Southern Invasion In Rookie Bangers Southern Invasion In Rookie Bangers
Saturday 16th March will see the Rookie Bangers headline the event, as they make their 2024 season debut. The 1600 Rookie Bangers have been a massive hit in England over the last few years, with numbers continuing to grow in the north of the country too. It is anticipated, that the 1600s will become one of the top formula here at HRP Lochgelly Raceway over the coming years, as we aim to grow the formula. With almost 20 drivers currently booked to race, one of the largest turnouts for a domestic event in quite some time, we are hopeful that we will see some fantastic racing across the night, with plenty of on track action! Three races will be held on the night, with an entertainer award being given out on the night to the driver that provides some of the best entertainment on the night – whether it be persistent getting in the way, causing chaos, or for some big hits, that will be determined on the night. Bonus points and a cash prize are available for the winner of this award.

On track, we have a number of Scottish based drivers, with a good number of drivers making the trip from south of the border too. Long distance travellers include Ashley Rumary and Kieren Tweed, with both drivers travelling in excess of 6 hours to be with us this weekend. Dylan Ward won the points championship for 2022-23 in the rookies, and he will be looking to get some good points on the board to start of his defense of the title. Paul Barron is set to make an appearance in the class, and we have no doubt he will look to get stuck in, as he has done in previous banger events here at HRP. 1300 Stock Car driver, Jake Wilson is another who is set to make his banger racing debut. Wilson hasn’t been shy in mixing it in the 1300s so far, but will he be willing to get stuck in in the bangers? Only time will tell! Jamie Wedgwood, Gavin Taylor, Danny McMullan and Michael Turner have all been fairly regular attendees to Lochgelly in the 1600 class, and are all set to be with us once more.

The Stock Rods make their 2nd outing of the campaign. Last time out, the formula provided some great competitive racing, which seen Lee McGill come out on top in the meeting final. Former Junior Production driver, Lennon Grant hopes to make his debut, as does James Halkett. National Points Champion Siobhan Martin is set to make her first appearance of the year having missed out at our opener in late February. The drivers will be looking to maximise their haul of points with everyone having an eye on championship qualification later in the campaign. Gary Dean, Dean McGill and Siobhan Martin will all have to bide their time as they aim to navigate their way through the traffic from the rear of the grid. Robbie Armit, Rory Naismith, Sean Naismith and Teri Linden have all shown excellent pace in the formula since the changeover to the Hoosier tyre, and have all been battling for the podium places. Paul Hughes had a new car out on track last time out, and hit the ground running with it, as he raced to some of his best results in the formula to date. He will be hoping to take that confidence into Saturday as he looks to get more points on the board.

The Superstox have provided some great racing at Lochgelly Raceway, with many competitive and hard hitting races. European Champion, Dean Johnston leads the line up this Saturday, as he aims for a repeat of the hat-trick he scored last time out. Scottish Champion, Ciaran Adams will be looking to make life difficult though, as he too seeks to be the one that takes the chequered flag first at the end of each race. Mirran Adams has continued to grow into the formula, with steady progress being made – can a race win be on the horizon for the girl racer? Benjamin Erskin, Colin Din and the likes of Mick Taylor will be looking to pick up some good points places.

The CC Rods had a high drama first outing of the season a couple of weeks ago, and we hope that the dust has settled as the drivers look to get back on track, and back to providing some great door to door action. Brandon Gourlay and Alec Cunningham look set to be the season’s front runners, with both drivers showing great pace in the opening event. You can never rule out Ian Christie though, who is always there or thereabouts looking to pick up the pieces where others lose out. Natalie Mason displayed a stunning new car last time out, and she will be looking to continue to familiarize herself in the seat of the car, as she looks to battle it out for the podium places this weekend.

The Classic Hot Rods are the final formula set to be in attendance. Zak Murdoch is set to make his debut in the class – at quite the opposite side of the spectrum that he has previously found himself racing having been a regular van banger racer. Keith Chesher, John Buchan and a few others hope to be with us on track, as the formula make their first appearance on the Hoosier tyre.

The drivers sign in office will open at 2.00pm, whilst practice will get underway at 3.00pm.

Drivers are reminded that they are responsible for leaving a tidy pit area, utilizing the bins provided, or taking rubbish away with them. Any teams found to be leaving their pit area untidy, will be fined and possibly banned from attending race meetings.

The spectator gates will open at 3.00pm, with trackside parking only available on a first come first served basis. High sided vehicles are encouraged to park on the upper level, and the far end of the middle level, so not to obstruct views of those behind them.
