Rae Claims Dramatic McNicoll Memorial Win
It was a proper night of Stock Car action on Saturday 23rd May at Lochgelly Raceway as the drivers across the formula put on an excellent showing. From the Ninja Karts to the 1600 Bangers, there was something for everyone.

The youngsters in the Ninja Karts started off the evening with their Whites and Yellows race, giving some of the lesser experienced drivers an opportunity to build confidence and get some trophies. Southern visitor, Albert Mills took the win in this race with Harley Wilson and debutant Lochie Heeps completing the top 3. The first heat of the night seen Mills once more take the win in what was turning out to be an excellent night for the youngster as the star graders battled amongst themselves struggling to make too much headway to the karts in front. Blair Innes brought his kart home in 2nd as the first of the reds, with Johnny Wheeler finishing in 3rd. Heat 2 seen the first two switch, after an excellent race between a number of karts – Innes took the win ahead of Mills and Harley Wilson finishing 3rd. The meeting final was a stop start affair with a couple of stoppages in quick succession – Closing the pack up and enabling the star graded driers to catch some of the quick front running drivers. Johnny Wheeler took the win in the final ahead of Henry Hunn – Who has secured the HRP National Points Championship, with Alfie MacLeod rounding out the top 3. Lochie Heeps took the Lothian Property Services Driver of the Meeting award after an excellent debut in the formula where he led for periods throughout the night. Alix Martin had a night to forget as she seemed to get caught up in each of the races – with some heavy damage sustained in the final race of the night for the young girl racer.

The U Pull It 1400 Stock Cars served up some brilliant racing throughout the night, but they saved the best for the Craig McNicoll Memorial Final. Heat wins went the way of Dale Sutherland and Kevin Baird as the white graded drivers looked to take some catching on the night – and the meeting final almost looked set to continue in that trend as Ryan Muirhead had a great lead in the final before a race caution scuppered his chances of a victory. The meeting final seen an epic stock car race as bumpers went in lap after lap, and after the caution, the lead swapping places lap after lap too. The front three drivers put some daylight between themselves and the pack behind, but continued to trade blows and swap places – Darren Rae, Fraser Clark and Joshua Machin – it was impossible to predict who was going to come out on top. None of the three drivers were going to allow any of the others to break away and the hits came lap after lap until the checkered flag – even into the last corner, you still didn’t know who was going to exit turn 4 in first place. Ultimately, it was Darren Rae that came out on top as he became the first driver to win the McNicoll Memorial race on more than one occasion, with Fraser Clark finishing second just ahead of Joshua Machin. Credit must go to all drivers in this one, as they all played there part in putting on a fantastic show. Thanks to the McNicoll family, friends and sponsors for ensuring a great prize pot was available for the drivers, and for allowing us to stage the event.

The Junior Bangers have always provided great racing at each of there events here at Lochgelly this year, and Saturday was no different. Despite a few cars being on the sidelines, the drivers in attendance put on a good display of racing, with bumpers going in during each of the three races. Rayah Burns made her debut in the class and didn’t’ look out of place as she finished all three races, and got quicker with each race. Dougie Kidd was the dominant driver as he took a hat-trick of race wins on the night, with Tommy Melrose and Steve Allan crossing the line 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the meeting final.

The 1600 Bangers had a few southern drivers join us, and the extra cars certainly livened things up, as the Scottish and English based drivers got stuck in and provided some excellent banger racing. Cars were being spun out, hits went in each race, and the on track racing was a joy to watch. Scott Gardner was in the mood despite a clutch problem and got stuck in at every opportunity in the opening race, hitting every car he came across, whilst Ryan Martin took the race win. Heat 2 was another entertaining affair as Ryan Martin found himself turned around and collected before getting going and putting the bumper to good effect thereafter – Luke Thompson took a well deserved win in heat 2, before Dylan Ward took the win in an excellent meeting final. Ryan Martin took the entertainer award after discovering what his front bumper was for in the 2nd half of the meeting, and didn’t give nobody a 2nd chance in the meeting final!!

The 2.0 Hot Rods completed the line up, with Robbie Armit making an outing in the William Hardie car, whilst Gary Dean made his debut in the class – though, was plagued by issues throughout the night. Charlie Hardie took the win in the opening heat, before William Buller went on to take a heat and final double. Charlie Hardie secured the HRP National Points, with Allan Gibson 2nd and William Buller taking 3rd.

Hardie Race Promotions would like to extend our gratitude to our 2026 season partners.
