This Saturday at Lochgelly Raceway, we host a five formula event.
The National Hot Rods close their 2023 World Qualifying Campaign, and there is lots still to race for. The race for the silver is still on, with Ross McWilliam leading William Hardie by 9 points going into the final round. The final qualifying position is still undecided, with John Sibbald, James Mooney and Gordon Alexander set to battle it out for the third and fourth positions! A couple of tyres will be put up this weekend, one from Armits Autos, and one from RMH Motors, with the latter going to the top white or yellow graded driver across the line in the meeting final.
The Stock Rods are with us once more, and with just under 20 cars booked to race, it looks set to be a closely contested event, as the drivers all look to maximise their points haul in the race for glory and championship qualification. Siobhan Martin leads Gary Dean in the National Points, but behind those two, things are a lot closer, and points have been harder to come by in 2023 so far. A number of new drivers entered the formula at the beginning of the season and have all came on strongly recently, with Jack MacLeod, Ian Christie and Raymond Brown all claiming top three finishes in recent meetings. John Lee Green made a return to racing last time out and looked quick from the back of the grade, and will be one to beat this Saturday night. James Robertson flies home from a holiday this week to make the meeting, as things are a little too tight for comfort and wants to ensure he gets points on the board. David Crichton has had a steady year so far, and has been unfortunate to be caught up in a few incidents that have seen him lose out on points on a number of occasions this year. Crichton will be looking for a change of fortune this weekend as he looks to get back to challenging for podium positions.
The Superstox are with us once more, and the formula has been going from strength to strength this season, with more drivers being able to commit to more meetings. Mirran Adams made the switch to Superstox at the beginning of the season and has steadily improved with each passing meeting, last time out putting in her quickest laps in the formula to date. Brother Ciaran, has been in good form this season, setting purple lap times on more than one occasion as he looks to take the fight to the more established drivers. A last bend effort for a race win last time out didn’t work out, but we have no doubt that given the opportunity again, Ciaran would make the same move again! Dean Johnston has all but secured the National Points once more and will be looking to get a win or two this weekend. Jack Turbitt has arguably been the most improved drivers this year, having stormed up the rankings and claiming a number of wins on the way. Turbitt looks set to feature in the European Championship at Ipswich at the beginning of July. Graham Meek joins us from Northern Ireland, and Bobby Davis Jnr joins us from England, as both drivers look to get some track experience with one potentially on the World Final later in August.
The Classic Hot Rods are with us once more, for the first time since their Scottish Championship weekend in April. The Classic Hot Rods are always a joy to watch, with the style of driving and the look of retro cars throwing it around the raceway in excess of 60mph.
The Service Central Ninja Karts are the final formula in attendance, and will see around 20 karts take to the track. Stuart Shevill Jnr leads the Scottish contingent of drivers, with Tommy Melrose his closest competitor. Both drivers have had good starts to the year, and look to be on track to race for the silver as the season carries on. Jayden Jeffrey had a slow start to the year, but has found good pace of late once more, and will be hoping to carry that on and move up the grades in the coming months. Katie Lee Smart and Abigail Chalmers have both had some good results, albeit, both have also had their share of misfortune on track with a few DNF’s along the way. A name that will stand out this weekend, is Christopher Lattka, who is set to make his debut in the formula. Henry and William Hunn both make their way north to join us once more, as do Clark Ferris, Jaxon York, Cole York and Riley Close.
Spectator gates will open at 2.45pm, with practice getting underway at 3pm. Driver sign in will open at 2pm.
