We’re back for the first event of the 2026 season and it promises to be an entertaining event with lots to look forward too. The action gets underway at 5.30pm, with spectator gates set to open at 2.30pm.
The season gets underway on Saturday 28th February with five exciting formula taking to the track, with a great mix of both contact and non-contact racing. The 1400 Stock Cars are ironed up hatch back cars running 1400cc engines. These cars can use the front bumpers to push, spin and hit the opposition out of the way – it has to be done with enough skill though, otherwise, by the time the drivers get to the next corner, they could be receiving a hit themselves. Last season we witnessed some great tit for tat battles that lasted laps providing hugely entertaining racing. There will be a few drivers on track with new or re-worked cars and it could be a case of they hit the ground running, or they experience some teething issues. Joshua Machin and Gary Nicholls should both be with us on Saturday, with the two drivers performing well in 2025, they’ll be hoping to continue that success form into 2026. Charlie Henry looked good in practice too, and she will be one to look out for. Abe Adams and Dale Sutherland are both hoping to be in attendance having stepped up from the Junior Production formula. Dean McGill looks to be focusing on the 1400 Stock Car formula this year and will be one to keep an eye on too. Jamie George, more familiar within the ProStock formula is hoping to make his debut in the 1400 Stock Car class this weekend too.
The Stock Rods will provide some super close, competitive and ‘non-contact’ racing. There are a number of new drivers set to enter the class, with the likes of William Plenderleith and Caden Wotherspoon moving into the formula having graduated from the Junior Production class – though, we won’t see them this weekend, they will be a welcome addition to the formula in the coming months. The Stock Rod formula was arguably the most entertaining non-contact formula at HRP Lochgelly in 2025, providing lots of bumper to bumper and door to door racing. With the majority of drivers being at the top of there game, a lot of overtaking has to be inch perfect, fighting hard to make a move around the outside, or keeping it tight whilst defending with everything you have – the Stock Rod formula are going to be a great watch in 2026 as they gear up for the World Championship here in September. Charlie Woodcock is set to join us on Saturday, whilst Leon Stewart looks to get to grips with the Hoosier tyre.
The National Hot Rods are the elite formula of non-contact oval racing – These top end machine will roar around the tight Lochgelly Raceway at speeds of around 70mph. There is no room for error otherwise it could be the end of the nights action for the drivers if it goes wrong. Mazda, Ginnetta’s, Tigra’s and more are the silhouettes of the cars, but underneath there are sophisticated space framed chassis, high performance race engines tuned to the maximum. Northern Ireland’s Adam Maxwell joins us, as does Englishman Robert Gamble. We can expect to see Charlie Hardie and Chris Leslie make their debut’s in the formula, whilst Gordon Alexander, Derek Connor, Ian Donaldson, Ross McWilliam and the like are all chasing World Final qualification and as such, we expect to see most of them in attendance. We’re also expecting a return to the ovals from Roy Anderson – a driver that always used to love a wet meeting. The National Hot Rods will be looking to optimize race setups ahead of the David Philp Commercials European Championship, here in May!
The CC Rods are one of the most affordable formula’s to participate in, with some drivers racing with basic engines and basic setups. The formula though has the capability of producing some very exciting and dramatic racing, with the drivers – of mixed experiences – race bumper to bumper and door to door – and it could go wrong in a blink of an eye. We’ve seen many photo finishes as the drivers race side by side looking for that edge, those extra points and the chance to win a trophy. Lee Scott claimed the points championship in 2025, but he’ll be hard pushed in 2026 with a few drivers looking to take the fight to him – Scottish Champion Ian Donaldson is one such driver, whilst Robert Conway will be looking to push on after missing out on the points by a narrow margin last year. The likes of Brooke McMullan, Hollie Ritchie and Kenny Pitcaithly will all be hoping for a strong year, and muster up as many points as they possible can. There will be a few drivers making debut’s in the formula – Liam Conway, William Fisher and Gavin Ritchie are just a few who should all be in action this weekend. Gavin Ritchie has taken a different route to most – with most drivers opting for a Corsa, Gavin has went for the Astra approach – it will be interesting to see how that materializes and how he fairs.
Finally, the ProStocks complete the line up of formula. There are a number of new drivers set to join the class this year, though, as with most seasons, there are a few drivers that aren’t quite ready to take to the track just yet. We should have some good racing though, with Dougie Kidd, Paul Barron and Ryan Martin set to battle it out once more, with the likes of Rachel Kidd, Kai McNulty and John Mason looking to claim a few victories along the way. John Mason has moved to the Corsa chassis this year, and it will be intriguing to see how he fairs with it. The nudge and spin formula served up some exciting, dramatic and at times, controversial racing in 2025, and we are anticipating another exciting year ahead for the formula.
We hope that you enjoy your visit with us at HRP Lochgelly Raceway. Pick up a fixture list at the main reception to see what we have in store for the rest of the season.
