Saturday 24th April seen five formula take to the track with some excellent racing on offer throughout the evening.
The National Hot Rods were in action for the 2nd time in their current World Qualifying Campaign and there was some super close racing throughout – Ethan Doull made his first outing having missed out last time out, and got his campaign off to the best possible start with a superb hat trick of race wins. Behind him, the positions varied, with Gordon Alexander, James Robertson, Ross McWilliam and Darren Scott all battling closely in each of the three races. Derek Connor struggled somewhat having been moved up to red grade, whilst James Mooney was a welcome attendee.
The Junior Productions provided excellent racing throughout the night with close on 20 youngsters taking to the track. The non-contact formula seen the drivers race wheel to wheel and bumper to bumper excellently throughout the night, with a lot of respect shown between all of the drivers. The meeting didn’t go without incident, however, the racing standards were generally very good in all three races. It was refreshing to see Billie-Summer Glen unphased by her accident last weekend, and was back out with a point to prove, racing to a heat and final double on the night – a massive confidence boost to the youngster. Dale Sutherland has been in a rich vein of form of late, and took another race win on Saturday, alongside a podium place in the opening heat. Leeland Dearn hasn’t had an easy start to life in the Junior Production class, having been caught up in a few incidents in his short time in the class, however, a brilliant drive in the meeting final seen him come away with a well deserved 2nd place finish. There was a lot of lower graded drivers at the front end of things on Saturday, with Nicole Innes and Jayden Barrie also coming away with some good results.
The 2.0 Hot Rod formula was with us for the 2nd week in succession, with Keith Chesher making an outing in the ex Chevy Mills car, racing as the unfamiliar 389 number. Charlie Hardie continued his good start to life in the 2.0 Hot Rod formula with 2 further race wins in the heats, before Allan Gibson got the better of the starts in the meeting final and got his way into the lead. Frankie Cunningham and Keith Brown also followed through, whilst Mark Dews tried on numerous occasions to go round the outside of Hardie but couldn’t make a move stick. Cunningham and Brown raced closely together throughout the race, but with little between the pair, it was to finish in the same order.
The Superstox class welcomed Eric Walker north of the border, making his first visit since the British Championship in June. Jordan Black looks to have found comfort in his recently acquired car, and its starting to reep the rewards for the investment with some excellent results. 2 runners up spots on Saturday will see him move up the rankings. There would be no stopping Aaron Riddell though, who continues his impressive streak having acquired the ex Green car a couple of months ago. Riddell raced to a hat-trick of victories once more, whilst the likes of Kenny McKenzie, Adam Low and Josh Duff raced for the places behind.
The ProStocks were the final formula in attendance, a late replacement for the 2.0 Bangers. The ProStocks seen Dean McGill make his first appearance of the season in the class, and he was straight into the mix of things. McGill and Paul Barron, with Grady Ross also in the mix, all had some epic battles throughout the night, with a lot of pushing, shuving and hitting going on in each of the three races. Lewis Gilchrist took the victory in the opening race before his engine let go in heat 2. Chris Mack went onto claim victory in the heat and final, which will see him move up to a blue grade as a result.
