Saturday night will see the ProStocks take centre stage as they battle it out for their 2022 World Cup. The National Hot Rods race in the latest rounds of their Scottish World Qualifying Series, whilst the Ministox, Superstox and CC Rods complete the line up.
Ian Christie won the World Cup in 2021 and will be looking to retain the title this year. The 170 driver has sworn by his Fiesta in recent years, and has proven it to be as quick on any given day. An out the hat grid draw for the main race will see the drivers line up in a randomized order, which could open the door to anyone taking victory. Tam Melrose has recently returned to action and will be looking to take glory. Melrose is no stranger to success in the ProStock formula having won an array of championships over the last few years. Darren Rae had looked to have given up with ProStocks as he moved across into the 1300 Stock Car formula, but a recent return in the formula will see Darren go all out for glory this Saturday night. Grumm Fleming, Gavin Ritchie and Robert Conway have all had some great races this year, and this trio will no doubt be in amongst the action on come race time!
The National Hot Rods have seen numbers increase in the 2022 campaign, much to the delight of everyone involved with the formula. We are delighted to welcome Precision Engine Services as the meeting sponsor this weekend, with a tyre going to one lucky driver in the meeting final. The National Hot Rod are the premier of non-contact short oval racing, and a decent field of cars is a site to behold. William Hardie was the dominant driver last time out as he looks to qualify for the World Championship in July 2023. Roy Anderson is a well known wet weather expert – he has shown he is as quick as anyone in the damp conditions, and will no doubt be doing a rain-dance ahead of this weekend!! Gordon Alexander is set to miss out following injury in Northern Ireland a couple of weeks ago, though John Sibbald will be back with us having missed out last time out. Ross McWilliam and James Mooney are the top two drivers in the Scottish series at the moment, and will be hoping that that remains the case following this weekends racing.
The Ministox are back with us this weekend. Last time out the youngsters provided great entertainment on track, with race wins going the way of Sam Cavanagh, Ollie Sime and Robbie Armit. The youngsters will kick off the evening with a whites and yellows race, sponsored by JusBounce followed by 2 heats and a final for all cars. There is an intriguing battle going on at the top of the relevant points charts in the formula, with the National Points swinging the way of Charlie Hardie in the second half of the season, with Jake Wilson running into a run of bad luck. Wilson will be hoping to break the trend this weekend as he looks to pull the gap back to Hardie ahead of him. The track points has seen Robbie Armit open up a lead to Hardie and Wilson respectively, and will be looking to score consistently in the remaining fixtures to maintain the lead that he has. Demi Ritchie and Sam Cavanagh have both shown a great turn of pace in recent months, with the two drivers looking to get in amongst the race wins again this weekend. Hamish Plenderleith and Cole Ford have both had great debut seasons in the formula, with Plenderleith currently oozing with confidence, whilst Ford continues to improve meeting by meeting – taking a hat trick of third place finishes last time out here at Lochgelly Raceway.
The CC Rods have been in fantastic form this season – with car numbers regularly seeing 20+ take to the track. This Saturday night will likely see a similar amount, with the formula set to put on another epic showing of action. Kyle Hutchison appears to be the driver to beat in the formula at the moment, as he chases the points championship, with Raymond Brown moving on from the formula. Kevin Hutchison proved last time out that he still has what it takes, and with a little bit of effort, he can be up there challenging regularly. The recently crowned Scottish Champion will be looking to kick on from his success. Lee Scott, Mirran Adams and Dean McGill have all been in the mix of late, whilst James Dickie is set to make a return to action in the formula as well.
The Superstox have had some great racing this year, though have had their ups and downs along the way with various drivers struggling for reliability. Dean Johnston and Aaron Riddell have been surestay’s throughout the season, and both deserve a lot of credit for turning up and putting on a show at the majority of race meetings this season. Bryan Forrest looks to have got to grips with his new car now, and looking back to his best, as he claimed a hat trick of race wins a few weeks ago – can the 309 pilot carry on that form this weekend, and once again, show that he is the one to beat? One driver returning to action is Colin Frame – Frame last raced in 2021 in the John Gibson Memorial event which he went on to win – can he achieve more success this weekend?
Be sure to join us on Saturday – Gates open 3pm, first race 5.30pm!
