Saturday 6th May Saturday 6th May Saturday 6th May
As the season begins to ramp up towards the major events, the racing is getting more competitive on a weekly basis, and this Saturday looks to be another excellent night of action packed, and non-stop racing here at Lochgelly Raceway.

The National Hot Rods are back with us for the first time since their European Championship a couple of weeks ago, with this event sponsored by DD Motor Services. The Nationals have seen some great racing throughout the qualifying campaign, with the battle for the top four places intensifying as the meetings reel in. With only a few fixtures remaining for them ahead of their World Championship in July, there is still all to play for! Aside from the outright battle at the sharp end of the points chart, its been refreshing to see several of the new drivers in the campaign pick up the pace, and battle for race wins in recent events – Doug McLean, Darren Scott and Marc Spence have all shown the pace to compete, which will inevitably see them to begin moving up through the grades. The pinnacle of non-contact oval racing, the contact is frowned upon, with harsh penalties for those that are found to be in breach of the rules. The skill involved in executing overtakes around the outside line, or finding an alternative racing line to get the jump on your competition is what makes the great drivers stand out, and there are plenty within the National Hot Rods.

The 1300 Stock Cars are with us for the first of two quick fire events, with them also being with us next Friday night. This weekend, we welcome Chris Hamill from Northern Ireland, and Luke Gordan who again makes the trip north to be with us. Fraser Clark was in good form last time out, and he’ll be hoping for another run of good results this weekend. Points champion, Kyle Hegg had a pretty disastrous meeting by contrast, with 2 DNF’s to show for his efforts, and a heavily damaged car! The HRD team have been flat out to repair it ahead of this weekend. Steven Gold has been a dark horse throughout the 2023 campaign to date – floating under the radar, but scoring good finishes throughout, which has propelled him up the track championship. Ally Strachan made a return to action last time out, and didn’t look out of place – the car was on the pace from the outset, and no doubt the Strachan team have been making a few tweaks to the car to find even more pace since that event. Craig Haxton will again be with us as he looks to race as much as possible when work commitments allow – the 67 car is always one to be reckoned with – and would certainly be up their challenging for points championships, with him having one of the best ‘averages’ amongst our group of drivers. The bumpers are always put to good use in the 1300 stock cars, with many referring to them as the top formula in the UK for consistent, action packed racing.

The Junior Productions have started the 2023 season in fine form, with regular good attendances, and plenty of great competitive racing. With 20+ cars again expected to be with us on Saturday, it will be another tough meeting for the drivers starting nearer the back of the grid to score good points. The lower graded drivers have proven to be competitive, with many of the race wins in 2023 going the way of lower graded drivers – will we see another such occurrence this Saturday night? As an added incentive, there will also be a tyre up for grabs for the meeting final courtesy of WUL Enterprises.

The Stock Rods are the final formula in attendance this weekend, and it is good to see continued strong numbers in the class. An array of drivers have entered the formula this year, and this has helped bolster the numbers, however it is still the ‘old guard’ that have been the ones to beat – Siobhan Martin, Gary Dean, David Crichton, Darren McAlpine et al have been the front runners come the meeting finals. A learning curve for many of the newcomers to the formula is still ongoing, but the racing has been competitive with little in the way of straight forward races!! With upto 20 cars expected to be with us on Saturday, it’ll be another good meeting for the formula!

The main event gets underway at 6.00pm (Ninja Karts Whites and Yellows race at 5.45pm), with spectator gates opening at 3pm.

Driver sign in will open at 2.00pm, whilst practice will run from 3.20pm until 4.40pm.
