Shevill Claims Marshals Shield
Saturday 5th April seen some fast and exciting stock car racing at HRP Lochgelly Raceway, with the U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Car lap record being broken by 188 Jamie Stewart in the process.

The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars were in good form, with a few drivers making their first outings of the season – Kyle Roberts, Steven Gold & Kevin Graham with Graham stepping up from the Ministox formula just a few days prior to the event. Charlie Henry made her second outing of the year at HRP, and showed great pace on the night, taking a heat win in the process, and was perhaps a tad unfortunate not to come away with more than that having led the way in further races too. Kyle Roberts took a race win in the opening heat as he hit the ground running, whilst formula debutant, Kevin Graham had a successful night too. Graham was on the pace in each of the races, and was in the mix to win all three at stages, though would have been delighted with how he performed overall. Further back, Fraser Clark had a difficult night as he struggled to make progress on many of the quick lower graded drivers. Joshua Machin looks to be enjoying himself on track too – getting stuck in to good effect, and coming away with good results early in the season – taking away too top 3 finishes on Saturday for his efforts. Brant West was arguably the driver of the meeting though – Brant has established himself as one of the front running drivers and has made a few tweaks to his car over the opening month of the season, getting more speed and consistency as a result. Brant crossed the line in first in the meeting final, but was deemed to have jumped that start, knocking him down to third, with World Champion Darren Rae inheriting the race win.

The ProStock formula was in great form, with just under 25 cars taking to the track – quite possibly the most the formula has seen at a domestic event in a few years. Lee Kopacz, Lewis Gilchrist and Dean McGill were three drivers to make their first outings of the year in the formula. Heat 1 seen the drivers put in an excellent showing of racing – hard, fast, and competitive – with Dean McGill taking the first of his three wins, whilst Lee Kopacz and Paul Barron completed the top 3. Abbie Whyte found herself come away with some damage, after a lunge from Kai McNulty on Dean McGill failed, with McNulty collecting the already spun Whyte car – putting an end to both drivers evenings racing. McGill took heat two ahead of Ian Christie and Dougie Kidd, with Lewis Gilchrist and Ryan Martin finished second and third respectively in the meeting final behind the McGill car.

The 2.0 Hot Rods were on track, with some close fast racing, and a yellow flag in the second heat seeing the drivers try out the 2 abreast starts, with Mark Dews making a move to the outside early on. Charlie Hardie took the win in the opening heat, before a DNF in heat 2 after a suspension failure seen him career into the wall, bringing out the aforementioned race caution. Heat 2 seen the caution close up the grid, and provide some exciting racing as the drivers raced bumper to bumper, as they looked to overcome Craig Mason, who held on well before the field moved through. Jack MacLeod would take the win, with Dews finishing in second. The meeting final seen Hardie, Allan Gibson and MacLeod finish in the podium places.

The youngsters in the ORCi Ministox seen just under 20 cars take to the track, with a debut for Jayden Roff on the night. Charlie Weston had hoped to make his debut too, however, engine problems in practice meant he didn’t take any green flags on the night. The youngsters were in excellent form – Rhys Anderson, Stuart Shevill, Jayden Roff and Jack Jones, all regularly battling it out at the front of the grid. Roff took a fine victory in the opening heat, before Anderson took victory in heat 2. A closed grid for the meeting final seen an eventful first lap, with Jack Jones found pointing the wrong way on turn 1 and collecting some damage. A full restart being called for, with the drivers re-gridding for a second attempt. Shevill Jnr got away best, and soon opened up a gap behind, whilst the rest of the pack battled hard for positions – David Philp Jnr, Shay Page, Ollie Sime and the afore mentioned Anderson, were all in a battle allowing Shaun Boyle to join in too! As the race settled, Philp moved into second place but was unable to chase down the flying Shevill car. Shevill would take the win to claim the HRP Marshals Shield, Philp 2nd and Anderson 3rd.

The National Hot Rods completed the line up, with Derek Connor becoming the third driver of the season to claim a hat-trick of race wins in the formula!!

We are back in action on Saturday 12th April, with the Rookie Bangers, CC Rods, Superstox, Junior Productions and Scrapco Metal Recycling Ninja Karts in action, with the racing getting underway at 5.30pm.
