We move into the exciting month of May with lots of racing to look forward too – and we start off with a cracker – The V8 HotStox return to Scotland for the first time since 2022, with the Superstox, ORCi Ministox, CC Rods and ProStocks all featuring in a fantastic five formula event!
The V8 HotStox made their Scottish debut in 2022 and did not disappoint, arguably being the top formula on that occasion with some fantastic, hard hitting, action packed racing, and we cannot wait to see what the formula has in store for us this Saturday night. With 25 drivers (at time of writing) booked to participate, the action will be relentless as the drivers negotiate one another, and use the front bumper to maximum effect throughout each of the four scheduled races. Two heats, a final and grand national are scheduled for the might V8s. 176 Stephen Young raced to a hat-trick of race wins in 2022 – can he be the one to beat once more, or are there other drivers in contention for success this time around? With the V8s, you’ll certainly feel the roar as the cars race by in a sight to behold!
The Superstox are with us once more as they begin to gear up for the European Championship here over the 14th and 15th June – This weekend we see Martyn Coles make the trip north to join us as they look to get some track time – the drivers will be looking to fend off the high flying Aaron Riddell car. Former Scottish Champion, Ciaran Adams may also be set to make an outing should he have time to get the car ready to race. Bryan Forrest hasn’t taken long to get back on the pace, and once more, has a well presented car at his disposal. Craig Stephen hopes to be with us once more as he continues to learn the craft of Superstox racing.
The ORCi Ministox are always an exciting formula to watch, with lots of competitive racing, and extremely talented youngsters. Bailey Wilson has started the season off excellently, though, we’d expect him to have moved up the grades somewhat after a string of victories early in the season. David Philp Jnr and Stuart Shevill Jnr have both regularly been the front running drivers with little between the pair of them – Philp has shown the pace on lap times, but Shevill has shown that he is a match for the National Points Champion, and won’t move over easily. Jack Jones has been a regular attendee in the formula, and much like he was in the Ninja Kart beforehand, he always appears to be on the pace. His results haven’t always shown this, as he has so far, been a tad unfortunate with being caught up in incidents. Jayden Roff made his Ministox debut about a month ago, and has taken to the formula excellently. Roff claimed victory in the JusBounce race last time out, and will be hoping to get himself into victory lane once more on Saturday. Lucas Whyte and Hallie Wishart are both hoping to make their first outings of the season.
The CC Rods are with us to provide some ‘non contact’ racing – looking to provide skill and resilience to make moves stick around the outside, or find the power to drive past the opposition without the need to push them out the way. Lee Scott has looked the quickest driver so far this season, but has had a bit of bad luck along the way – Alec Cunningham, Ian Christie , Ian Donaldson and Gregor Whyte have all had good results so far this season in the formula. Kevin Donaldson is set to make a return to the formula this week having acquired the Craig Mason car, whilst John Gorman also makes a return to racing.
The ProStocks have been up there as being one of the top performing formula this season with around 20 cars at each event so far – and nearly 25 cars are expected this Saturday as the ‘nudge and spin’ formula look to provide plenty of on track thrills and spills. Grady Ross, Ian Christie, Dean McGill and Ryan Martin have all looked quick this season – with Paul Barron and Dougie Kidd having a few early season challenges. Becki Ritchie got off to a flying start early in the campaign, but having moved back to red, things became a little more challenging. Gavin Ritchie looks to be back to his best after a disappointing 2024 season – Ritchie has been flying of late, setting the quickest lap time of the season last time out.
A reminder, that racing gets underway at 5.00pm this Saturday.A reminder, we have
50 50 TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM THE MAIN RECEPTION FOR JUST £1 PER STRIP, WITH HALF THE TAKINGS GOING TO THE WINNER.
A reminder, motorsport can be dangerous. Please stay clear of the catch fence during racing, be observant throughout the event and keep all children accompanied at all times. The promotors do our utmost to ensure a safe environment for all, however, given the nature of the sport, risks cannot be fully eradicated.
All attendee’s are requested to drive with care whilst arriving and leaving the venue. Pedestrians and horse riders are a regular feature on the access road. Please give them room and respect.A note from the V8 Hotstox Team – The hard hitting Brisca V8 Hotstox return to Scotland for the first time since making their debut here in 2022!
If you have never seen the V8 Hotstox before, these cars are a full contact single seater Stock Car formula. Every car is built with a custom-built steel chassis with bumpers on all sides. Wings are mounted to the drivers cab to help add downforce to the rear wheels under acceleration. The Brisca V8 Hotstox have a rich history of some of the very best V8 powered full contact stock car racing in the history of British oval racing!
The formula last raced in Scotland in June of 2022 with the meeting at Lochgelly being the first ever Hotstox meeting in Scotland. The Lochgelly meeting was all about one man as Stephen Young (#176) claimed a sensational two heat wins and the meeting final victory.
World Champion Grant Leather (#1) will be another driver to watch over the weekend in his stunning gold car. Grant won the biggest prize of them all at Bristol in 2024 in a chaotic and breathe taking World Final race. Grant held his nerve and managed to take the chequered flag, could he see it again this weekend? The silver winged car of National Points champion Jon Brown (#288) will also be making the long trip North, if you are a fan of big hitters in stock car racing then you will want to keep an eye out for Jon. Jon has arguably had a frustrating start to his 2025 season and may be looking to release some of his frustrations upon his rivals.
The veteran of the formula Bryan Andrew (#355) will travel to Scotland this weekend. Bryan has been racing in the formula for longer than any other driver in the history of the Hotstox but he still knows how to pick up race wins! On the contrast, some of the formula’s least experienced drivers such as Charlie Portman (#528) and Sam Knight (#202) will be taking to the Scottish tracks for their first experience of racing North of the border.
The Hotstox have a rich history of some of stock car racing’s greatest female drivers and many will be taking to the tracks this weekend. Keep an eye out for drivers such as Dannie Schoales (#137), Abigail Stansfield (#153) and Sophie Maynard (#154) who are more than happy to battle it out with their rival drivers!
The drivers and teams of the Hotstox thoroughly enjoyed their visit here in 2022 and have been eager to return. As you can imagine, a huge amount of time, effort and money goes into making a trip such as this and all of the drivers will appreciate your support. Be sure to make plenty of noise during the victory laps, cheer and wave to the drivers and they will wave back! The drivers and teams of the formula are a friendly group and I’m sure would love to meet many of you in the pits so please come and have a look at the cars.
If you want to know more about the formula, the brand new Hotstox website (www.v8hotstox.co.uk) is now live and the Brisca V8 Hotstox page on Facebook offers live results from race meetings. Several of the formula’s drivers and teams are very active on Social Media and would appreciate a follow. Drivers such as Frankie Burgess, Jon Brown and Guy Jolly produce Yotube vlogs following their racing exploits and these are always a great watch.
Good luck to all of the drivers and teams who are racing this weekend!
Pete Savage
