June Speed Weekend

Meeting Date: Saturday 1st June

June Speed Weekend June Speed Weekend
It’s time for our 2nd speed weekend of the 2024 season.

The A1 Containers R Us British Championship headlines the bill on Saturday 1st June, whilst the 2.0 Hot Rods British Championship headlines the bill on Sunday 2nd June. The American Cup Car Racing teams make their annual trip north as they race for their Scottish Championship. The Junior Productions also feature on Saturday, whilst the Ninja Karts feature on Sunday.

With over 100 drivers are set to grace the track this weekend we have some epic racing to look forward too.

The A1 Containers R Us Superstox British Championship takes place on the Saturday night following a couple of qualifying heats for each driver to determine their starting slot for the big race. Reigning British Champion Chris Bradbury will be looking to claim the title for the second year in succession. Bradbury has already been up to Lochgelly once this year, and showed that he had the pace on that occasion and he’ll certainly fancy his chances for success once more. Scotland’s Dean Johnston is the current European Champion, and Dean would love nothing more than to add the British Championship on home soil. Dean has been in great form so far in 2024, having won 4 out of the 6 meeting finals this year already. Northern Ireland’s Craig McConnell claimed victory in the 2023 World Championship title here at Lochgelly last year, and will be relishing the opportunity to claim more success at a venue that has given him a lot of joy over the years this weekend. National Champion Lee Davison is set to join us as he joins a star studded field of Superstox drivers. Davison himself, a former World Champion knows what it takes and knows what he needs to do to come away with success. Another champion set to be on the grid this weekend is English National Points Champion Michael Green. Green has been around the Superstox formula for a while and has won multiple championships over the years, and is no slouch around Lochgelly Raceway, having taking a few race wins over the years at the venue. The hard hitting Superstox formula will provide lots of on track action throughout the weekend. Expect the bumpers to go in hard from the outset, and some tactical racing as the drivers look for the best opportunity for success.

The 2.0 Hot Rods race for their British Championship, with a new driver set to be crowned champion with reigning champion Wayne Woolsey not currently booked to race (at the time of writing). The non-contact class will provide some epic bumper to bumper racing across the weekend with no room for error as each and every driver looks to capitalize on any opening available to them as they make forward inroads through the pack. Will we see drivers brave enough to stick a move out on the outside line? Such moves are hard to achieve and ofter require patience, but it can be done. 2 by 2 racing around Lochgelly Raceway is always exciting to watch as both drivers need to show respect. Pushing other cars out of the way isn’t in the spirit of the formula, and drivers are caught doing so, they will be penalized.

The American Cup Car Racing series makes their way north for their annual Scottish Championship weekend. These NASCAResque like cars often provide some great racing, with the Junior series also following them around the country. Of the Junior series, the Scottish following will see a couple of recognized names on the grid this weekend, with Katie Lee Smart and Abigail Chalmers both competing in the class - the pair were regular Ninja Kart attendees here at Lochgelly last season.

The Junior Productions are with us hot on the heels of their British Championship event in Northern Ireland last weekend, where our home contingent of drivers didn’t have much in the way of success over the weekend. The formula has provided some stellar racing this year already at Lochgelly, and we expect the formula to provide some great racing as the youngsters look to showcase their talent in front of a large crowd. Many of the drivers in the formula will see the formula as a stepping stone as they look to further their careers in formula such as 2.0 Hot Rods, Stock Rod.

The Ninja Karts were in action last weekend and provided some great on track racing, with many super battles throughout. Tommy Melrose, Rory Wilson, Jayden Jeffrey, Louie Hendry and Henry Hunn have all been at the forefront of the action this season with very little between the drivers. Wilson has shown consistency and has moved to within striking distance at the top of the national points charts, as he looks to claim the title at the first time of asking. Alix Martin and Jayden McKie both made their racing debuts last weekend, with both drivers showing good confidence on track, and both look to be ones to watch out for in the future.

DRIVER BOOKINGS REMAIN OPEN FOR ALL FORMULA - ANY DRIVER WISHING TO PARTICIPATE SHOULD BOOK IN BY 5PM ON 30TH MAY. Drivers can book in through the HRP website, or by messaging on WhatsApp to 07584837445.
