishing almost half a lap clear of Lee Scott in second place. Heat 2 seen another great race from the non-contact class, with multiple battles around the raceway as the cars tip-toed around the sodden track. James Dickie would be the driver that came out on top as he took another win in what has been a great start to his CC Rod career. Graham Campbell took a fine second place, with Lee Scott completing the top three. The final would see the cars lined up in points order from the heats, with Dickie and Scott on the front row. Dickie got an excellent start and pulled off into the lead of the race, and again, into the distance with only back markers to overcome on his route to victory. Lee Scott held off Graham Campbell and Raymond Brown to take second place, with Campbell hanging onto third ahead of Brown.
The 1300 Stock Cars completed the evening, with another great performance. Despite the conditions, the bumpers flew in throughout the night as the star graded drivers found it difficult to make a mark on some of the quicker lower graded drivers. Maud based drivers, Ally Strachan and Cameron Innes both took race wins in the heats, before superstar Fraser Clark took the victory in the final race of the night – holding off a last lap attempt from Danny Whyte. There was great performances from Dean Abercrombie and Darren Rae as well, with both drivers showing they have what it takes to perform in the formula, whilst James Mellin put in an entertaining performance in the HRD hire car!
