The Ninja Karts took centre stage at the weekend as they battled it out for their 2022 Scottish Championship. An out the hat grid draw for heat 1 would see the grids mixed up outwith the normal graded order. Stuart Shevill found himself leading the way, but it wasn’t all straight forward, as he was under pressure on a greasy track from Connor Anderson behind for much of the race. Shevill did take the win ahead of Anderson, with Tommy Melrose completing the top three ahead of Katie Lee Smart. Heat 2 would see the grid reversed from heat 1. Dougie Kidd found himself taking the lead of the race early on and never looked like being caught. Dougie read the race perfectly and managed his pace accordingly and carefully navigated the back markers that would come upon him. Stuart Shevill Jnr battled through to finish in second place, which would put him on pole position for the Scottish Championship, and Rayah Burns finishing in third position. The Scottish Championship seen Shevill and Kidd line up on the front row of the grid. As the green flag dropped, it was Shevill that got away first and into the lead of the race, with Kidd dropping in behind in second place. However, Shevill went in too hard into turn 3 and opened up the door for Kidd to take the lead. Kidd and Shevill were evenly matched for much of the race, with Katie Lee Smart getting in on the mix as well as the lead two battled it out and manouvered around the traffic. Shevill would find himself spin out in the latter part of the race, dropping him down the order. Kidd still had Katie Lee Smart for company though, and Katie Lee kept him honest until she came up behind the back marker of Blair Innes. Katie Lee hesitated as she approached him allowing Kidd to open up the gap, and Smart making a decision to go to the inside mid corner, and coming together with the 132 car as a result. Kidd would go on to take the Scottish Championship, with Smart crossing the line in second and Tommy Melrose in third. Layton Cairns would take the top white and yellow award, courtesy of Team Duffy.

The Junior Productions provided another excellent night of racing, with a few unfortunate incidents throughout the evening. Heat 1 would see Aiden McKinnon, James Slater and Olivia Krzyzanowska in close contention going into turn 1, with some contact resulting in Olivia spinning and backing up against the armco. As the race progressed, several laps later, Declan Dixon would be caught up with another car with both drivers going towards the armco where the stranded 899 car was, resulting in a yellow flag stoppage. The race got underway again, with Dale Sutherland leading the pack, and doing superb to hang onto the race win ahead of the in-form Jack Baird. Heat 2 of the evening would see Jack MacLeod take a much deserved race win – coming from the red grade and racing excellently through to the lead of the race. Baird again finished in second, with Koddi Wright rounding out the top three. The meeting final would see Jack Baird take a much deserved race win, following an excellent night for the youngster, though the race would see only the first few cars cross the line following an incident on the last lap of the race. Hollie Ritchie would find herself hitting the wall and coming to a halt on the home straight, just as the lead pack was approaching. Less than 5 second later, Baird avoided the car, as did MacLeod and Walle, swerving out the way at the last minute, but an unfortunate Lewis Duffy seen the car too late and clattered into the back of it as the yellow flag was called for.

The 1300 Stock Cars were back with us after a busy period for the formula. A few drivers missing, but there was still some great racing on track. Billy Wilson took a shot of the injured Patrick Calderwood’s car and took it to victory in the opening heat of the race, finishing ahead of Kyle Strachan. Strachan had an excellent night himself, taking away top 4 finishes in each of the three races as he continues to find his feet in the formula. National Points Champion Kyle Hegg was in the mood, and his car was on song too – taking a heat and final double for his efforts, before heading south straight after the racing. Craig Haxton looked to be back to his best as well, as he took away a few strong results on the night too!

The Back 2 Basics Bangers were down on numbers, but credit must go to the drivers that turned up on the night – they put on an excellent showing, with a few wrecked cars to take home at the end of the night, much to the delight of the crowd. Dougie Kidd and Barry Innes would take race wins, with Richard Cairns taking victory in the Demolition Derby.

The 2.0 Hot Rods found James Morris in great form – taking a heat and final win on the night in what was the final meeting ahead of their Scottish championship event in a couple of weeks. Jason Secker took a win in the second heat of the night too – his first in his new car as he continues to get to grips with it, and get it to his liking.

We are back in action this Saturday night, as the ProStocks race for their World Cup, whilst the National Hot Rods, Superstox, Ministox and CC Rods all also feature.
