It is the first Friday night event of the season here at HRP Lochgelly Raceway. Our Friday events often produce, fast paced and high quality events, with non-stop action from start to finish.
We have three excellent formula in attendance, with the U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars, ORCi Ministox and CC Rods all featuring this coming Friday. The first race will get underway at 7pm, but before that, we will welcome David Philp Jnr to the track to parade his UK Championship title that he won at Skegness last weekend.
The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars have provided some excellent racing over the course of the season, with multiple drivers standing up and being recognised – Kevin Graham has took to the formula excellently, and has already secured a number of race wins in his short time in the formula. Jamie Stewart has been the consistent driver though, as he leads the way in both the track and national points. World Champion Darren Rae can never be discounted, as he fights his way through from the rear of the pack – never shy to stick the bumper in, and get involved in some excellent end to end battles. Fraser Clark has had a treacherous time of it of late, struggling for form, but as the saying goes – form is temporary, but class is permanent – and we are sure Fraser will return to form in due course and get back in amongst the winners here at Lochgelly Raceway. William Wallace is set to return having missed a couple of meetings – the youngster has been in the thick of the action, and seems to have been caught up in more than his fair share of incidents. British Champion, Gary Nicholls has been in good form of late, though, starting from the back, he has had to use the front bumper more often to make inroads into the competitive pack of cars ahead of him.
The ORCi Ministox are one of the formula that never fail to disappoint – providing scintillating action at all times. With the drivers being between 11 & 15 years old, and many of them moving into senior formula thereafter, the formula provides an excellent stomping ground as the drivers build racecraft and experience. The formula has had many a talking points over the years, with huge successes for some, and some agitated families along the way! Rivalries and friendships are formed, but when it comes to on the track, there are no friends, and the drivers are well within their rights to use the front bumper to push the car in front out of the way, or spin them to the infield. David Philp Jnr is arguably the top driver in the formula at the moment, having scooped up a large number of titles over the last year or so. Philp isn’t afraid to get stuck in, and will take a good hit too without too much moaning. The 29 pilot hasn’t had it all his own way though, with a few pushing him all the way. Stuart Shevill Jnr is a star in the making having only been out of the Ninja Kart formula little over a year – he has already established himself as a front running driver, and will ensure the likes of David Philp will have to work hard for their on track success. Shevill came away with a runners up spot in the UK Championship at Skegness last weekend – it is only a matter of time before he claims his first Ministox championship. Ben McLellan has been a regular at Lochgelly this season, and often finds himself battling for the podium places – however, a run of bad luck has hampered this progress, but we are sure he’ll be back in contention this Friday night! Lana Middler is a rising star in the formula – the young lady racer has found her confidence here at Lochgelly, and has found herself racing up front more often than not in 2025, claiming a well deserved race win last time out too!
The CC Rods are the final formula in attendance – and with the grades having been mixed up a bit since the last time the formula were on track, it will be interesting to see how the results pan out on Friday. Kevin Donaldson has hit the ground running in the formula, and has seen himself move up the grades – the 900 driver will have to work a little hard now to chase those podium places. Ian Christie has missed a few meetings this year due to other commitments, but is set to be back in action this Friday. The points champion needs no introduction, as he looks to get some more points on the board. Scottish Champion Alec Cunningham joins us once more, whilst Lee Scott, Ian Donaldson and Robert Conway all look to challenge for podium places in a very competitive field of cars. 646 Ashleigh Downs looks set to make her debut in the formula, joining the likes of Brooke McMullan and Baillie Glencross as ‘girl racers’. Strictly a non-contact formula, the budget class formula often throws up a few spanners, and always provides very good racing.
