It was a fast and furious night of excellent stock car racing at Lochgelly Raceway on Saturday 19th August, as the Junior Production formula took centre stage as they raced for their 2023 Direct Car Care Scottish Championship.

The drivers were in excellent form, as over 20 cars took to the track in each of the three races. Two reverse grid heats would determine the grid for the Scottish Championship race, with the drivers pulling a number from the hat prior to the meeting to determine their starting position in the opening heat. As had been predicted, the racing was fast and there was a large number of drivers on the pace, making for some exciting racing throughout the evening. Heat 1 seen Aiden McKinnon lead the way in the early stages, with Kaden Connor keeping tabs for a number of laps, before Kaden got caught up in back marker traffic allowing the pack behind to close in and take advantage. A race caution would be called for to recover the stricken Candice Smart car, bunching the pack up. Lewis Duffy led the race at the restart, with Baillie Glencross behind and Koddi Wright and Hollie Ritchie behind her. Glencross soon moved into the lead, and Wright and Ritchie were soon challenging Duffy, Wright managed to get ahead, with Ritchie losing some ground in the process, dropping her back into the clutches of Kaden Connor and William Plenderleith. Glencross opened up a lead at the front of the race, with Wright defending from Connor and Duffy behind in the closing stages. It was Baillie Glencross that would reign victorious in that race. At the other end of the spectrum, their was despair for Aiden McKinnon who lost the lead of the race having acquired a puncture, forcing him into retirement just before the race caution early in the race. Koddi Wright brought his car across the line in second place, with a number of the lesser experienced drivers crossing the line behind – Lewis Duffy, Kaden Connor and William Plenderleith completing the top 5. The grid was reversed for heat 2, with another fantastic race from the youngsters. Lewis Dickson and Aiden Duffy started at the front for heat 2. Dickson moved into the lead of the race from the outset. A few laps into the race, Duffy would be challenged by Connor St Auybn, Dale Sutherland and Connie Anderson. A coming together between a few cars midway into the race, would see Brooke McMullan and Kaden Connor spin out of contention onto the infield. Callum Ritchie would later see himself spun around courtesy of Dale Sutherland. Meanwhile Lewis Dickson continued to lead the way ahead of Connie Anderson and Connor St Aubyn. St Aubyn would become unstuck though, and a coming together with Nicole Innes seen the yellow flags called for, with Innes stranded across the track. Lewis Dickson soon had his lead diminished. Dickson led off at the restart with Anderson, St Aubyn and Plenderleith just behind. The local youngster held his nerve though, and begun to open up a gap, lap upon lap, as the others battled behind. Dickson would take victory ahead of Anderson, with Plenderleith, Wright and Liam Loggie completing the top 5. The points would be tallied up, and the front of the Scottish Championship grid would see Koddi Wright and William Plenderleith start on the front row, with Lewis Dickson and Connie Anderson on row 2, and Lewis Duffy and Hollie Ritchie on row 3. As the green flag dropped, the youngsters made a perfect start, maintaining the gaps between the groups, and the race got underway without fault. Wright defended his inside line to move into the lead of the race, with Plenderleith dropping in behind in 2nd. Connie Anderson, Hollie Ritchie, Lewis Dickson and Lewis Duffy all got into a fantastic race behind. Anderson soon opened up a gap to those behind, and closed down Plenderleith in 2nd . Wright meanwhile, continued to open up the lead at the front of the pack, with Plenderleith and Anderson battling for 2nd place. Duffy, Dickson and Ritchie battled for 4th, with Liam Loggie closing in as well. Aiden McKinnon was making good progress from nearer the back of the grid following his DNF in heat 1, as he moved up into the top 10. The two Lewis’, Dickson and Duffy were in an epic battle for fourth place, with nothing between the drivers for much of the 2nd half of the race. Dickson moved ahead through the traffic, in the closing laps, despite Duffy’s best efforts to keep him at bay – there was nothing between them as they crossed the line in fourth and fifth positions. Wright retained his Scottish Championship title, with William Plenderleith finishing 2nd and Connie Anderson 3rd.

The CC Rods were in action for the second time this month, and credit must go to a number of the drivers on managing to repair their cars after some damage at the last outing. Jamies Dickie, one of the drivers to sustain some damage last time out, had his car looking as good as new, and took it to a double heat victory in the process, having narrowly missed out on a hat trick thanks to a brilliant overtaking maneuver by Ian Christie in the meeting final. Ryan Love will be happy with his performance, and will be grateful for a turn of luck, as he took away top 5 finishes in all three races. Heat 1 seen Dickie take the win ahead of Brian Allen and Ryan Love. Heat 2 seen Dickie again take the win, this time ahead of Gregor Whyte and Ian Christie. The meeting final was a fantastic race, with the lead two drivers putting on an excellent showing for the majority of the race. With damp patches around the raceway, overtaking was never going to be simple, but both Ian Christie and James Dickie gave each other respect and room to race, with Dickie holding the inside line for much of the race, whilst Ian Christie tried to make a move stick around the outside – and it wasn’t until the last lap that he finally got his nose in front to take the win ahead of Dickie, with Ryan Love finishing in third.

The 2.0 Hot Rods were with us for the first of two successive weekends of racing – with the formula being with us on Saturday night too, as a support formula in the double World Championship event. The formula served up some great racing, with Keith Brown looking quickest of all on the night. Ethan Doull made the most of starting from the yellow grade, as he took victory in the opening heat, with fellow yellow graded driver, Kerr Paterson taking victory in the 2nd heat, as the star graded drivers struggled to overcome much of the drivers starting ahead of them. Gerry Hendry was another driver in good form on the night, as he took another couple of 2nd place finishes – one in the opening heat following the docking of Keith Brown, and again in the meeting final. Keith Brown took victory in the meeting final ahead of Gerry Hendry and Mark Dews.

The ProStocks were the final formula in attendance, with another decent turn out from the formula. Dean McGill continues to be the dominant driver on track, as he drove to another couple of racing wins – taking the opening heat and meeting final. Gavin Ritchie is another driver that has been in good form of late, taking away a 2nd place finish in the opening heat, and winning the 2nd before being caught up in a couple of bumps in the meeting final. The meeting final itself seen a couple of great results for the lesser experienced drivers on track – Jamie George taking a runners up spot, and Lewis Gilchrist taking third position.

This weekend at Lochgelly Raceway, we have 2 non-stop days of racing. The Containers R Us Superstox World Championship AND the Stock Rod World Championship are both up for grabs. The Junior Productions and 2.0 Hot Rods provide support on the Saturday, and the 1300 Stock Cars and Ministox provide support on the Sunday. The racing gets underway at 5pm Saturday, and 12pm Sunday.
