What a weekend of racing – it was one of those that certainly had it all!

Around 200 drivers took to the track across the weekend to put in a thrilling couple of days of non stop action packed stock car and banger racing. The Junior Bangers arguably stole the show over the two days – the only formula that were in action both days, as the youngsters crashed, raced and had plenty of rollovers!

Saturday night seen the Unlimited Bangers take to the track as they raced for their 2024 Scottish Championship. For the first time in several years, it was a Scottish based driver that was victorious as Sean McConnachie took the glory in the main race after a good battle with Leonard Dunn and Ben Green. McConnachie took a further win in the first all comers race, whilst Colin Riddell took the win in the second. The DD went the way of Paul McNulty.

On Sunday, the Rookie Bangers raced for their own Scottish Championship as Korben Quinn aimed to make it three in a row. However, with 40+ cars taking to the track, it was always going to be a tough challenge, and his hopes faltered early on in the race as he found himself spun to the infield with a puncture. Dan Croskell took an early lead in the race and never looked back – taking a flag to flag victory and overcoming anyone that got in his way fairly swiftly. Behind him, Daniel Newman and Charlie Barwell had a good race for second, as the pair battled closely throughout he race with little between them much of the distance. In a race that seen numerous drivers spin out, lose laps and a lot of on track carnage, it was difficult to keep tabs on who was where at times, however, as the chequered flag fell, there were only 6 drivers that completed the race on the lead lap, with the rest at least a lap behind. Korben Quinn took the win in the first allcomers race whilst Dan Newman completed a good days racing for him with a win in the 2nd allcomers event. Keiran Whitmore was victorious in the DD that concluded the days racing.

The Junior Bangers were in action both days with around 20 youngsters participating. The formula is fast becoming one of the most entertaining south of the border and we can now understand why! The youngsters aren’t afraid to get stuck in, put in some big hits lap after lap, with the top drivers coming through from the rear of the grid in each of the races. The formula seen multiple rollovers throughout the weekend – around TEN across the two days! The youngsters shrugged it off, and got back out for the following races. Riley Holmes was the star of the show though, as he claimed top 3 race wins over the two days, with top three finishes in each of the other races. Toby Tyson, a former Ninja Kart points champion made a return to Lochgelly Raceway, and was also in impressive form, getting stuck in on occasions, whilst also claiming a race win for his efforts. Bobby Waller and Joe Harrington also claimed victories across the weekend.

The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars raced of their Craig McNicol Memorial on Sunday – an event that is held annually here at Lochgelly Raceway, and one that always draws a good race, with a lot of good prizes up for grabs. Just a few weeks away from the World Championship, nobody would have batted an eye lid if the formula were a little tamer than we have come to expect, however, that wasn’t the case at all as the drivers battled hard throughout the day, exchanged blows and provided some nail biting racing. At times we seen the cars race three and four wide, as everyone just waited on an incident! Dean Sievwright and Callum Sturrock took the wins in the heats, before Gary Nicholls claimed the victory in the McNicol memorial race ahead of Steven Gold and Darren Rae.

The Ninja Karts, ProStocks and Ministox were also in action on Saturday, with great racing from all formula. The Ministox seen Rab Scott race his last meeting in the formula here at Lochgelly, before he joins the list of retirees. Three different winners in the Ministox seen Dougie Kidd, Shay Page and ORCi Champion David Philp come away with a winners trophy. The ProStocks likewise seen three different winners – Paul Barron, Rachel Kidd and Owen Bonner take the wins. The Ninja Karts seen Ryan Love take a confidence boosting and well deserved race win in the whites and yellows race, before Rory Wilson took the win in the two heats, with Henry Hunn claiming victory in the final.

On Sunday, the Junior Productions were in action with the drivers re-graded since the last meeting. Aiden Duffy claimed victory in heat 1, benefiting from the docking of Dale Sutherland who had crossed the line first. Heat 2 seen Liam Conway take the win, and he followed that up in the final with another race win, taking him back to the yellow grade for the next event.
