A night of racing that had a bit of everything, and certainly kept the crowd entertained and the officials on their toes!!
The ProStocks were the headline formula, as they raced for their 2022 World Cup. A disappointing amount of drivers failed to turn up despite booking in to race - something that may need to be addressed in the future. However, there was an excellent race to unfold as the formula raced for their biggest race of the year. Reigning champion Ian Christie would have his work cut out, after pulling last place from the gridded numbers. Ryan Martin and Becki Ritchie both looked to be challenging early on, alongside John Mason. Mason and Ritchie both dropped back through the field however, as the recently crowned Scottish Champion Ryan Martin opened up a gap at the front of the pack. Ian Christie had driven excellently to find himself in second place, and chasing the leader down. The gap was pretty consistent through the majority of the race, but was narrowing - with Christie finding himself close enough to make contact in the closing laps, following a slight error by leader Ryan Martin. Christie did not wait on a second invite - with just over 1 lap remaining, Christie took his opportunity and put in a hit onto the Ryan Martin car to take the lead of the race - Martin held on to take second, with Tam Melrose finishing just behind in third place. Christie was delighted with the win as he punched the air in delight, before celebrating on the roof of his car! Scott Gardner and Gavin Ritchie would take the wins in the following heats. Christie now moves to the top of the National Points championship with less than a handful of meetings remaining in 2022.. Can he take the silver too?
The National Hot Rods competed in the latest of the Scottish World Qualifying Series Rounds - with a meeting final tyre sponsored by Precision Engine Services. Heat 1 would see a great race as the drivers jostled for position throughout - and it would be William Hardie that took the opening race win - ahead of Ross McWilliam and John Sibbald. Heat 2 would be a dramatic affair!! Marc Spence would find himself defending from some of the sports top drivers - William Hardie, Ross McWilliam and John Sibbald with the four cars very closely bunched together. As the laps progressed, a few errors creeped in, Ross McWilliam found his way through, but was penalised for contact in doing so, and Spence found himself running wide into turn 3, opening the door for the incoming John Sibbald car. Contact was made between the two, and Spence found himself sideways, with his front end clipping the passing William Hardie car. Spence would find his car snap across and into the wall, resulting in a race stoppage. McWilliam crossed the line in first, but it would be John Sibbald that would take the win. The meeting final seen McWilliam make amends as he swept to a comfortable race win, with Sibbald and Hardie completing the top three. Hardie had to battle hard to retain third place, with James Mooney challenging for much of the race.
The Superstox had another night of good racing, with little damage to report for the drivers, which will hopefully see the majority of them take to the track this coming weekend again. Paul Mackie had an excellent night - his best since returning to action at least. Leading the way in each of the races for large proportions of the race would be a missive confidence boost to the 219 pilot. Aaron Riddell, Dean Johnston and Bryan Forrest were all in great form though, with great pace throughout the night from each of them meaning they trio topped the top three positions in each of the three races on the night. Adam Low performed well, despite being less than 100% well following a bout of illness in the run up to the event. Riddell would take the opening heat win, with Johnston taking a heat and final double thereafter.
The CC Rods had another great meeting - although, there were a few talking points for the wrong reasons as well!! Heat 1 would see Benjamin Erskine and Callum Elliot tangle into turn 3, with Elliot being up the inside of Erskine, with contact then occurring between the two cars. As the cars exited turn 4, Erskine found himself out of shape and with Elliot passing on the inside, the 419 car snapped across the track as the driver tried to keep it out of the wall, resulting in contact being made with the rear quarter of the 98 car. This spun the 98 car around as the drivers entered the final lap. Elliot found himself pointing the wrong way as the checkered flag was brought out for the race winner Jack Robertson. Although it was a racing incident, 419 was found to be of blame and as such, was disqualified for his part in the coming together.. Hopefully an end to the matter for all concerned! Heat 2 would see another coming together between two drivers - Mirran Adams and Shane Allen. Adams found herself challenging the Allen car throughout the race, but was unable to find a way passed, though a gap did appear midway through the race and Mirran duly went for it, only to find herself take a trip to the infield as a result. The 28 car of Adams was damage free and she re-joined a lap or two later, and took a pop shot at the Allen car. A few words with each of the drivers would find their evenings cut short. Jack Robertson would again cross the line in first, but would be penalised for contact and James Robertson would inherit the race win. James Robertson would also take the win in the final, which will see him move upto blue grade for the next meeting, whilst Lee Scott closed the gap at the top of the points charts for his efforts!
The Ministox were the final formula in action, and as always, put on an excellent showing of racing. The youngsters kicked off the evening with the JusBounce sponsored whites and yellows series race - Dean Heeps taking an excellent race win ahead of Hamish Plenderleith and Rhys Kelly. Heat 1 of the night seen Heeps take another win - snatching it from Kerr Paterson in the closing laps, with Paterson finishing in second and Kelly in third. Sam Cavanagh took a well deserved race win in heat 2, with Charlie Burgoyne also taking an excellent second position, with Robbie Armit finishing in third. The meeting final seen another lively race, with Lewis Burgoyne taking a well earned victory - Sam Cavanagh in second, and Jay Carruthers in third place!
