Saturday 23rd August seen lots of excellent racing throughout the night, with all formula putting on a show.
It was the final round of the SP Utilities Series for the UPI 1300 Stock Cars with extra incentives on offer for the drivers. Heat 1 seen Kyle Strachan lead the majority of the race – looking set to take the win until Jamie Stewart reeled in the gap in the closing stages to nudge him wide to take the lead in the closing laps. Heat 2 would go the way of Kevin Graham – Graham has shown that he is more than capable of mixing it up in the U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars and will be one to watch in the future. Jamie Stewart had a fight on his hands as he raced through the star graded drivers, with Joshua Machin not making things easy. Stewart claimed second ahead Machin, and also set a new lap record in the process. The meeting final once more seen a good race – a race with almost 2 races within it, as 2 groups of drivers battled it out throughout the race. Further back, Charlie Henry, Ryan Muirhead, Connor Jones and Kai McNulty all exchanged regular paintwork with Henry sticking in a few bigger hits along the way, whilst up front, the leaders did similar. It was Stewart that would come away victorious though, with Machin and Gary Nicholls completing the top 3.
The National Hot Rods competed in R3 of their World Qualifying Series, and it was pleasing to see a few more cars out – Barry Stephen made a return to action, whilst Chevy Mills made his debut in the formula. Gordon Alexander also made an outing having missed out last weekend. Heat 1 seen Marc Spence lead the way in the early stages, though was caught by Ross McWilliam, with the pair tangling at the end of the home straight – this seen Spence into the wall and out of contention. Ian Donaldson had engine issues midway through the race, and also pulled off into retirement. McWilliam would go on to take the win ahead of Alexander and Mills. Gordon Alexander went onto claim the next two races, though Chevy Mills was showing good pace and was difficult to catch. In the final, McWilliam kept Alexander honest – keeping pressure on throughout, though Alexander looked to have it covered.
The Stock Rods have had a busy month or so recently, and as a result, there were a few drivers missing – though Kevin Stewart did make his debut in the class. Stewart had a few teething issues having never sat in the car previously, and took a lot away with him that he will learn from for future events. Keiron McKinnon took his first win in the formula in the opening heat, whilst Lee McGill took the win in heat 2, and visiting driver Charlie Woodcock claimed the victory in the meeting final after a stewards review seen McGill demoted for a jump start on a restart.
The ProStocks were once more entertaining on track, with plenty of talking points, pushing, spinning and good close racing! Heat 2 was arguably the race of the night with Lewis Gilchrist and Paul Barron racing excellently throughout, with Barron moving ahead midway through, before Gilchrist reclaimed the lead on the last corner of the race to take the win! Ryan Martin would be awarded victory in the opening heat, with Rachel Kidd claiming the win in the meeting final ahead of Lee Kopacz and Ian Christie.
The 2.0 Hot Rods welcomed William Hardie back to the track in the ex Kerr Paterson car. Mark Dews was in impressive form though in the ex Keith Brown motor, and raced to victory in both the heats, returning to red grade for the meeting final. Olivia Krzyzanowska had a strong meeting in the formula, and is showing good pace as she gains valuable track experience. The meeting final it looked like Dews had the pace to succeed once more, but whilst challenging the 899 car for the lead, this allowed William Hardie to close in. The three cars were soon in close contention and a coming together between all three, seen Charlie Hardie take full advantage and moved through into the lead to take the win!
