It was another fast paced night of racing on Friday at Lochgelly Raceway.
Three formula took to the track as the penultimate meeting of the first half of the season took place, with the Junior Productions, CC Rods and 1300 Stock Cars being the chosen three.
The Junior Productions were with us for the first time since their eventful event at the beginning of June, and with around 20 cars taking to the track on Friday, the youngsters provided good racing throughout the night, with all round better standards than the previous outing. Keira Wotherspoon bowed out of the formula as she reaches retirement age ahead of the next event. There were a few niggles and coming togethers throughout the evening, but on a whole, the racing was fast and clean, with the drivers giving each other respect on track, with majority of incidents coming through inexperience and lack of awareness on track. Heat 1 of the night would see a number of drivers continue to push their luck, but with a number of dockings, things improved thereafter. There were some good showings from a number of the lesser featured drivers on track – Billy-Summer Glen and Nicole Innes, both novices this season, had their best meetings to date in the formula, with Billy-Glen picking up some good results for her efforts. Aiden Duffy, another driver that was a novice at the beginning of the season has picked up steadily, and capped off a good night with a win. Lewis Dickson and Callahan Bremner both showed confidence on track, with both drivers having what could be their best meetings of the season to date. Koddi Wright would be the dominant driver on the night however, racing to victory in the opening heat having inherited victory from the docked Hollie Ritchie, as well as in the meeting final. Koddi and Jase Walle are two drivers at the top of their game, with both regularly topping the points charts after each meeting. On track, there is never much between the two drivers, with both often following one another through the field of cars. Kaitlyn Smart recovered from a disappointing meeting at the beginning of the month, to come away with a good haul of points, and a third place finish in the meeting final. Connie Anderson, Hollie Ritchie and William Plenderleith all also had steady meetings with some good results for their efforts. Next up for the Junior Productions, is their KN Transport sponsored British Championship event here at Lochgelly on the 15th July.
The 1300 Stock Cars were back to domestic action following their fantastic Spedeworth TV European Championship at the beginning of June. Just under 20 cars took to the track, with Mitch Gold making a return to action in the Chris Gold car. Craig Haxton was also with us having missed out on the European meeting due to work commitments. Michael Stewart continues to grow in confidence in the 1300 Stock Cars, and led for the majority of the second heat, only losing out in the closing laps to the fast charging Fraser Clark, finishing in second place. The same result as he had in the opening heat, as he followed the returning Mitch Gold over the line. Stevie Bissett made a return to racing following his eventful European Championship that seen flames come from his car! The team have obviously cured those issues, and managed to get the car back on track. Mike Courts took victory in the meeting final, ahead of Mitch Gold and Craig Haxton.
The CC Rods were the final formula to take to the track on Friday night, and the opening race seen a few small incidents that seen a coupe of drivers acquire some penalty points! Ian Christie continued his good run of form at Lochgelly Raceway, with a win in the opening race of the night with Gary Nicholls following him across the line in second place. Lee Scott would be penalized for a jump start and would move from 3rd to 5th. Craig Mason, having an outing in the Scott Ewans car, found himself penalized for spinning Kenny Pitcaithly around. Ryan Love, likewise, for contact on Natalie Mason. Following the penalties, Steven Adair would move up into third place. Heat 2 would see Craig Mason race to victory, as he led home Kenny Pitcaithly. Gary Nicholls would cross the line in third place, but would find himself demoted following contact with Steven Adair, promoting Lee Scott up into third position. The meeting final seen all the drivers behave well, with some good racing as a result. Gary Nicholls finding the grip to move around Lee Scott into the lead early on, before Lee Scott and Ian Christie both had an excellent race, with Kevin Hutchison also in the mix waiting on a slip up. Scott would clip the kerb into turn 3, resulting in a puncture. This enabled Christie and Hutchison to move through, with Scott dropping down the order as a result.
We are back at Lochgelly this Saturday (24th June) for the final time in the first half of the season, and we return on the 15th July.
