It’s another exciting Saturday night to look forward to at Lochgelly Raceway, with 4 great formula in action, all offering something different!
The Ninja Karts make there 2024 season debut here at Lochgelly, and it is great to see a number of new drivers set to enter the formula, subject to them completing the necessary tests prior to the event getting underway. One such driver coming from a successful racing family is Alfie Shevill – younger brother to Stuart who has now moved into Ministox. Alfie will be looking to progress in the formula and become a force to be reckoned with over the next few years. Elodie Mackenzie and Brielle Mackenzie are also set to make their debuts – making the trek from Northern England to be with us. Adam Donnelly is the final driver currently booked to race, that looks set to make their debut. Cole and Jaxon York, along with Jack Jones make the trip north from their Spedeworth bases to join us. Jayden Roff is a regular HRP attendee from his Midlands base, and the 99 kart won’t be hard to see on track with its 2024 livery. Henry Hunn, another regular HRP attendee from his southern base, is set to join us for our opener, as he looks to mount a points challenge in 2024. Lewis Hazlett is set to make the trip across the water to be with us. A bit closer to home, we have a number of drivers that will be looking to make 2024 a season to remember as they set about racing for championships, and points charts. Rory Wilson finished the 2023 season as one of the drivers to watch, with some excellent pace and race wins along the way. Katie Lee Smart has been knocking on the door for a while, with 2023 being a steady year for the 90 pilot. She’ll be looking to hit the ground running as our season gets underway. A host of other drivers, Tommy Melrose, Jayden Jeffrey, Blair Innes, Sophia Allan, Louie Hendry, Jamie Balfour, Ryan Love, Mathew McIntyre, Christopher Lattka, Alfie MacLeod and Rayah Burns will all be looking to take away victories on Saturday night in what looks set to be one of the most open and competitive campaigns in a number of years.
The National Hot Rods are with us in their 9th World Championship qualifying event of the campaign. Gordon Alexander has been in great form of late, but there was nobody getting near Ethan Doull last time out in the wet conditions. Ethan will be doing a rain dance come the weekend, as he hopes for another wet outing! Ross McWilliam has been a steady challenger, and is keen to get the points on the board as he looks to qualify for the World Championship in July. With it being the final event for the formula ahead of the 2024 David Philp Commercials European Championship on the 13th and 14th April, we may see a few visiting drivers as they look to fine tune their setup to give them the best chance of success come April.
The 2.0 Hot Rods are back with us once more, and it is good to see the numbers picking up from a disappointing first event of the year at the beginning of the month. A few more drivers now have their cars ready to race, and are set to make their first outings of the year. Mark Dews, Ryan Dunbar and Craig Mason all hope to be in action. Frankie Cunningham and Keith Brown had some great battles last time out, and the pair will be looking to take away some more wins between them this weekend. However, in hot rod racing, we can always expect the unexpected, with overtaking often difficult – it could give the chance for some of the lower graded drivers to get a clear track, and perhaps a victory in the process. Mark Dews is always a front runner here at Lochgelly Raceway, and will be hoping for a consistent 2024 campaign. Chevy Mills is set to join us once more – the Englishman took away a race win on his last appearance here at Lochgelly late in 2023.. Can he repeat that this weekend?
The U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars have started the season off in excellent form – a late call up last week seen reduced numbers, but still some excellent racing. It is back to normality this weekend, and we can expect the sparks to fly, with just under 30 cars currently booked to race. The star graded drivers will certainly have their work cut out, as they look to catch some of the quick lower graded drivers. Jake Wilson took two wins from white last week, which will see him move up to yellow for this weekend. Kai McNulty and Stuart Hall, both racing from white, will be difficult to catch with the pair of them both showing good pace, and no fear when it comes to getting stuck in as well. Ryan Muirhead is looking to make his first outing of the season, as is Kyle Strachan. With a few more drivers expected to book in, we may well see 30 cars take to the track come Saturday evening!
The drivers sign in office will open at 2.30pm, whilst practice will get underway at 4.00pm. The drivers sign in office will close 30 miniutes before the first race.Drivers are reminded that they are responsible for leaving a tidy pit area, utilizing the bins provided, or taking rubbish away with them. Any teams found to be leaving their pit area untidy, will be fined and possibly banned from attending race meetings. The spectator gates will open at 3.30pm, with trackside parking only available on a first come first served basis. High sided vehicles are requested to park on the upper level, and the far end of the middle level, so not to obstruct views of those behind them.
