Henry at the double in chaotic 1300 stock cars
It was a very lively Saturday night at Lochgelly Raceway, with the 1300 Stock Cars putting on an incredible showing, with all three races full of action! The Junior Productions, Stock Rods and National Hot Rods all put on a good showing too, in what was arguably the domestic meeting of the season so far!

The Stock Rods kicked off the evening with their opening heat of the night, with Patrick Calderwood, Brett Sneddon and Harvey Sneddon making their first outings of the season. The Stock Rods numbers are picking up nicely as the season progresses, with just under 25 Scottish based drivers having taken to the track this year already, with more still to come! With the World Championship taking place in August, and an array of major championships to qualify for, every point matters more this season than ever. Stewart Aitken reverted back to number 78 in the formula, and in a recently acquired car, things couldn’t have gotten off to a better start as he took the race win, holding off Siobhan Martin. Patrick Calderwood would have no such luck though, as he retired to the infield early in the race, only to be collected by an on-coming out of control car causing enough damage to end his night! Brett Sneddon is never slow around Lochgelly Raceway, and as he looks to get upto speed, he chose to start from the rear of the grid on his return to racing. Coming through a tough grid of cars is never easy, but Brett brought his car him in the top 5 in heat 1. Jack MacLeod crossed the line in third, but was demoted down to fifth after perceived contact with Raymond Brown mid-way through the race. James Robertson was also punished in the race, having cut the nose off of Callum Elliot and forcing Elliot onto the kerb as a result. Heat 2 of the night seen another great race, as some of the top drivers struggled to make their way through the field, resulting in a lower grade dominance in the results. A sterling effort mid-pack from the likes of Shane Allen and Kyle Hutchison, would keep David Crichton, Siobhan Martin and Gary Dean at bay for much of the race. This would see the gap open up ahead, with Ian Christie leading home Raymond Brown and Callum Elliot. National Point Champion Siobhan Martin was penalized for a jump start at the beginning of the race. The final race of the night would see the final gridded based upon points scored in the two previous heats, with Raymond Brown putting his car on pole position. Ian Christie would find himself spun out of contention early on, with James Robertson deemed to be the culprit. Jack MacLeod soon found himself in front, ahead of Siobhan Martin, and a great battle ensued thereafter. Siobhan got the move completed on the 555 car, and looked set for victory, however, MacLeod wouldn’t give up, and caught up with the National Points Champion in the closing stages again as she came across a battle amongst back markers. On the final lap of the race, MacLeod would put his car on the outside of Martin and made the move, crossing the line narrowly ahead of Siobhan to take a dramatic race win.

The 1300 Stock Cars seen 25 cars take to the track, and despite the challenging conditions, they drivers put on an immense showing. From the outset, the bumpers would fly in, with drivers racing, three, four wide at times, in groups of 6-8 cars. There would be no driver breaking clear of the charging pack – outwith Charlie Henry, who ran away with a heat and final double for her efforts. Heat 1 would see Northern Irish visitor Chris Hamill take victory in a race that seen a few cars come off track worse for wear, including that of Jamie Stewart. Heat 2 would be another brilliant battle, with Henry racing clear of the pack behind. The battle for second place though, was intense – Hamill, Clark, Rae, Hegg, Gordon and Gold were all in amongst the action. Lap after laps, the positions swapped around, cars battered the armco fencing, sparks would fly. It would be Hamill though, that came out ahead of the bunch, taking the first of his two second place finishes. The meeting final seen Chris Gold and Samuel Douglas continuing a night long battle, with the pair exchanging blows on several occasions, William Stawiarski jostled with both Kyle and Ally Strachan, with the trio giving each other a good as they got. National Points Champion Kyle Hegg would find himself hard against the barrier in turn 1, stuck there with Liam Santry in tow, dropping them both down the order as a result. Henry took victory ahead of Hamill, with Luke Gordan taking a respectable third place finish. With the Spedeworth TV 1300 Stock Car European Championship just around the corner (3rd and 4th June), that is shaping up to be an entertaining weekend of racing!

The Junior Productions, like the 1300 Stock Cars, also seen 25 cars taking to the track in difficult conditions. It was a farewell appearance from Leona Anderson, who moves on from the formula after this event. Three different winners on the night, all going the way of lower graded drivers, would be a telling story of how the night went. Large packs of cars of varying abilities, would make overtaking a challenge, even for the most experienced drivers. It was a case of just keeping the car pointing the correct direction, and looking to pick up as many points as possible for those coming from the rear of the grid. Abe Adams will have left the track cursing his luck, having looked set to take a couple of race victories on the night, after looking comfortable up front in at least 2 of the races, only to be thwarted by car difficulties, as his car slowed down in the closing stages of the races. Lewis Duffy claimed a race win in heat 1, inheriting the race victory following a docking of 112 Jack Baird, who was deemed to have made contact and gained an advantage on the 49 car early in the race. Callahan Bremner took victory in heat 2, after Kaitlyn Smart was docked for jumping the original race start. Smart would get a victory though, as she herself claimed the race win in the meeting final, after Jack Baird was docked for contact on her as he overtook her going into turn 3 in the latter stages of the race. It was a terrific showing from the youngsters overall though, as they all proved that they can race respectfully even with a large among of cars on track.

The National Hot Rods competed in their latest round of World Qualifying events, with round 10 sponsored by DD Motor Services. William Hardie took the race win in heat 1 ahead of James Mooney, whilst John Sibbald took victory in heat 2 ahead of Hardie. The meeting final would see Hardie and Sibbald take the top two places as well, with Sibbald having to fight of a stern challenge from Gordon Alexander for the majority of the race.

We are back in action on Friday (12th May) for more great stock car racing. The 1300 Stock Cars are with us, alongside the ORCi Ministox and CC Rods. 7pm start time!
