What a weekend of racing! Action, Battles & Carnage throughout the weekend.
It was a weekend with many different formula – 8 formula took to the track over the two days – 7 each day, and 40 races were rattled through as quickly as possible. The on track action was non stop and produced lots of great moments, despite the varying weather conditions.
The Junior Productions were out in force with just under 30 drivers competing as they battled it out for their British Championship – Being defended by Northern Irelands Casey Cherry. Three qualifying heats on the Saturday night would determine the grid for the main race on the Sunday afternoon, with the grid for the Scottish Masters being in reverse points order!
Saturday night seen Northern Ireland’s top stars dominate with Ryan Berry, Leyton Hughes and Jake Barnett taking the race wins as the youngsters navigated each other excellently in trying conditions. In heat 1, Jayden Barrie put in an impressive drive bringing his car home in second place behind race winner Ryan Berry. In heat 2, it was NI 1st and 2nd, as Ryan Jackson followed countryman Leyton Hughes over the line. William Plenderleith was Scotlands top finisher in third, with Nicole Innes finishing in an excellent fourth place. The final qualifying heat once more seen an NI 1-2, with Jake Barnett and Ryan Berry taking the top 2 places, with Callum Ritchie and Lee Moore taking third and fourth respectively. All available drivers took to the track for the British Championship race on the Sunday afternoon, and it was a stop start affair, especially in the early parts of the race. William Plenderleith took the lead at the start of the race, getting the jump on Ryan Berry. Berry was under pressure from the pack behind with Hughes, Callum Ritchie and others on his bumper in the opening laps. Berry appeared to leave half a gap, with Hughes getting his nose on the inside mid bend and with Ritchie on his bumper, he couldn’t back out. Coming out of turn 4, Berry would find himself spun around as the cars came together as they battled for the same piece of track. Hughes moved through into second place, and chased after Plenderleith up front. A few laps later, and Plenderleith got caught behind a back marker and Hughes didn’t need no second invite, as he raced around the outside of both and through into the lead of the race where he would never look back. Plenderleith kept him honest, but couldn’t mount a serious challenge in the remainder of the race. A few race cautions during the race would have had the Hughes’ clan biting there nails, but the youngster held his nerve excellently at each of the restarts. Hughes took the win despite a Stewards review, with Plenderleith and Jack Morrison completing the top three. The grid was reversed for the Scottish Masters later in the day. This seen an incident packed race, with Abe Adams claiming victory ahead of Jack Baird, and Aiden Duffy (result subject to review).
The ORCi Ministox took to the track as they battled it out for the APEX Garden Buildings National Championship, being defended by David Philp. Three all in qualifying heats produced some excellent racing with the drivers all vying for positions in each of the races. All drivers would find themselves starting one race in the front group, another in the middle group, and another in the back group to ensure fairness for all. Stuart Shevill took two heat wins, whilst David Philp claimed the third heat victory. After the points were tallied up Philp and Shevill occupied the front row, with many predicting one of these two would walk away with the win. Two rolling laps proceeded the race and no sooner had the green flag been dropped, the front two drivers were locking sidebars with the cars behind giving it a big push too – Philp clipped the kerb into turn 3, forcing himself and Shevill wide. This allowed Jack Jones through into the lead. Whilst Shevill, Philp, Rhys Anderson and others battled for second, it allowed Jones to open up a gap to the pack behind. Philp soon moved clear in second and chased down leader Jones. By the mid way stage in the race, Philp was within striking distance of Jones ahead, and a few laps later, would make his move and move into the lead of the race. Ben McLellan looked to be one of the quickest cars on track, and was making headway through the field until he was spun out by Rhys Anderson midway through the race. Corey Mathers put in a strong performance once more, whilst William Hunn, starting nearer the back of the grid, made great progress and found himself finishing in fourth place. Philp claimed the victory ahead of Jack Jones and Rhys Anderson. The Fife Championship would see the grid reversed, with Ben McLellan taking a deserving win ahead of William Hunn and David Philp.
The Unlimited Bangers took to the track on the Saturday night as they raced for their Scottish Championship. With a strong contingent of drivers, it was Harvey Webb that took the win in the big race, with Colin Riddell 2nd and Jack Reynolds 3rd. Reynolds and Webb would go on to take the wins in the following races, and we would like to thank all the drivers for supporting the event.
The Rookie Bangers replaced the Unlimited’s for the Sunday afternoon and put in an excellent display of banger racing – providing non stop action with around 40 cars taking to the track. There was follow ins, trains of cars, rollovers and head ons – it was a superb event, with credit going to the drivers and race teams for keeping the cars going throughout the afternoon. Paul Barron looked to have the win secured in the Scottish Championship, before he found himself wiped out in the closing laps by a back marker, allowing the pack through and Craig Royal claiming the win ahead of Luke Thompson and Dan Croskell. Gavin Taylor and Ryan Martin would take the wins in the further races, with Ryan Payne taking the win in the DD.
We welcomed a number of visiting formula – The Super 2s, Junior Super 2s, American Cup Cars and Junior American Cup Cars as they battled it out for a range of championships.
The Super 2s seen titles go the way of 107 Keireen Thomas, who claimed the Scottish Championship, and 24 Reuben Dodson who claimed the British Championship. The Junior Super 2s seen titles go the way of 308 Harley Wood, who claimed the Scottish Championship and 380 Nina Cayzer, who claimed the British Championship. Both the senior and junior classes provided no end of entertainment throughout the weekend. There was plenty of bumper work, overtaking, cars bouncing about and climbing over each other – A fantastic formula that we hope to see return in 2026.
The American Cup Cars and Junior American Cup Cars were non-contact formula, Nascaresq styled bodies, and both variations raced for their Scottish Championship. Close, respectful and competitive racing was seen throughout the weekend, with multiple race winners in both categories. The Seniors seen the Scottish Championship go the way of 80 Jon Evans, whilst the Juniors seen 24 Andrew Slater successfully defend his Scottish Championship! Again, we hope to welcome the cup cars to Scotland in 2026!
