Saturday 22nd March will see a mix of great formula taking to the track – some of the sports top drivers, and at the opposite end of the spectrum, the sports up and coming drivers all showcasing their talents.
The National Hot Rods continue on their road to World Qualification, and there is little between much of the front runners – Ross McWilliam took a hat-trick of wins last time out, whilst Gordon Alexander, James Robertson and Derek Connor enjoyed some very close battles throughout that event. Ian Donaldson looked very quick on the 8th March, however, was plagued with issues throughout the night – he’ll be hoping to have overcame these as he looks to get back on track and aim for a place in the World Final come July at Ipswich. The National Hot Rods are the elite of non-contact oval racing – high spec cars, with the best of drivers, there is little to chance, and there is a lot of skill, bravery and courage involved in racing these cars in such close proximity to each other.
The open wheel Superstox formula join us on track once more. The Superstox welcome southern visitors in the shape of Michael Green and Gary Chisolm, whilst a healthy field of Scottish based drivers are expected as the formula continues to flourish once more. Aaron Riddell has been the driver to beat in recent times, though, the return of Bryan Forrest, the good pace of Adam Low and Kenny McKenzie etc, and a mix of quick lower graded drivers, has certainly livened up the racing and made allowed for some challenging and unpredictable results. Contact is permitted, and the drivers are well within their rights to hit, push and spin each other as they look to progress through the grid. Scotty Devine took the final win last time out… Can he add another win this weekend?
The Stock Rods have seen car numbers steadily creep up with each passing meeting this year – James Halkett, Craig Harrison and Raymond Brown all hope to make their first outings of the season on Saturday, pushing car numbers up to around the 20 car mark. Aiden McKinnon took his first win in the formula at the last outing, and he’ll be looking to continue to showcase his ability on Saturday, as he chases places in the majors later this year. There has been a lot of very close, competitive racing from the Stock Rods this season already – Sean Naismith, Robbie Armit, Teri Linden, David Crichton, Charlie Hardie, Gary Dean and the McGill duo of Dean and Lee – The racing has been exciting, a great watch, and certainly keeps your attention as the drivers all battle wheel to wheel, bumper to bumper!
The Scrapco Metal Recycling Ninja Karts are back with us for the first time since the season opener. The youngsters always provide exciting and very competitive racing. A mix of driver experiences often see’s a few challenges thrown in as the more experienced drivers race round at high speed, having to navigate some of the lesser experienced drivers, choosing inside or outside, whilst battling for position with their closest competitors. Jayden Jeffrey, Rory Wilson and Henry Hunn have all found themselves in the midst of the action, whilst Christopher Lattka and Alfie Shevill have recently added themselves into the mix of front running karts. Ryan Love, Alix Martin, and Blair Innes have all shown they have the pace and ability to compete too, providing a very competitive field of Ninja Karts. A number of visiting drivers has enhanced the grid numbers, making racing even more exciting and dramatic, and we look forward to welcoming the stars of the future onto the track once more this Saturday evening.
The 2.0 Hot Rods are with us for the second week in succession, and we welcome former European champion, Ben Murray who joins us from south of the border. Charlie Hardie and Keith Brown have both had impressive battles with little between the two top stars at the moment. Mark Dews had issues before the racing got underway last weekend, and will be hoping to have those rectified so that he can participate this Saturday night. Craig Mason will be back with us as he continues to familiarise himself with his new car – a car that he showed good pace in last weekend. Jack MacLeod made his debut in the formula last weekend, and got off to a winning start, taking a heat and final double, that will see him start from the yellow grade this Saturday night. Mark Brady is hopeful that he can make the event too, as he looks to make his debut in the formula, whilst Ryan Adamson is also expected to be on track soon.
