A lively five formula meeting comes our way this Saturday night (17th September) as we see another two Scottish Championships on the line.
The Direct Car Care Junior Productions Scottish Championship is a wide open event this year, with no clear favourite. The Juniors have been in superb form this year, with numbers sky rocketing, resulting in an ever improving caliber of driver on track. Reigning Scottish Champion Jase Walle will be looking to retain the title he excellently won in 2021, and is certainly in with a chance. Jase is always there or thereabouts when it comes to the end of each race. A steady driver on track, and one that would has the pace to compete with any other driver out there. Former Scottish Champion, Koddi Wright likewise, is now one of the most experienced drivers in the formula, and has made 2022 his own. Leading the way in the points chart, Koddi will be hoping to avoid any incidents this weekend as he looks to claim the title from Jase. Jack MacLeod is nearing the end of his time in the formula, and would love to go out on a high with claiming the Scottish Championship – MacLeod hasn’t had the best of fortune in 2022 having took a while to get used to the Corsa having moved on from the Nova. However, Jack has maintained red grade throughout the year and has the pace on any given day to give anyone a run for their money. A worthy contender for the Saltire. James Slater has had a fine 2022 campaign, and has found himself battling from the rear of the grid for the majority of the season. Given how car numbers have increased throughout the season, coming from the back has been no easy task, but James has kept at it, and has scored consistently well throughout. With good fortune on his side, he will be one of the front runners this weekend. A host of drivers throughout the grid have stepped up this year. Aiden McKinnon, Kaitlyn Smart, Lennon Grant and Connor St Aubyn to name just a few that have been up there and challenging for race wins throughout the season. Lewis Duffy, Dale Sutherland and Jack Baird are all drivers that have found good form of late and will be hoping for favourable grid draws this weekend in their quest for glory. Lewis Dickson and William Plenderleith have been surestay’s amongst the blue grade throughout the season – scoring well on a regular basis. A good draw for either of them, will see them battle for success this weekend as well. A superbly competitive formula that the Junior Productions have turned out to be this year, and we can’t wait to see who will come out on top this Saturday night.
The CC Rods also contest their Scottish Championship – another formula that have blossomed in 2022, with 20+ cars becoming a regular thing for the non-contact class. Raymond Brown and Kyle Hutchison have been the front runners throughout the 2022 season, and both drivers currently lead the way in the points chart, and will likely start the race as favourites. Raymond suffered some damage last week though, and will be hoping to have his car back in tip top condition this weekend as he looks for success. Dean McGill entered the formula several meetings ago in the ex James Dickie car, and alike it was with Dickie at the wheel, McGill has it motoring as well and has taken several wins with it in recent times as well. Ian Christie, the reigning Scottish Champion has proven that it isn’t all about Corsas, as he has stuck by his Fiesta and has it competing on a regular basis. Give Ina a bit of freedom on the track, and he will be hard to catch, and overtake! Current points champion Kevin Hutchison has found the going tough from the very back, but has regularly scored well throughout the season, and given how he places in the qualifying heats, he could be one to look out for in the quest for glory. Emma Kirk, Lee Scott and Mirran Adams have all had solid seasons, with the trio all taking away podium places on numerous occasions throughout 2022. Two reverse grid heats will see the points collated to form the grid for the Scottish Championship – any DNF’s in the heats will seriously hamper any driver, so all of the drivers will be looking to finish the races, penalty free too!
The 1300 Stock Cars are with us again as they battle it out for the prestigious Craig McNicoll Memorial. Patrick Calderwood won the race in 2021, but will be unable to defend the title this weekend due to injury, but will no doubt be in attendance cheering on the drivers. Kyle Hegg and Fraser Clark have been consistent performers from the rear of the grid this year, and will both be looking to be victorious in the Memorial race. Ally Strachan has took to the formula like a duck to water, and has found himself come away with numerous excellent results already – can he add the McNicoll Memorial to his already successful 1300 Stock Car career? Regan Watson and Charlie Henry have both found some great form of late – Both in new cars to them. Charlie and Regan have both continually found their feet throughout the season in the formula, and it’s a good time of year for them both to take away another couple of race wins! Darren Rae was a late addition to the 1300 Stock Cars this year but has taken to them well, taking a few wins along the way already. Rae has the experience on track to read a race and keep out of bother, and will be looking to make that experience count this weekend. William Stawiarski will give it his all as he hopes to put on a show, and claim a victory on the day as well – as he did a few weeks ago. The 1300 Stock Cars have been a stand out formula in 2022, and will again put on a great showing this weekend – be sure not to miss them!
The Ministox have been a formula that have seen every superlative used to explain them over the last few years given how consistently great they have been – and this weekend we can expect much the same. With around 20 cars expected to take to the track, the racing will be action packed from start to finish as the star graded drivers try their utmost to battle their way through to the front of the pack as quickly as they can. That itself is a tough task – as there are so many ever improving drivers on track, that seem to get quicker with each passing meeting. Dean Heeps, Rian Mitchell and Sam Cavanagh have all been consistent performers this year, and none of the trio are scared to get stuck in as well. A few northern based drivers are set to be with us this weekend, with Rhys Kelly, Freya Lovett and Ethan Gemmell all set to make a rare appearance at Lochgelly. Eevie Ford took to the track last week and despite struggling early on, gathered confidence as the meeting progressed – something she will hope to do more of this Saturday night.
The Stock Rods are the final formula in attendance. Paul Hughes looks to return to action following a lay off for a few meetings, whilst Chris Leslie is again hoping to be out on track whilst work allows him to do so. Brett Sneddon has been in great form of late, showing superb pace, and the experienced driver will be looking to take away another couple of podium finishes this weekend. Gary Dean has been a consistent performer in the formula, and will again be looking to score well this weekend as he looks to chase the National Points Championship this season. Stewart Aitken takes to the track again and looks to be getting back in the swing of things, following a period of illness that kept him on the sidelines for the best part of the season.
Be sure to join us this Saturday night for an action packed night of racing at Lochgelly Raceway!!
Spectator gates open at 2.30pm, with the first race getting underway at 5pm! Pay on arrival.
