Saturday 16th August seen lots of excellent racing throughout the night, with all formula putting on a show.
The Stock Rods took centre stage as they raced for their 2025 Scottish Championship, with Gary Dean looking to defend and claim the title for the third successive season. The drivers drew their grid positions before the first race, which would be the first qualifying heat, with the grid reversed for heat 2. After the heats were completed, the points would be tallied to give the 2025 Scottish Championship race grid. Lee McGill claimed victory in heat 1, holding off Gary Dean, Robbie Armit and Dean McGill for long periods in the race, whilst heat 2 would go the way of Inter-Nations Cup winner, Robbie Armit. Armit took the win ahead of David Crichton, who himself drove a strong race and defended excellently to keep Teri Linden, Aiden McKinnon and Daniel Davidson behind him. As the grid formed for the Scottish Championship race, Armit found himself on pole position alongside Lee McGill. As the green flag dropped, it was neck and neck between Armit and McGill in the early stages before Armit moved ahead. Furtherback, Teri Linden was on a charge and managed to overcome Aiden McKinnon and Gary Dean early in the race. As the race progressed, Armit moved clear and Linden closed in on Lee McGill in second place, with Aiden McKinnon holding onto fourth with a strong core of drivers on his bumper. Gary Dean, Daniel Davidson and Dean McGil were all in close pursuit, though McGill later retired to the infield. There would be no catching Armit up front, and Robbie Armit went on to take the Scottish Championship title adding to his European and Inter-Nations Championship titles. Lee McGill drove excellently to finish in second, with Teri Linden crossing the line third, though, an early race infringement seen her drop down a couple of places, and Aiden McKinnon into third position.
The Superstox formula were in action for the second successive week – The lower graded drivers battled it out for a tyre courtesy of RS Motors, with the top point scoring driver coming away with the tyre. The open wheel formula served up some brilliant action throughout the night, with the star graded drivers all giving it there all. Adam Low and Aaron Riddell were never far away from each other most of the night, with the pair trading blows in each of the three races, with things heating up further in the final as the hits got bigger and harder! Aaron Riddell took victory in heat 1 ahead of Danny Whyte and Colin Din. Heat 2 would see Danny Whyte claim his first win in the formula, finishing ahead of Riddell and Din. The meeting final would see Josh Duff take his first win in the formula. Scott Devine and Bryan Forrest looked set for podium places, though, a spin for Devine which caught Forrest too, seen Danny Whyte and Benjamin Erskine move through and back into the top 3 to take the podium places behind Duff.
The Scrapco Metal Recycling Ninja Karts were in action and we welcomed a few visiting drivers – Michael Weaver, Ralph Payne, Riley Stagg and George White. Weaver made what we believe was his first outing at Lochgelly Raceway, whilst Payne and White have visited us a few times already this season. White didn’t have much luck in the opening race, tangling with another kart and getting stuck on the exit of turn 4 resulting in a yellow flag caution. Meanwhile, Ralphy Payne made the most of starting up front and took a race win despite the caution, finishing ahead of Alfie MacLeod and Alix Martin. Heat 1 seen the blues and reds enter the mix, with Jayden Jeffrey and Henry Hunn having an excellent race for much of the race. Both drivers were within inches of each other most of the race, swapping positions a few times whilst making headway through the pack of karts. It was Jeffrey that took the win though, just ahead of Hunn with Rory Wilson coming through to finish in third. Heat 2 would see another hard fought race from the youngsters. George White has taken a liking to Lochgelly Raceway, and has found his confidence over the last few meetings he has been with us, and took another deserving victory. Blair Innes was awarded second place after Jayden Jeffrey was removed having started in the wrong grid position, with Henry Hunn moving into third place. Blair Innes drove excellently and didn’t look out of place battling in amongst Hunn, Jeffrey, Wilson and Lattka. The meeting final went the way of Blair Innes – Innes once more drove excellently holding off the in form Henry Hunn, with Alfie MacLeod completing the top three.
The National Hot Rods were down in numbers somewhat, with Marc Spence blowing up in practice depleting the numbers further. However, the racing was close between all cars on the night, with next to nothing between them – this certainly produced some exciting and close racing, with race wins going the way of Ross McWilliam (2) and Derek Connor.
The CC Rods completed the line up of formula, with the budget formula producing some very good racing throughout the night. Robert Conway, Lee Scott and Alec Cunningham left little to chance with all three drivers giving there all throughout the night. Graham Pow hasn’t had much luck this year so far – getting caught up in a few incidents, but it all came good for him on Saturday as he claimed a deserving victory in heat 2. Robert Conway took the win in heat 1, with Alec Cunningham taking the win in the meeting final.
