The youngsters in the Ninja Karts take centre stage this Saturday (27th July) at Lochgelly Raceway as they contest their 2024 Scottish Championship.
The event also features the CC Rods, Classic Hot Rods, ORCi Ministox & ProStocks in an epic FIVE formula event. There will be plenty of action, drama and hard fought racing throughout the night with something for everyone.
Reigning champion, Stuart Shevill has now retired from the Ninja Kart formula meaning that a new driver will be crowned champion on Saturday. With almost 20 drivers booked to race, it will be a dramatic event for the youngsters as they give their all in the quest for glory. 2023-24 HRP points champion, Rory Wilson will be looking to claim the title having impressed greatly throughout 2024 so far. The youngster has little fear and will throw his kart around the outside without any hesitation. Jayden Jeffrey has found some great form recently after some early season troubles with the kart. Jayden raced to an excellent 2nd place finish in the European Championship in Northern Ireland last weekend, and he’ll be hoping to show such form on his home track this weekend as he hopes to come away with the Scottish Championship title. Henry Hunn is a regular attendee here at Lochgelly and despite being an English based driver, he holds his licence with us and will be give it his all. Henry is up there with the quickest of drivers on the track, though, hasn’t had much in the way of good fortune this year so far – it’s bound to be time for a change of luck though! Louie Hendry will start the event as one of the favourites. A smooth driver that generally keeps his nose clean, and turns up when it matters most. Always a quick and consistent driver here at Lochgelly Raceway! Rayah Burns has been in excellent form in 2024, and has found a lot of confidence in her ability. The young female pilot is often one of the quickest drivers here at HRP Lochgelly, though like some others, doesn’t always have the best of luck! She’ll be hoping to keep it clean and give herself the best possibility for success through two strong qualifying heats. Sophia Allan started the 2024 season excellently, showing great progress and good pace at each of our events. A run of bad luck though has hampered that somewhat, however, Sophia cannot be discounted and with some good fortune along the way, she should be battling it out for the podium positions. The Ninja Kart class are littered with talent, and any one of the youngsters are capable of producing a Scottish Championship winning performance on any given day! We are sure that an excellent show is put on by the drivers.
The Classic Hot Rods are a showpiece formula – the non-contact class has had it’s ups and downs over the years, however, driver numbers seem to picking up once more, which can only be good for the formula. Southern based drivers James Owen and Alfie Johnson both make the trip north to be with us once more. James Owen put in an excellent performance last time out here at Lochgelly, and is certainly a driver that looks capable of winning things in years to come. John Buchan has been one of the front runners here in Scotland over the last few years, and he himself will be hoping to get back into victory lane this weekend. Cameron Willacy, Matt MacPherson, Zak Murdoch, Trevor Harris and potentially, Keith Chesher should all also be on track.
The ProStock formula has been excellent this season – the nudge and spin class has provided a wide range of race winners, entertaining races, and some dramatic moments along the way. Paul Barron leads the points championship at the moment, however, his cards may be marked as the opposition look to prevent him pulling away at the top end. Ian Christie has been consistent throughout the year too – flying under the radar in most cases, but picking up the points steadily. Grady Ross made a return to racing this year after some time away, and it doesn’t look like he has slowed down any with a few more years on him. Grady has picked up numerous race wins and podium positions and is expected to be one of the front runners this weekend. Rachel Kidd is set to make her debut in the class having recently graduated from Ministox, and starting from the front, she’ll be difficult to catch!
The ORCi Ministox never fail to disappoint. The youngster are tough performers, as they exchange blows on a lap to lap basis. Although not a full contact formula, they will certainly entertain! The formula is in a transition phase at the moment with a number of drivers moving on and a few more drivers entering the class as they look to become the front runners. David Philp Jnr has been in excellent form and currently leads the HRP National Points. Philp too, also claimed the ORCi Championship at Taunton last weekend. Cole Ford, Hamish Plenderleith, Dougie Kidd, and Rhys Kelly have all shown great pace here at Lochgelly and will all likely be battling it out throughout the evening. Rab Scott makes one of his final outings in the Ministox class before retiring, and he’ll be aiming to go out on a high.
The CC Rods are the final formula in action, and it is good to see the numbers slowly pick up once more after a few disappointing events. The non-contact class is generally a very competitive formula with little between many of the drivers allowing for some epic races. Lee Scott took a hat-trick last weekend, and he’ll be hoping for another sort of performance this weekend. Brooke McMullan is set to make her debut in the class having recently moved on from Junior Productions.
